I HATED having to play through the arcade game twice to get the Nintendo coin. Say what you will about DK64 but my memories of it are very rose tinted except for that one part. It wouldn't have so bad if not for the fact that they only gave you one life. I wish they woukd put it on NSO because being able to rewind and use save states for that part would make it a lot more tolerable.

I was 10 when it came out. I rented it at blockbuster for two consecutive weeks, got all the way up to the castle world, but then when I got the game for Xmas, I think that was one of the first games that truly felt taxing on a replay. But at least I got that expansion card from it for Perfect Dark months later.
I replayed DK64 within the last year. It is a pretty good 3D platformer but Rare fell a bit too far into a formula for DK. Banjo-Kazooie had their standardized challenges like jinjos and witch switches, but that game (and Banjo-Tooie) had much more variety within each level.

DK64 is more or less the same ten challenges in every level, rinse and repeat but with a different texture and background music. A good game but definitely a step back.

I'm not sure if this is has been mentioned yet but
the ending to Donkey Kong Bananza has leaked on youtube and K. Rool is the final boss.
I seriously wasn't expecting that
I’m more surprised by the fact that’s it’s a riff on
Malenia, Goddess of Rot from Elden Ring

EDIT: I never finished DK64 because I could never beat the original arcade game a second time. That really should not have been mandatory.

The reviews all seem great. So tell me why that is a bad thing and how Nintendo is now doomed.
Reviews for highly hyped games are usually pointless. Most are either fanboys or corporate cock suckers. Doesn't help that reviewers that don't play ball get blacklisted so their reviews comes after the hype did most of the work. The exception is when the game is so atrocious, the hype turns into anti hype.

Yeah whatever so is it good or bad? Reviews look pretty good right now.

You comparing a Call of Duty review to Donkey Kong Bananza?

You know it's really interesting, ever since Nintendo replaced Iwata with Furakawa they've been acting very similarly to all the big established german companies I've worked for. Belligerent unfriendly arrogance towards both the customers and workers backed by worse and worse products. Makes sense because Furakawa worked for Nintendo Germany as a finance guy before he got promoted.
Replaced? Iwata died dude….. 🤔

Never forget IGN's 8.8 for Twilight Princess. The great irony is in hindsight how the Zelda fanbase views the game in the grand picture of the franchise.

Very, very well

Iwata died, he wasn’t replaced. And from what we know, Furakawa was the the dude Iwata would’ve wanted.

And yeah, after the U. I’d focus on making money as well.

Nothing has said Nintendo is bad for the workers either. They still seem to be given as much time or freedom as they want

I will always vouch for DK64 in that I think its a great game if you play for the minimum amount of golden bananas needed to reach K. Rool but cutting down on the minigame barrels to avoid repeats and knowing when to stop only would've benefitted the game.

Sank another two hours into DK. Upping my strength REALLY makes it much more easier to bash stuff. The constant smashing of rocks still has to grow on me but after prioritizing power upgrades (and getting the 'Bananza mode') it's a bit more fun. I'm still not in love with it though.

My kid is completely over it. He liked it at first but got bored. The game is either mindlessly smash things in a sandbox environment to grind collectables or OMG THERE'S SUDDENLY AN AVALANCHE OF SPIKES, GET GUD QUICK.
Doesn't even wanna try assist mode, he just wants to switch to Mario Kart World (save me, I am forced to play Mario Kart World so often).
My kid is pretty young but he can still play the Yoshi games, M64 and Mario Kart pretty well-- I wouldn't recommend this game for little kids. It doesn't really gradually 'train' you to get better. You just jump in and it's either mind numbingly easy or suddenly there's a bunch of spikes and you're losing gold.

BUT to be honest, I didn't get this game for my kid, I got it because I'm a DK simp but I'm hoping it's gonna get... cooler?

I am also liking DK's new design less and less. It looks a bit Tumblr-y the more I look at it.

DEFINITELY not worth the 70+ USD.
Nah I’m im the same boat as you here. It’s not scratching a 3D platformer itch for me and the camera issues remind me of the PS1 days
I am not getting ANY 3D platforming satisfaction. The most platforming is climbing and occasionally jumping from said climbs. Then smash smash smash smash,

Edit:
Sort of a cheat-- if you go to Thorny Hill Speed Surf (Hilltop Layer Challenge Coarse 2) you can easily just farm medals by replaying it over and over. It's a really fast level. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo patched this later.

Next month is the upgraded Kirby and The Forgotten Lands, which he may like better if you are looking to fill the 3D platformer niche. Out of all the upgrades, it may be the only rerelease that has enough extra to warrant getting it on Switch 2.
