The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

For anyone who isn't keeping up with the joy of linux audio, pipewire/pipewire-pulse/pipewire-alsa is the current thing (pipewire-pulse and pipewire-alsa are wrappers for the old API's). You'll want to install all three of these to have working audio in Arch, although you can probably use pulse or alsa if you really want to.
also might be worth checking whats up in pavucontrol if it's available on your system, it should work with pipewire-pulse
has solved many issues for me

It's not as perfect as it once was, but I remember using Mac OS X based themes with Enlightenment WM back in the mid 2000s. Was sick AF. Really the main thing missing was global menu bars.

Something which later received more support... before the Gnome cunts sabotaged it by moving towards Wayland and implementing global menus only through their own, proprietary, Wayland protocol.

Linux Mint
Thank you sir.

If you asked this because you've been told by your boss that the distro needs corporate backing, OpenSUSE is better than Ubuntu, but update times will be slow if you live in America. Otherwise, corporate backing is not actually a benefit, and any distro can do what you're asking for, and start using Libreoffice before switching to Linux to make the transition easier.
I get your point but I choose OnlyOffice due to similarity in visuals to MS Office.
Linux Mint so far seems adequate to things that are mostly done on PC's in my working space. Had a little hurdle with connection with NAS and BetterBird that didn't liked to attach files from remote desktop but I overcome that.

If someone could tell me a good ersatz for Adobe Reader Pro to edit .pdf files that would be great. I found Master PDF Editor 5 which does the work but asks 50 EUR for deleting watermark in edited files. I was wondering is there any free app solution for this.

It appears wayland was added as a dependency to the ebuild for libreoffice-25.2.5.2[gtk3]:
25.2.4.3-r1:
gtk3? (
app-accessibility/at-spi2-core:2
dev-libs/glib:2
gnome-base/dconf
media-libs/mesa[egl(+)]
x11-libs/gtk+:3[X]
25.2.5.2:
gtk3? (
app-accessibility/at-spi2-core:2
dev-libs/glib:2
gnome-base/dconf
media-libs/mesa[egl(+)]
x11-libs/gtk+:3[wayland,X]
And same for gtk4 flag. I am still confused. There is no mention of wayland dependency in announcement post for this version on libreoffice blog. Maybe there is something wrong with ebuild?

Looks like the ABI has some Wayland specific stuff: https://bugs.gentoo.org/958072

Commit: https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=2ec679b08be0ab1c0d131a7fabe63c609a93f08a

My system has Wayland libs because every year or so I try Hyprland again and see what's still broken, so I don't often notice Wayland stuff being pulled in.

Could be the package maintainer playing fuck-fuck games to boost the idea that wayland is the future.
Looks like the ABI has some Wayland specific stuff:
Regardless of any specific stuff, the Gentoo office project dev asturm (Andreas Sturmlechner) types like a passive-aggressive, bitch-made hetroflexible. His post history also appears to mark him as a wayland shrill (post search archive).
(First pic deliberately not a thumbnail, otherwise it blurs too badly)

(see the note from the janny).
Fortunately the other maint is in the hard sciences as a physicist (Huttel) and seems not retarded.

BTW, you got your ass handed to you in the overlays by the Romanian anime profile I posted about earlier. Get fucked because the entire point of Gentoo is about choice.

I have heard good things about StirlingPDF but it might be a bit heavier (although compared to Adobe.. maybe not) than what you are after.

Such degeneracy. Here's to hoping that this is the worst of the brainrot in the gentoo project.

Arch and it's derivatives are for people who's hobby is using Linux.

It literally serves to fill the same spot as gaming does for other people. Nothing wrong with that, but it really irks me whenever they it gets mentioned as a recommendation for people who are just trying to get away from Windows.
I've never understood this sentiment. Just because the steps to do something are listed on the Arch Wiki doesn't mean you have to do it. There are better distros if your hobby is non-stop modification of your system. NixOS, Guix, Gentoo etc. My Arch-based setup (Artix btw) last saw a tweak more than two months ago.

You will enjoy the Future Of The Linux Desktop™️. Nerd herd mentality is something else.

This is exactly the sort of fragmentary bullshit people have been warning wayland idiots about for years. GTK has non-"standard" extensions to the wayland core protocol that other libraries don't implement, so it's only a matter of time before this shit breaks something important.

And it's not just GTK, it's also Qt, and also every WM and DE. So even if you want to make your own environment with something based on wlroots (as it's most popular), you will need to download additional packages for GTK, Qt, KDE (because of course it's separate) and whatever else protocol extensions you need. Almost like leaving all decisions to the implementations without standardizing an interface doesn't create a cohesive envirnoment.

I guess the problem is that qt and GTK are dropping support for X. But how many app developers are actually adopting the new versions of qt and GTK?
