At this point it is unavoidable. A really poignant point I've heard be made is that troon juice is to FOSS what crack is to black neighborhoods, and yeah, it has had pretty much the same effect of lowering the quality of life for everyone involved by introducing malignant wastes of skin that are entirely dependent on dangerous substances (read: crack and being a pest to every living thing respectively) into the picture. I guess you can argue that some crackheads aren't as bad as others since they also work a 9-5 at Denny's between banging rocks (i.e. Francis Rowe of Libreboot, still develops the #1 way to rid youreself of Intel / glownigger spyware), but at the end of the day, a crackhead is still a crackhead, and the entire neigbhorhood would benefit from not having them around.

This is also why people give a pass to the GrapheneOS dev, especially when he hasn't shoved personal politics into the project aside from the politics of privacy that's a core tenet the project.

The culture died but some of the same people adopted/created the new culture. There's no shortage of millennial cybersecurity "professionals" who hated Bush, the Patriot Act, and would shout "Hack the planet" who would later wholly support Obama despite the surveillance apparatus continuing to spread unabated. They're the same people obsessing over Trump and acting as if the US is less free than Europe in terms of free speech(by the government) while doing everything they can to silence people they mildly disagree with. Some of the private groups are just full of low quality, immature political memes about trump instead of, you know, cyber security or open source projects.

The industry is miserable now because these faggots will black ball you if they discover you have different politics. There are some prominent people at DefCon that are like this and they actively keep talented people out of the "scene". Some of these people act lolcowish like Drew and Hector Martin but are so miserable they don't meet the lolcow definition.

I'm having trouble finding a good way to look at the package history. Anyone have a link to the .deb file/version right before they started chucking fortunes they didn't like, to archive and preserve?

The Debian package is ultimately built from the open-source repo, which is maintained here:
It has everything, including jokes removed by some distros.

The Debian offensive fortunes package page is here:
There is no recent activity since it's removed, but you can browse changelogs, etc.

How much of the FOSS stuff is due to corporations and governments wanting to control those pesky open source projects?
I have to imagine if I'm big company inc or the federal bureau of being an annoying nigger, having dependencies on open source projects could be seen as a potential issue.
Actually, just in typing this out, I've convinced myself that that's 99% of the reason.

A small tangent on the fortunes topic, I came across this project, called fortune-kind:

It is the same as fortune, but Rewritten in Rust™ and made "kind" by trimming the set of fortunes. There is a use case for curated fortunes; not everyone has a taste for dark humor. But does it need to be a new project rather than an option on the existing one?

The author is a Danish troon "Christina Sørensen":

I'd say it is in equal parts individual narcissism and the influence of malign (read: corporate or governmental) entities. Not to repeat myself: but the issue is that these companies actively empower people that are natural narcissists to serve as their shabbos goyim, towing lines that are beneficial to those seeking control, the most obvious and omnipresent of which is the infamous Code of Conduct; literally nothing more than a tool used to suppress divergent thought and enforce tribe mentalities. It stops the *F* part of FOSS dead in its tracks by culling open discussion if it involves "unsafe" or whatever other buzzword you want to use, topics. Typical examples of "people" that support these sorts of mechanisms include the ogre Ariadne and other safety trannies that gain personal satisfaction through the influence they exert on others. Transsexuality is to humanity what aposematism is to animals; a clear-as-day sign that the tranny is a cancer, and nothing more. Otherwise, you can find the same sorts of people working in corprate roles that involve snitching on / controlling others, but that are also useless enough to where they can't really cause too much damage to the host company if they grow too big for their britches, a good example being the fetid sore that is HR.
