A life sentence also holds out hope that the truly innocent may one day be able to prove their innocence to exonerate themselves. Once you kill them that isn't possible. We know now that we've executed a ton of innocent people for crimes they didn't commit. Statistically that means that right now innocent men are sitting on death row. It's hard to imagine a worse fate and that is why I oppose the death penalty.
