Artcow Ken Penders - Former Archie Sonic Comic Writer/Artist

Because Geoff was Penders self insert (yes really) whom he wanted to have bang Sally for several issues, but after his ass was booted they did try to show Geoff in a somewhat sympathetic light. How he was a war orphan, how he learned about magic thanks to Nagus who also manipulated him, and the final issue was how he was ready to turn on Ixis only to get his body taken over.
The whole self insert thing was creepy, isnt there a tweet of Penders going all "hehehe Geoff fucked Sally way before Sonic did hyuck hyuck"

I still cant believe this is happening in a comic series about Sonic the goddamn hedgehog

SEGA should have just copied Dallas and retconned the entire Archie comic series, claiming it was just a bad dream

From what I remember, Ken absolutely hated Sally. He spent half his tenure trying to kill her off in increasingly dumb ways, the only reason he ever tried to pair her up with his OC was because he wanted to dab on Sonic.

I don’t even know why he wanted to write for a Sonic comic in the first place. A weird obsessive.

Also, the page where Mina gets shot. Like I said, this was later retconned that she was just grazed, in the back!
Shame she didn't stay dead and instead became a character no-one knows what to do with, and then Flynn repurposed her to be a nuisance. Also, Fang can't use guns, but he can casually murder his family off-screen.

A cockney hedgehog.
Who was also a parody of King Arthur plus a Sonic stand-in, one who marries a female Echidna made by Penders, kek.

He was also Amy's cousin,
Which means that Amy's attraction to Sonic is weird, at least.
Fortunately, she gets no game in the entirety of the Archie run.
I like how this comic is a case study of everything wrong with American comics. All of it.

I think Geoff should have been quietly forgotten about rather than trying to repurpose him by making him lol-evil instead of incompetent, I wasn't fully okay with this plot-twist, but I feel a bit of pity towards that glorified Pepe Le Pew guy.

Tot he point he almost had her offed for good in what was meant to be the end of the comic, lol. Oh, and he made a male heir to the throne to permanently reduce her reason of existence to redundancy.

Fucking echidnas. Ken didn’t write Sonic comics, he infested them. Every time you open an issue, it’s like, “Here’s Sonic, here’s Tails, and oh, here’s twelve new echidnas named Krevlax and Blortimus with tragic back stories and psychic powers." The man woke up every day and said, “How can I take this comic about a fast blue rat and backdoor my OCs like a Trojan horse full of red dreadlocked dipshits?"

He basically this was his idea for a story that he wanted to make happen, but never did.

Ye, I won't lie I kinda did like the girl, but they really didn't know what to do with her. First she was a Sonic fangirl, then a mean bitch to Nicole, and then well...yea huge pile of nothing. Man, don't remind me of that shit.

It's still hilarious how, out of all these echidnas he pumped out, only three got staying power because they actually stuck out and were interesting. Oh and let's not forget those ants that helped the echidnas, could breath fire, and one of 'em was named Semper Fi.

Mina never died. It was simply a cheap attempt at relationshit drama aka the usual for archie sonic. Most websites reuploading the scans forgot to include the last page and that ended up with people thinking she had actually died and then was brought back later, which wasn't the case. The issue actually ends with Mina being fine at the hospital accepting she's never gonna tap that hedgehog dick thus ending the Mina/Sally love triangle bullshit for good.

Fucking Penders got me reading Sonic the Hedgehog comic books just because i'm intrigued by the wtfness of it all.

I have to give it to him, he knows how to get me interested. I ended up reading the scans of Lara Su Chronicles because it was so damn bizarre i had to know what the hell he was trying to say.

Wasn't the only reason he took the job because his son was a huge Sonic fan and that no one else knew what Sonic was?
Imagine being Penders' kid. Your dad gets a gig writing for Sonic the Hedgehog, you're psyched, you open the comic and there's thirty new echidnas with names like Lorbo the Wise and Crotchblade. I hope he got bullied at school over this.

I dunno about that part, I do recall something of him wanting to use the Archie Sonic comic to get his own shit published.

Huh, I legit only saw one site that had this scan and I guess I forgot about it and my brain made me think they retconned her death. Even so, it still felt cheap how can someone after clearly being shot in the back with a revolver like that, if nothing else the girl should have been paralyzed like Barbara Gordon was.

Sorry for the double post, but this page always makes me laugh how one guy getting grazed and the mobians suddenly go "OMG! THIS WAR IS CERIAL GUYZ!!"

Bro they didn’t even have to retcon this. Sonic discovers his uncle built the Holocaust machine but by accident and for science. Then imagine his dad's like, “We saved this mustache guy from death because he liked chili dogs too. Sorry, son, we thought we were helping." Boomer-ass storyline.

I’m still bewildered by the whole Overlander thing. What happened to them after the big war? As far as I can tell, a bunch of them pulled an Elon Musk and jettisoned themselves into space. But then it’s heavily implied that Robotnik and King Acorn ethnic cleansed the rest of them?

They try to square it by having this plot about the refugees living in Station Square who are like the Ned Flanders of Overlanders. (This was the canonical moment a lot of longtime readers dipped out.)

After losing the sword duel, some Overlanders did grav rocket ship and yeeted themselves into the stars. The ones that remained, I think was implied King Acorn wanted them locked away in POW camps and Robotnik went "nah, I got this sir" and just merked some by using the warlords whom he used in the retcon to start the Mobian v Human conflict (ye, in the retcon both kids were captured by warlords that worked with Robotnik and both got killed and thus each side was played against the other)

Ye, this was their attempt to write in Station Square from the games into the comic world, how its a huge ass city that exists inside a volcano, who somehow have an artificial sky and sun.

The ones from Station Square are regular humans who survived the apocalypse that created the Mobians and Overlander mutants. The latter got stuck in isolated cities or left to space to look for habitable planets and came back after finding none. Then these integrated with the humans from SS and other places, or were turned into robots by Eggman and later killed by nukes, then forgotten about.
Shame the space bits of the setting are underdeveloped, despite the presence of satellites and such.

It’s funny, I was actually a pretty loyal reader of Archie Sonic somewhere around issue 18 to like, 150. They were always trying to crowbar in product tie-ins, but it kind of worked? Not because it made sense, but because the comic had this sense of slapstick comedy. Tails goes on a solo mission in a submarine armed with a giant mechanical drill and then it’s never mentioned again. That's just Tuesday in Mobius:

PIECE OF SHIT! WHY ARE THERE SO MANY RED FURRY DICKHEADS IN THIS THING?

"Surprise, here is Fistor the Wise, he’s the sacred guardian of the Clit Emerald.”

But anyway...,as Tired Cat said, suddenly everything had to be deadly serious. And they had to cram in every new character from Adventure: Tikal, Chaos, the entire city.

You just called forth memories of an ancient lolcow for me, and I'd like to share it.

One person who genuinely had a dislike for what Penders did with Sally, and rather legitimately so, was David Gonterman, a legacy lolcow from the old web 1.0 days who we now remember pretty fondly because he eventually at least partly got in on the joke. Gonterman very fervidly discussed in forum posts during this era that Penders really did not have any care whatsoever for the character, and I remember inveterate shitposters noting at the time that even a dedicated autist like Daveykins was able to pick up on Penders' equally autistic dislike of a character from the IP.

I do remember that in one post, he basically declared that Penders' dislike was due to her being competition for his own terrible female characters, which seemed oddly prescient to me. I also remember that Gonterman did one of his own terrible comics where he tried to do a standalone comic covering her after Penders'd killed her off that was very cringe and featured Gonterman's textbook awful art, but also had this oddly emotional core where you could tell some part of him really felt that strongly that she'd been done dirty. It's the kind of thing that you only see from someone with no volume control that genuinely cares that much and has no idea how to handle it.

Was it the one where they go between different timelines, where Sally is dead or alive and only Sonic seems to catch on to this?

I'll give the comics props, Tikal did become a re-occuring character in a few issues which was actually nice. Though, personally to me it gotten mo hilarious when they tried crowbar in SA2 or even Shadows game.

Tikal was much better than that Microsoft Clippy-ass bitch Omochao. And her theme song goes hard.
