Did you watch the video? It isn't very long.

The dude doesn't seem to be promoting the sugar diet, only saying it's becoming popular and talking about how protein restriction generally seems to increase a hormone that boosts metabolism and causes weight loss (referencing a couple papers that have been published recently).
He even describes the sugar diet as "sub-optimal" and "nutrient poor" and I the end explicitly says he doesn't recommend protein restricted diets because there's not enough evidence of their long term safety.

In his intro video, and other videos it looks like he tends to actually eat low carb or at least lower carb, in his day to day, apparently to treat some pre-existing health issue, but does experiments outside of that as content for his channel or to replicate results from published studies like he did here.

It is somewhat interesting, but I doubt actually practical even if it wasn't sugar based which is going to cause cavities and god knows what else. Most people would do best by just focusing on whole foods and cutting out the junk from their diet and making sure the protein they're getting is high quality instead of hyper focusing on one obscure mechanism which may have longer term side effects from inadequate protein intake.

Look at people like Durian Rider for example. Fruitarian and sure he's not fat but he looks malnourished and scrawny as fuck.
