Containment Random Thoughts & Questions

Didn't they have a star wars cartoon at some point?
There were the old Droids and Ewoks series back in the day and the legendary Holiday Special has an animated bit.
In the modern era there's been two The Clone Wars series, a 2d animated one by that guy who made Samurai Jack and a CG one that ran for a while.

Obviously this is all very important and without this knowledge this conversation would be worthless.

Chris made a passing mention of darth vader at one point, so he's at least familiar with the series. I don't think he's a massive fan, though. He's likely watched most of it through the prism of lego and family guy.

I knew it.

Considering the type of person who would shops at Spencer's, I think he'd fit right in.

Well, in fairness, the people who shop at Spencer's seem to be mall rats, stoners, vaguely unemployed 20-somethings and wanna-be frat boys... so at least they have better social skills than Chris. I mean, they may be obnoxious as hell, but they can still hang out with their own kind, get dumb ass tribal tattoos, and go "bro," or something.

Chris wouldn't say no if someone bought him some of that stuff. But I don't think he'd spend the cash on it, when he can get ten pairs of his mom jeans from goodwill for the same price and have some extra cash left over for a few :qsand:s.

So... what you're saying is we should buy Chris a new wardrobe? I mean, granted its about on par with the Brazilian government painting the favelas bright colours for the tourists, but at least it will make him more presentable. Or less of an eyesore. Honestly, I'd spend the money on that before I'd buy him Legos (though in truth I'd just as soon keep my money and spend it on myself ).

See, I was asking the same thing.

It is weird, even for Chris, no?

Also, haha, I love "shaved orangutan."

As do I!

I think it was probably just that Harry Potter started getting popular with the kids in general. Everywhere Chris turned, everyone was talking about Harry Potter, not his beloved Sonic. Star Wars is an older series, so it didn't just pop up at him.

Well, I know we've already said Chris is inconsistent, but I'm pretty sure the Sonic fad was on the way out by then. Granted, they still make games and merchandise (I saw a little kid in a Sonic shirt yesterday in fact) but I'm pretty sure that it was past the height of its popularity by the time Harry Potter came out. Moreover, Chris tends to like obscure stuff. I'm sure nobody else in his class ever expressed an interest in the American Rabbit, but that doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm not sure what point I'm trying to make here... just weird.

I do think its funny that he was so anti-Potter though. I mean, I know, his weird tribalism and all, but if he actually got into the fandom, there's all sorts of merchandise he could have latched onto to express his identity. I could easily see him wearing a Gryffondor scarf or something. Of course, on the other hand, Chris does seem to have an aversion to books so perhaps that scared him off (and yes, I'm only being half serious here, not :alog:).

There were the old Droids and Ewoks series back in the day and the legendary Holiday Special has an animated bit

Yeah, that was my first thought, and I can remember SyFy Channel airing both Droids and Ewoks waaay back in the day. Before they rebranded themselves SyFy, in fact, and when they still played sci-fi movies instead of wrestling and Sharknado part 15... Anyway, I doubt Chris would have watched those but I suppose its possible. The infamous Holiday Special not so much. Hell, I can remember growing up wanting to see it so bad, even searching around the net for it back in the early days of Compuserve and AOL. Needless to say, I was very disappointed when I finally did find a badly ripped copy.. :heart-empty:

In the modern era there's been two The Clone Wars series, a 2d animated one by that guy who made Samurai Jack and a CG one that ran for a while.

That I didn't think of, probably because I didn't watch those (didn't even know there was a traditionally animated one by the guy who made Samurai Jack! I just know of the existence of the CG one. Kind of curious to see the other one now, if only because I liked Samurai Jack back in the day). I could definitely see Chris watching Cartoon Network (in fact, we KNOW he watches Family Guy and stuff, right?), and it probably would appeal to him.

Obviously this is all very important and without this knowledge this conversation would be worthless.

Obviously.

Maybe I've been too selective, but Chris has mad gorilla arms.

Also, on the same subject (and the reason why I made a post at all), how come Chris' sex drive only seemed to kick in when he got obsessed with girls at 21? I mean, puberty hits earlier than that, and while he was "naive" on the subject of romance until he hit that age the need for sex seemed to come at the exact same moment? That's not normal, right?

For me, at least, while I was aware of the subject, it wasn't very real at first. It was when I became aware of the existence of pornography that set everything off for me. Once I learned that fucking wasn't just this vague, theoretical idea out in the distance, I got a lot more interested in the subject. Like all of a sudden. So I can see that happening for Chris.

Heh, he's just a late bloomer.

I assume it was there, but since he wasn't interested in dating, it didn't really manifest itself in any particularly public way.

You also have to keep in mind that the view of Chris post-troll discovery is really different than the view of Chris pre-troll discovery. We mostly only know about stuff that Chris brought up at one time or another. Except for his discovery of masturbation and mentioning his attraction to some of his gal-pals, he hasn't talked about it. Doesn't mean it didn't happen to a certain degree.

Oh, I'm sure there are women who are into Legos. After all, there are adult hobbyists, and some of them make pretty impressive stuff out of them too. Of course, Chris doesn't put that much effort or originality into his Lego projects, let alone basic hygiene or interacting with people. So while I'm sure there are some adult women who consider themselves Lego enthusiasts (or at the very least wouldn't be repelled by a man who had that as a hobby) I doubt they are going to be enamoured with an overweight, greasy 30 something crossdresser who still lives at home with his mother and barely interacts with other human beings. Its a pity too because if he got out an started mingling with other hobbyists or collectors, it would probably do Chris a world of good. He'd make friends and get to express himself in a creative fashion. Unfortunately, it ain't gonna happen...

I would imagine that adult female LEGO hobbyists look exactly like Chris. Realistically people who devote large amounts of time to hobbies are not normal people. They don't socialize regularly and probably resent or neglect their physical appearance. Chris will find people like him, mostly males, if he decides to explore the adult LEGO hobbyist community. The chances of him meeting a girl who he can bond over a shared love of plastic bricks are the same as him winning the lottery. This theoretical girlfriend would also very likely be pretty fucking ugly.

That's kind of a stereotype there. I'll grant that you probably have far more men to women in that hobby, and you may have socially awkward people, but I think most hobbyists are just like any other people. Most, not all. If anything, having a hobby theoretically should increase social interaction, even if it is with a very, very narrow scope of people. I suspect most of Lego hobbyists would probably be at least average looking people; maybe not supermodels, but no worse than anyone else you'd run into on the streets. Mind you, I have no real experience with Lego hobbyists, and I'm only talking about people who do it as a normal past time. People who are obsessive are always going to skew things a little bit, and they exist in every niche.

Yeah I'm stereotyping a bit, but realistically Kengle's fantasy of Chris finding a sweetheart at the LEGO con is bullshit. Chris is already socially broken beyond repair, it's just a lost cause to even think about a girlfriend for him. He's terminally single.

This, but at the very least, Kengle's suggestion is way in the wrong direction for Chris. Just doing the opposite of what kengle suggests should get chris a better satisfaction of his fantasy, if not better.

Okay, that much I will agree with. I doubt there is much Chris could legitimately do to attract a girlfriend. He'd at least help himself by cleaning up, getting a normal human wardrobe, and developing some sort of social skills. Granted, he's never going to hook up with a "hot chick," but at least he'd be... well still Chris, but he might be able to find a woman like Barb (old, overweight, and desperate for any human affection).

Then maybe the best attraction locations for Chris would be homeless shelters...

Okay, so new question. We all know Chris is really into Pokemon, or at least used to be. So here's something that I've occasionally wasted time thinking about. We Chris trying to fill CWCville with various Pokemon "types"? I mean, okay, Sonichu is the original, and he's the electric hedgehog Pokemon, but by the time he introduced Rosechu and the Chaotic Combo he had Wild (grass type), Bubbles (water type), Punchy (fighting type), etc. Do you think he intended to finish the trend and fill CWCville with a great amount of unoriginal palette swaps? And if so, what happened? Did he get bored? Lazy? Crash into slumber? Yeah, these are the kind of dumb things I think about when I get bored...
