Warhammer 40k

GW is still a supremely greedy and retarded company with the woke pandering or not, and i doubt anything woke will drive out people faster than them being incompetent. Which is the most likely end for them unless the multimedia money combined with the woke grift buys is enough to keep their retarded market afloat
The problem is woke people hire other woke people who are all monumentally incompetent. And also I have no understanding of business. And then they just say, let's just raise prices. Because they weren't companies like they won blue cities.

It's not entirely that simple. As said, GW would be fucking our wallets with a red hot poker even if they were staffed by /pol/tards.

Looking at the latest painting article on the community website and it feels like GW is trying to bait me hard.

Quick run down. The community team did a "quick fire painting challenge" and the results were mixed to be kind. Making painting more accessible is good and the painting guides on their YouTube channel do that superbly but they need to stop with stuff like this

The last picture is the worst offender imo. But throughout the article mold lines are visible and little care was taken when creating what scenic basing there was in some cases. I only got about halfway through the article before making this post and noticed they painted grav tanks as well but I've tortured you all enough.

Maybe im retarded but seeing anything Custodes that isnt gold primer + reikland fleshshade looks good to me. Caveat being good, not great

They're called Igneans after the volcanic rocks and are looked down upon by everyone else who lives there.
Nocturne has its own somalis?

I never played a tabletop game and the sperg inside me has been infatuated with 40k ever since watching those Astartes videos.

Someone suggested I can use this 'game' called Tabletop Simulator to break into 40k n' learn the basics before committing.

Is this the way, or are there other suggestions to get started? I don't know any turbonerds irl who are into this sorta shit so I'm flyin solo.
Tabletop simulator is great, and its got huge advantages. It's great at tracking auras and weapon ranges, for example.

As for being alone, don't be so sure. I live in the middle of nowhere didn't think I'd find anyone to play with until I did. Turbospergs who play this game tend to be hidden, inside their houses.

With their return to 40k in 7th edition GW actually included “Shield Hosts” basically subfactions the custodes had as there were also different painted ones in Horus heresy

Sure but you've also done a decent paintjob. I don't think the issue was that someone painted custodes in black, it's that they look like shit. It's a halfassed drybrush job, didn't even paint the ropes right, the fucking random dots on the eyes, the shitty brush strokes visible on the blades. This is fucking awful.

They did another painting article a couple weeks ago for custodes with an entry from some guy who runs a wargaming magazine or something in Germany, and it was even worse. Showcasing good paintjobs is fine, showcasing shit paintjobs unless it's showcasing what kids have been doing, is fucking awful.

Kinda insane how a few small details can completely derail a decent paint job. The armor itself looks good, but the ropes and eyes are just so dogshit.

Honestly made me feel better about my dogshit paintjobs (I've only been painting on and off since I started the hobby in 2022) because goddammit if those are good enough for Warhammer community then mine are good enough for the table with the lads
Any paint on models is good enough for the table, and with the tutorials that exist these days anyone even trying is way ahead of where most of the community would have been just a decade ago.

Hell, maybe this is someone on the warcom team being smart. Posting articles with normal paintjobs so people can see something besides all of the shit that takes 50 hours for a single basic infantry guy on instagram. But also throwing in the occasional completely shit paintjob just to reassure people there's always someone worse. But I'd still say the models people post in this thread are better overall than these posts from warcom.

Unless it's complete slop, chances are it's just fine for the tabletop, especially if you follow what I call the "2 foot test". If you look about 1-2 feet away, and it doesn't look bad, it's tabletop good.

Oh I know, but brainworms be brainworms and sometimes it make me feel pretty retarded, its fun though, haven't painted a Warhammer model since like 2023 but Buying a little box of Historicals and batch painting a little merc crew tickles my tism in the right ways
