Warhammer 40k

somehow that's supposed to be a woman. nevermind that admech with that much augmentation already would have fucked up skin that's super pale and sickly looking, and not be heavily laden with functioning melanin
This is in general such an ass cinematic.

Hard to follow, contrived to hell and very weightless.

speak for yourself, there are women that fuck Ethan Ralph.

Also new Jumpack chaplain. Ive been avoiding painting Lemartes because I hate his stupid open skull mouth, looks like this fella is gonna get pieced out. Looks sick as fuck tho tbqhfamalam.
Sick model, cool pose.

I do wonder if the Blood Angels get a unique one later on or not but chances close to if not zero

Absolutely, it's also fucking pointless since we all know wtf admech shit looks like and people want to see gameplay, not dozens of necron warriors all missing at 10 feet because it's the admech trailer and "plot" armor. It'd be stupid nonsense for any faction to just walk away from something like that completely unscathed as a cinematic for an RTS.

The hatred for AoS has a brand and universe is valid.
Having very recently gotten into Total Warhammer (which in hindsight and a hefty amount of mods is 1000% the exact game my 7 year old warhammer fantasy obsessed self fantasised about existing in the late 90s) and thus reconsidering the whole WHFB setting in general, I feel my opinion on AoS is a lot like my opinion on 40k after Jellyman woke up. Its not that it's inherently shit or inferior in and of itself, but its markedly more optimistic vibe clashes strongly with the bleak and hopeless as hell shit I first came to love, and the way it was set up was contrived in a way that will always make it feel off even if I don't particularly dislike much of it.

A perfect encapsulation of this is the Primaris/Stormcast.

Some of my earliest memories of the setting when trawling through dog eared sourcebooks and White Dwarfs was seeing how "the good guys" were seriously fucking outclassed conceptually and visually by their Chaos nigga counterparts. In WHFB your average Chaos Warrior was a 7 foot tall juggernaut in inch thick magic armour and wielding cursed weapons the size of a small tree. Meanwhile your average Empire state trooper was some spindly kraut with a puffy shirt, a modest breastplate, and a reasonably sturdy halberd. The former was backed by four different flavours of nightmarish apocalypse daemons and super hell magic. The latter was backed by somewhat temperamental 16th century firearms and a questionable numerical advantage. Meanwhile in 40k there was a little more parity, as "the good guys" had Spess Mehreens too, but even then Team Chaos had a distinct advantage with all the shit the Loyalist marines got as well as both the aforementioned nightmarish apocalypse daemons and super hell magic backing them up, not to mention a half dozen Daemon Primarchs still very much alive and kicking in the Eye of Terror, while the Loyalists only really held the advantage in logistics, and tech being more or less a wash as both had access to the same or equivalent shit.

In both cases it was clear that "the good guys" were very much the underdogs....even if the actual tabletop meta said otherwise.

Cut to the mid 2010s and all of a sudden this shit is flipped on its head. Sigmar is back and now has the power to mass produce super duper anti-chaos warriors who are all 7 and a half foot tall juggernauts in 1.2 inch thick magic armour and wielding holy weapons the size of a medium tree. Gorillaman woke up and brought along the custodes along with a literal million incorruptible super space marines as well as Cawl and his bucket of super tech, along with pimp slapping a bunch of daemon primarchs and getting the ability to permakill nightmarish apocalypse daemons and super hell magic. Then The Lion showed up with his own new and stupidly OP powers to kerbstomp Angron. Next we will probably get either Dorn or Jaghatai back depending on whether GW wants to try and pander to China enough to chinkwash the Khan.

Obviously I am simplifying here but the general shift in vibe from "barely holding the line against the bad guys" to "actively pushing back and outmatching the bad guys" has been unmistakable and feels like some kind of corporate logic of "good guys are more marketable so make the good guys the bestest and strongestest" being mandated from on high. Again, I get that the lore being churned out is still trying to emphasise that everything is super grim and dark and grimdark, but this kinda falls flat when the spotlight is on how much more badass the good guys are.

At least the Imperial Guard is still this, but in a standard flakvest, flashlight, sorry I mean lasgun, and a bunch of kraks on his belt.

Is there any equivalent in AoS, come to think of it? A lot of attention was on the Stormcast.

its also becasue the fandom doesnt like chaos as much anymore and calls it all chaos wank

Technically even more grimdark in some respects, since atleast the Guard has a solid 50% or more of the Spess Mehreens on their side rather than being up against 100% of them. That being said in this hypothetical they would also be solid bros with the Leagues of Votann, fairly tight with the Eldar, and on decent enough terms with the Tau enough to form a fairly united front against Chaos so it would even out a little.

IIRC the "Cities of Sigmar" faction has all the normie humans now in some vague Empire toned mishmash.

They're the Freeguild, and they're so shit compared to the WHFB state troopers:

Are they going to make the thieving mechanicus and blood ravens black? Lmao

I don’t know what it is exactly but recently I have not liked the way they’ve painted skin, especially light skin.

Primaris and Girlyman's return are fine with me, but then again I'm not an oldhead.

My grievances stem from how stale the setting has gotten. New stories are either boring agenda pushers, or Super Mario bros level narratives about Space Marines fighting each other.

All the flavor has gone too. Everything is too clean, too uniform.

I also completely forgot Ashes of the Imperium came out. Is it worth pirating? Chris Wraught's a pretty good author all things considered.

With the Cities of Sigmar stuff. I think if you filed and cut down the excess and throw the women and nigger heads in the trash and mixed-in some Fantasy bits, you could get some characterful mercs, brigands and so on.

Me and my boys are thinking on getting into Old World and I’m personally putting the pieces together on a Border Prince Bretonnian army.

CMON’s artwork for their A Song of Ice and Fire game has given me a lot of inspiration and the variety of bodies and poses in Cities, as the only faction of “just men at arms” is looking to be a good base for the foreigner mercs supplementing the exiles and some of their hero models are a good base to build upon with knight bits. They got character which is easier to work with in plastic than metal or resin.

The black pope chick and the guy on a ogre by way of ship lookout tower are dumb though, terrible models.

They pushed niggers and other "minorities" into AoS so hard, it's hilarious. Even the "fantasy marines" had a dedicated troon chapter in the lore.

And some retards wonder why nobody actually cares about the setting.
Gaunt face, sunken eyes, can barely speak above a whisper, can’t figure out their genders, don’t care about anything… have these Tetras figured out their powers are the AIDS virus?

I was actually just thinking of using those minis for a border prince army lol.
