OPEC's been struggling to maintain its integrity ever since the USA started exporting. The Saudis have been increasingly desperate to protect their market share in the face of the US exports, and they've been fucking over their fellow OPEC members to do so.
Its not that the US has started exported so much as the US has stopped importing (or more accurately, because we do import a shit ton of oil, domestic production is able to meet domestic demand). The other issue is that now that US isn't importing all the oil it can find, the next biggest customer is China, and China is doing business with EVERYONE, regardless of sanctions. And if you are able to get around International/US sanctions, dodging OPEC export limits is a piece of cake.
For me, I have some big questions.
Is this permanent or temporary? Is this just the UAE dropping out until they raise funds to rebuild what Iran destroyed, maybe with the blessing (or at least understanding) of KSA? The only winning move was not to play. They could have taken the US Aid deal, let the UN dig out and transport their buried Uranium, stopped wasting money on Hezbollah, released their prisoners from the protests, and then doubled down on getting ready for summer water riots. They would have had their ballistic missile and drone stores intact, leadership would still be alive, and the Gulf nations would at very least view Iran as a counter weight to American ambitions.
Now, if you say I can't premetively surrender, the next best way to get the best outcome for Iran is too immediately get a ceasefire and aggree to whatever is needed to get a lasting peace in place. Iran's bargaining position is not stronger after a month of bombing. Summer is coming, and Iran should get whatever it can and try to get ready to retain control of its own populace.
