there can never be anything good for very long. smiling friends is over because whoever the fuck owns cartoon network recognized its popularity and immediately wanted to run it into the ground like they did rick and morty. you saw so many new cartoons from cartoon network in the 90's and early to mid 2000's because the industry was ran differently back then. air a bunch of shit, keep anything that isn't unpopular. the moment that worm turned, it ate itself. you wouldn't get six seasons out of billy and mandy if it had ran today.

and for adult animation? shit, who cares? that "shit, who cares?" attitude was what let it flourish. now it's the same as children's cartoons. keep only the most successful thing, everything else can rot. the state of adult animation wasn't good around the time venture bros was cancelled, but that was the canary in the coal mine. if you're not rick and morty, family guy/king of the hill/american dad reruns, or one of tim and eric's snoozefests then get the fuck OFF of adult swim. throw out a bunch of one season cartoons and hope one of them gets rick and morty popularity. it's like nickelodeon; if you're not spongebob then get out.

Not exclusive to anime but I do see it a lot on anime Twitter. Your interpretation of a character does not supersede or surpass the authors.

Yes there are instances where a character moment or decision from the author is retarded and you are free to ignore it and stick to your head canon.

But treating head canon as gospel truth causes an insane amount of problems and can cause a lot of animosity between authors and their fans.

Dungeon Meshi is a recent example I remember, where Twitterfags started saying that Laos was autistic because of his obsession with monsters and that Marcille was totally gay because she blushes around Falin in the bath. The author came out and outright stated that neither of those things were true and the fanbase tried to crucify them.

The same thing happened with My Hero when the author confirmed that Izuku and Ochako got together in the end. The Bakugo/Izuku shippers who had deluded themselves into believing that it was #goingtohappen lost their goddamn minds.

Just the whole mentality of "This character is so X Coded" needs to fucking die

You mean the animation that came out twenty years ago, in 2006? That is not relevant to the contemporary context that I was referencing in regards to the modern animation industry. This is like rebutting the claim that American animation has gone to shit by bringing up the movie Cars, which was also released in 2006.

How about something that is actually relevant in the current animation industry?
