Angry Joe / Joe Vargas / Jose Antonio Vargas / AngryJoeShow - Streamer, formerly made ANGRY REVIEWS, hates his fans

Oh, that reminds me. If anyone wants to see true cringe and unprofessionalism, just watch pretty much any "interview" he conducted at cons. He fidgets anxiously and barely knows (or remembers) what questions he should ask and it's just awkward. You can tell the people are like WTF.

Him ruining another persons chance to talk to Notch (spoony drama) was a low blow but what did you expect, TWTG do not vet their staff well at all.

That reminds me... what is Joe's relationship with Spoony? I was watching some old Angry Joe videos, and Spoony made a cameo appearance in the Aliens: Colonial Marines one. But I've never heard anyone talk about whether they're friends or whatever.

There apparently wasn't any fallout between them even after the BETRAYAL incident, even though Joe was standing right there.

New I will never understand how TGWTG people ever got so popular.
A lot of these guys were the first ones to put out their sort of content back when youtube was in it's infancy. They got there first and managed to appeal to middle-school kids with their antics, thus establishing themselves as "entertainers". The reviewer pond was still small in those days compared to the ocean it is now.

They used to roleplay together in the same group I believe.

I used to like his reviews. But then his content started to decline when he gave unusual ratings on games that obviously have a reason to be praised or bashed. Now he decides to procrastinate on his videos with an empty promise hanging on it's thread. Good luck becoming an eventual lolcow!

My first impression was that he and his fans deserve each other in a hate-hate relationship. Like a bunch of people here I enjoyed his video game reviews, but have basically stopped even checking his channels because it's all lazy bullshit now with him and 3 other useless lumps sitting around just shooting the shit about a movie (especially the fat one that thinks he's too cool to take his shades off inside). I just get nothing out of it, whereas I actually felt like I got information from his game reviews.

Which is fine, it's not like I'm paying for the content I don't watch, but he obviously can't deal with the reactions (even just the thumb-downs). He also seems to have some hang-up about needing to only review games that are coming out right now, which is odd because I suspect his subs would be happy seeing an actual game review (and not some movie sperging) even if it's a week late.

I remember on a recent video he said something about having a mental disorder that causes problems but I don't remember specifically- might have been diagnosed depression?

Plus there's the crap he pulls with certain companies- Nintendo maybe? He KNOWS that they're going to take down or monetize the videos he makes with their game visuals but he still does it and then makes two or three videos screaming about it and uses it as an excuse to why he can't do anything else, like cover one of three other games that came out. So he'll completely alter footage to the point where it's basically unwatchable so he can put out a video. Then there was the time he couldn't do a game review because his costume didn't arrive on time so instead of doing one "late" he just said 'fuck it'.:story:

So yeah, I think he'll put out some cow content, especially after his 'reboot' this year that completely failed. I think his model is unsustainable. He could cut the fat and go back to basics (I wonder how much he's paying people to sit in a chair and say "un-huh, totally") that got him the audience but I suspect it's easier to just keep doing the low-effort shit he likes and then freaking out when not everyone fellates him over it.

Case in point, I notice he disabled not only comments but also the ratings (thumbs up, down) on his latest game of thrones bullshit- thereby even surpassing totalbiscuit for being butthurt. "*I've decided to disable all comments & ratings on all videos for the next month. I want to see what it does to the viewership & engagement. Thanks for your patience and understanding!**"

(I'm not sure about viewership but I can tell you how shutting down engagement mechanisms will effect engagement!)

I saw a video or two from this guy, and thought his anger was a bit overplayed and his skits unnecessary. He wasn't my favorite in the first place, but it's still sad to see him contracting Spoony Syndrome. No matter how shit his content is, it's still better than no content at all.

On a side note, what is it with YouTubers bitching about money? If they make anything even remotely resembling a sizable amount of money from YouTube, they're easily in the top 0.1%, and they're whining about wanting more?

I saw this thread get created and figured it would get a bunch of "dumb" ratings and get a lock. I'm honestly quite surprised to see it get featured and to find most people agreeing that he's a lolcow.

I've been vaguely aware of this guy for years and I've never liked his content simply because I don't like his style of humour and I found his persona grating, but I certainly never considered him potential lolcow material and reading through this thread hasn't changed my mind.

It's completely up to him what kind of content he wants to put out, and people are free to hit "dislike" or unsubscribe from him if they don't like the direction he's taking. From what I can see, he's responded to criticism from fans in a dickish and untactful way but he's right on the main point, which is that it's his channel and it's up to him what kind of content he wants to create, and if people don't like it they aren't obligated to watch. Contrary to the prevailing consensus for at least the first few pages here, his disgruntled former fans seem like the real lolcows to me.

You sound pretty naive, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt
What Whiny Wetback's doing here is a perfect repeat of the average youtube personality and, really it's ultimately what all youtube personalities become if they don't have the dignity to just call it quits before they reach this phase. But now that we're here, it's too late to turn back.
Joey boy's going down a rabbit hole of tantrums and denial as he tries desperately to redefine his career. But he's just going to become another Doug Walker, just like so many before him, and so many who are yet to come.

Honestly though, what's the implication people are making about how successful youtubers should act? That once they find a niche that makes them popular and builds an audience, that they are obligated to indefinitely continue to produce content that will cater to said audience?

Again, I have no investment in this specific guy either way, but I'm just seeing a sense of entitlement about what content creators should do.

No, you have a very good point. Any popular youtuber is perfectly allowed to set out for new ventures in their medium.
The problem Joe, Doug, and tons of others have, is that they specifically alienate and abandon their fans, the people who made them who they are today. And when that blows up in their face because they're egotistical douchebags they start breaking down and going into denial about that fact that they're cursed to be a children's entertainer forever because they're, in fact, not entertaining doing anything else.

That's fair.

I think that content creators are free to try new things and abandon old ones, and audiences shouldn't act like the creators owe them specific content. I don't think that a content creator expressing this makes them a lolcow. I do agree with you that if a content creator actively abuses the audience that made them successful for no reason, and/or if a creator acts entitled to support from fans no matter what content they put out or how they act, then they could well cross into lolcow territory. I just haven't seen that from this guy yet; people just posted screens of his fans acting like dipshits and him being rude and hostile in response. Not enough for me to say he's totally in the wrong.

I'm completely open to changing my mind about this guy if this turns out to truly be the start of some downward spiral you allude to, but I just think this is currently premature for a cow thread.

Common trend on reviewers now

I used to like some of Fucked-off Fernando's reviews, even the skits (I admit I still find the GTA V one kind of funny) and I did have to admire the clear amount of effort put into them. I never liked the v-logs as it's just Swirling Dervish Santiago yelling, Paedo Del Fox looking creepy and Other Joe, who clearly hangs around Cross Christobel out of pity at this point, trying to add his opinion but getting drowned out.

Lennon lives!

Nah, Manson got bored in jail.
