Games With Really Spergy Fanbases That You Still Enjoy

Avellone is a huge sperg, fuck that guy.

I do get the complaints though. When Bethesda bought Fallout, they essentially Michael Bay'd the franchise. It doesn't take much effort to just ignore games you don't like though.
My problem is just his unending tendency to just go on and fucking on about things he doesn't like in a setting through author avatars. We get it bro you don't like that Fallout isn't just a nuked out hellscape anymore now can we please continue with the DLC or are we gonna stand around and jack Ulysses off some more?

You'd think, but people on the Internet just have to let their outrage be heard. Look at a place like No Mutants Allowed, they've held a grudge against Bethesda for over 10 years. They can't accept the idea that 3 & 4 are a different take on Fallout, they must feel like Todd Howard himself ripped their child from their arms and murdered them.

It's not healthy to hold a grudge for a decade, let alone for something as harmless as a video game.

Shooting Ulysses in his stupid face was legitimately my favorite part of FNV.

Oh, no, there are some people who loathe Fallout 2 because it's not serious enough either. No joke.

My unending rancor with people who want Fallout to be ALL GRIMDARK ALL THE TIME is why I generally dislike Chris Avellone too. Dude got his panties in a huge bunch over any sign of things getting better in the universe to the point he basically spent the entirety of New Vegas' DLCs making his author avatar sperg out about WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN.

Anyhow, I'm just gonna wait for the Autistic ratings and be content that I've said my peace.

Edit: Also, the two Objectively Right paths in New Vegas are NCR and Independant Vegas.
Fallout is a very diverse series. Even within the core cRPG faggot series (1, 2, and New Vegas), there are huge variations between the games. And the complaints about 2's humor have been very consistent from that community. Fallout's humor has always been extremely unique and subtle. The tone is a constant mix of a dark parody of 50's sci-fi, casual "this is how people would react to this situation", political undertones, and just weird shit. Nobody wants "edgy grimdark xd", people just don't want to meet ebin Monty Python Bridgekeepers with OP robes.

>NCR
What a retard.

Fallout is rather divided between Sawyer and Avellone mindsets. I generally think Ulysses is a good idea for a character though just one not expressed very well. Making a character as guarded, verbose, and insecure as that is bound to make people go "wow what a shitty pretentious writer avatar" when there's nobody he can really play off of- which is exactly what happened. Though if you look at how Ulysses is written, he's clearly portrayed as someone who's fucking nuts and desperately wants to be validated through whatever pedantic bullshit he can find.

Your shit-talking of Avellone is a bit undeserved given how much he's done for cRPG's in his prime, he's just a burnt-out grumpy fag now who's tired of his genre getting kicked in the balls. Motherfucker was the main writer of Planescape: Torment- that's hard not to appreciate that.

You can stop sperging up the thread now, Todd. We get it.

What an exceptional individual.

Yea I find it hard to blame Avellone too much since he and his team got treated incredibly poorly by Bethesda. (Twelve month development cycle, refusal to pay bonuses ect) Most of FNV's faults are due to the incredibly short dev cycle they got and the fact that it's better than Fallout 4 with it's three year dev cycle is something that's hard not to admire.

I can absolutely fault him for writing like a bitter old fart, though.

IDK Bethesda basically said "Make a game in a year with the limited tools/resources we provide you" and then when he and Sawyer did they went "Lol you made a game now fuck you, you get no bonuses or recognition."

I've been bitter over a lot less.

Here's what makes that even more shitty- the short development time was likely an attempt to sabotage the metacritic royalties bet (which of course, they missed by one point). New Vegas was literally unplayable on the first day- it's not the developers' job to playtest, it's the producers. Really makes you think...

Then again, 4 was also unplayable on day one. :^)

I get being bitter over that but Avellone is really anal about the direction of Fallout these days, how it's too civilized and we need to nuke it back to the first game and yada yada yada. It really hurt Ulysses' character.

How is Fallout 4 "too civilized?" There's cannibalistic raiders everywhere and the most advanced city in the game is a bunch of tin shacks.

I'm talking more about the west coast, where they got the NCR and shit. It really ruffles his feathers for some reason.

I guess I can get it in that one of the fresher features of the game involves quite literally building civilization.

With my shameful fandom, it'd probably be OSR. The fanbase is generally cool, but LotFP has some autism in it. I even like Raggi and what he does (He wrote an article called 'I hate Fun' and that caused some chimpouts), but, geez, some of the adventure creators need to chill the fuck out. I've heard of terrible drama occurring on google plus of all things (Blogger is the preferred social media for OSR, so integrated google functions are a thing).

Also, one LotfP Adventure, Blood in the Chocolate, has a lot of focus on force feeding and inflating females, and the female antagonist of the adventure engaging in lesbian rape sex with fat female prisoners that she feeds herself. Like, I get that people jokingly throw around 'the creator has a fetish for (insert weird thing in the series here)', but, come the fuck on, this is way too obvious.

It's that it's possible to have wars between States. There was a war between the NCR and Ceaser's Legion.

Course, they could've solved that by doing the Steel Plague ending of Fallout 1 where there was gonna be a Dark Age that lasted up to 500 years.

Ulysses was literally Avellone's self-insertion in the game. It had all of the things a Avellone's self-insert character would have.

@Y2K Baby The biggest problem is the whole "INTERPLAY WAS THE BEST" part of their fandom. Bethesda saved the Fallout series by doing what they did even though I disagree with what they did with it (I mainly dislike how they went overboard with the 50's theme), I remember the days of Fallout Brotherhood of Steel and if it wasn't for that...thing Interplay was gonna make a game called Fallout eXterme where you fought fucking Mongolian horse riders in China.

LotFP looks like a lot of fun but one look at the art work immediately told me it would probably be pretty hip with guro fetishists and women-haters in general. Like goddamn.

Not quite. It does readily command a more grognardy audience than, let's say 5e, but that's mostly because it promises an overall more retro experience. The general gore, titty, and penis-demon atmosphere is mostly due to the fact that Raggi is taking the piss. It's grimdark stuff for the sake of being grimdark, like a step above WHFB in extremity. He was apparently big into the aesthetics of heavy metal, and thus the campaigns he likes to put out are kinda like playing through the tabletop equivalent of Manowar, Cirith Ungol, and Cannibal Corpse album covers.

It's pretty much the default and most 'famous' OSR system (outside of actual old-school DnD, B&X, and maaaaaybe Labyrinth Lord), so you'll see a variety of players.

Don't get me wrong, I actually love the art. In an era where most gamebook art is so bland it's nice seeing art with actual personality. I just feel because the art is so jarring and so frequently involves women suffering gory fates a lot of weird perverts will gravitate to it just for that.

It's a tossup, probably. LotfP is either described as 'that one OSR game with the neat character progression and elegant encumbrance system managed by a piece of work', or 'that weird demon-penis game managed by a grognard piece of shit'. If it had a smaller audience and had specific rules for guro beyond 'your characters are pretty frail' then I think it'd attract more guro perverts as opposed to the average band of edgelords, metalheads, and elitists that the OSR community gets at worst. In general, it seems that pervs in tabletop stick to modified PF or a generally well-known game, for ease of attracting pervs, and it's probably easier to fap when you have most of the rules committed to memory.
