Games With Really Spergy Fanbases That You Still Enjoy

In spite of their somewhat poor quality I enjoy the 2K WWE games solely for fucking about in their creation suites and making silly matches. Unsurprisingly there's a modding community for it but holy fuck is it the absolute worst.

Here's a quick summary: Paywalls and DRM for basic modding tools. :stress:

Although it isn't a video game (although it does have a video game version of it), I do still enjoy playing Magic: the Gathering from time to time. It also doesn't help that Wizards of the Coast has been pandering more and more to the Tumblr and SJW crowd.

And I thought the chimp outs by the community when EA added SecuROM to The Sims and Spore was bad enough...

Mario, Sonic, Marvel vs Capcom and Dynasty Warriors.

To be fair, the DW/Musou games have quite a bit of sperging over historical figures from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, while some people can bring interesting discussion over the participants of the wars and the events recorded in literature, the majority are chimping on which general from each of the warring factions they want Koei Tecmo to put in the game, and how Lu Bu stopped being the game's equivalent of a SNK boss to a mere glass cannon.

Marvel Vs. Capcom has now the best amount of autism and salt with Maximilian Dood legitimately being hyped with Infinite, and people who disliked how the game is being shown and exposed calling ol'Maxie a shill and a capcom sellout.

Baldur's Gate.

Excellent games, esp. the second one, which is a wonderful game of fun, and adventure, and interesting, nicely written quests, and tactical combat. Unfortunately, it was also the first game which included that which Bioware became infamous for.

Yes, that's right, boys and girls, it was the first Bioware game to contain romance.

Notably, this wasn't actually documented anywhere in the manual or codex or anything, so when Viconia the fruity drow cleric started hitting on your berserker PC whose sword was constantly wet, like a young girl in her prime, with the blood of slain foes, it was a bit of a surprise. Unfortunately this became one of the most popular aspects of the game, and then the modders got their hands on it all, and started writing godawful Mary Sue self insert characters with purple prosed fapfic tier dialogue, and then they started integrating their mods with each other, and inserting stupid hard battles which weren't organically difficult due to the levels and abilities of the enemies involved but because they were scripted to spam cheap or bugged spells or abilities, or had ridiculous custom gear that made them effectively indestructible, and similar.

This, I'm sure, is where Bioware fanboys' reputation arose.

So here, for your delectation, is a rundown of the most autismal mods to ever grace Baldur's Gate:

1. IMOEN ROMANCE

Spoiler: In BG2 it is revealed that Imoen is your sister. Now she's a romance option.

Skin not yet crawling? You can rape her:

2. SAERILETH

Infamous mod by a married couple who glory in the sobriquets of Nethrin and Sillana. She is actually a published author (!), so really should know better.

Saerileth is a 15 year old paladin who literally came down from Heaven for you. She has stupendous incorruptible pure pureness and speaks in Ye Olde Butcherede Englisshe. She also has full voice acting, which is a lot of effort for a mod frankly. Unfortunately the voice actress sounds like a Russian mail order bride. And probably is. And she butts in at every verse end. And has multiple portraits including an allegedly "sexy" one. But you can't fuck her because no sex until marriage. Even though you're the target of her own highly annoying single target sexuality, to the point at which if you sleep with someone else (and in Chapter 5, as BG players know, there's a bit where you have to in order to keep up a ruse you're involved in) she will literally drop dead of a heart attack.

(Cheating on your waifu has never been so gratifying.)

It gets worse though. In a fit of massive 'tism, there's a sidequest in which she is kidnapped by the Devil and you have to go and get her back. If you do this, a crazy stalker bloke shows up and steals everything you have on your person which increases your Charisma. If your CHR is reduced to under 16 by this, she dumps you for being a munter. Even though she was giving you snippets of Shakespearean verse as love tokens and cracking a moistie from merely holding your hand just a few minutes before.

There's loads of other terrible mods that required Herculean effort to put in, including one where you can fuck Bodhi (yes, that Bodhi, which constitutes necrophilia I'm sure), a terrible one which expands a minor character into a god-awful Mary Sue but because the bloke behind it basically made a system which allows you to install tons of mods and forces them to coexist nicely nobody dares criticise him, and so forth.

Maybe I'll reinstall at some point, install a shit-ton of terrible BG mods, and then do a Lets Sperg.

KOTOR is one of the three pieces of expanded universe that are actually decent.

EDIT: A word, and I was just agreeing with someone lol.

What are the other two?

I worded it disingenuously, both KOTOR games and Jedi Knight is really the only expanded universe lore and games I care about, but then again having quality gameplay that ages well (sans a few control gripes I had with Jedi Knight) is better than anything else they offer.

I know, non-canon, who cares though?

Brass tacks: These are great games with better expanded universe content, which isn't setting the bar very high (I loved the second KOTOR's story until the end).

Never played KOTOR but Jedi Knight was pretty cool even if it had FMV cutscenes with utterly scenery-chewing acting in it.

Smash Bros for the Wii U. Autistic fanbase, weirdos and not as cool as Melee, but its a game that holds a lot of sentimental value

I'll always love classic Doom, even if the fanbase is a bit spergy. Just say "Brutal Doom" within earshot of one of the bigger fans, then watch as they write an entire essay about how awful it is. Even though it's pointless to do so, because a lot of Doom fans already agree that BD is lame, and the teenagers who actually play it will never read their whining anyway.

Plus, being an older game, it's got its fair share of "woke" gamers who suck up to SA LPers and NeoGAF and believe all the outrage about nazis in gaming. I don't know what it is about old and lesser-known games that attracts these people.

Don't forget the want-to-be financiers bitching whenever an expensive card is reprinted. You'd think the fucking world was ending because Thoughtsieze was reprinted with the original art.

Not to mention those people would probably threaten to commit suicide if the Reserved List is removed, or even if certain cards are removed from it.

Since it seems appropriate to mention it today, the Metroid series. I certainly won't argue that Other M screwed the pooch on Samus's character, in addition to playing like a bad Nintendo 64 game for the most part. But I personally can't stand the idiots in the fanbase who demand that any new Metroid game essentially be just a reskin of Super Metroid. And that's before you get to those who consider Samus's height to be a matter to fight internet wars over.

I've recently been playing Payday 2 a lot and it's pretty OK.

There's always at least one kid in a shitty Payday 2 cosplay at every con I've ever been to, though. And he's always either a scrawny rail or a fatty.

I've gotten into Pokémon lately, and I'm not going to let the crazy fanbase (and Chris) ruin it for me.
