Games With Really Spergy Fanbases That You Still Enjoy

Danganronpa. I was around for the 2013 Somethingawful letsplay and if I can survive that, then I survive anything. Also Fire Emblem, since everyone is either a bitchy elitist or a fictionkin fuck
I've gotten into Pokémon lately, and I'm not going to let the crazy fanbase (and Chris) ruin it for me.
Pokemon is a big enough series that the crazies are easy (ish) to ignore. Series with smaller fanbases are the ones you gotta watch out for

Starcraft, I can enjoy it even if I wish a few things could be "updated", most fans on the other hand are Aspie enough to enrage at the mere thought of any changes, heck, the option to simply rebind hotkeys cheesed off some fans!

Thankfully I dont play multiplayer

I know interest in lore etc. doesn't matter to most normal players, but the fact they so easily dismiss any and all choices or references to real god damn lore in favor of pure pvp stuff bothers me.

Skip everything and go straight to the mode where you get to floor noobs and remind them how bad they are, and then go onto forums and complain about focus being given to co-op; the part of the game that actually generates money and expands on story characters.

Same, I'm guilty of being more interested in the Scourges origins than anything related to "build orders" or "APM".

The great thing about co-op is when you play with a multiplayer try-hard and they rage quit over a burrowed zergling, or their super duper build order fails to hold up to an early attack.

I have been several fandoms with the irony that haven't played a single one of its games save for the demos. I tried sonic 06 but I found the controls terrible that I stopped playing.

But whew boy, people sure do get butthurt when a few changes to their beloved characters happen.
This post is an enigma.

Retro gaming full stop has had a massive injection of 'tism recently. The price of old consoles and games is skyrocketing as 14 year old trend followers buy them up and then pretend to know a single thing about them on YouTube. Theres a guy on YouTube called NostalgiaNerd who lives in my area and stalks the same charity shops and second hands stores as me and he makes me so god damned angry. His channel is a perfect clone of the amazing LGR even down to the formatting and he pays ridiculous prices for shit. He also cherry picks job lots and leaves the junk behind which helps nobody.
Being in this hobby for years now I've noticed there is a shit ton of elitism within retro game collecting. Not naming off anyone in particu.. *cough* Pat Contri *cough* but there are these people who feel they should dictate making a fair price and being open about the value of a game. Or just being outright condescnding about having a complete NES set as if it's some kind of claim to fame. Where as some of us are still building up our collections, and maybe paying $30 for a Megaman 2 feels overpriced those said deals are being shunned because "they weren't fair to the seller". What' worse is when that mentality is reflective of the community and someone shits on you for scoring a Contra for $2.

One of the biggest gripes I have is with the fans of Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask. Both are excellent games with stories very unique to their respective titles. And overall I love both entries. But there are those die hard fans who swear fucking alligance to one or the other and the fanboy fights that spawn from it are outright fucking stupid.

Majora's Mask is better.

Overwatch
I find the ship/rank spergs too insufferable so I stay away from the fandom. I just play when friends are around or grind for lootboxes during events.

You forgot the genwars. And the starter wars. And the Smogon/VGC/casual wars.

I remember when kids would send drawings into the videogame magazines over the console wars. Now it's 30 year old men.

Sonic. Even though the fanbase is a fucking abyss of cringe and Forces might have been disappointingly average, there are still an awesome backlog of games to play, Adventure 1 and 2 being my favorites.

Now if only Sonic Team's staff would stop jumping ship to Nintendo...
