Isn't it just the fact it's usually blatant trans-trendering? Granted I've only met these people online, I've witnessed people taking the evolution into real life as well.
I used to hang with a bunch of boys, the most vanilla gays imaginable. Years pass, they get angry at one another on turn, people come in/out; one guy disappears into the depths of ironic-ironic new-age circlejerks, returns all up on the pronoun game. He mix back in with the gang (that I no longer partake in) and now, several years later, the lot of them are she/xe to some degree.
I met these people back when being bi was the new edge, and boy x boy was the most absurd concept imaginable. Now I've seen mid/late teen friends jump the shark straight into bunself void-greysexuality. I refuse to believe the majority of these people would even consider the thought they weren't cis had it not been for the internet, and the fact they skip several phases of self-doubt at this point only confirms to me that it's motivated.
Now imagine meeting someone like that; someone who "became" trans because it was a ticket to being a person of depth and interest, when you grew up gay as-can-be from age 14, with all the bullying and life threats it came with. Then you go online and see even straight people joke about traps le gay as if the whole ordeal is a joke you choose to partake in overnight.
I've met two legit transsexuals who are doing hormones, has gender-dysphoria related depression etc, who completely distance themselves from the whole trans bandwagon. Standing both in and outside the trans bubble, 9/10 of them seem like classic attention whores who just happened to choose a field usually taken serious (mental health) to play with.
That said, I find it fucking hilarious that random Brazilian escorts choose to become trans just to be a chick with a dick, and end up transitioning infinitely better than one of those North American warriors who spend their day arguing it's not just for the sex.
