I mentioned it before in the BSV thread, but one of the most amusing things about him is that he's one of the biggest detractors or trolls in Phil's life, outside of Phil himself.
It should be pretty telling that both the supposed detractors and actual fans agree that Phil needs to get a real job. It isn't trolling, it's just the simple truth. BSV acts like we're talking about someone like PewDiePie quitting YouTube to get a real job. PewDiePie makes more than enough to get by and build up a solid savings. Phil, by his own constant admission, doesn't. That's really become his defining characteristic for awhile now. If it weren't for his past behavior, I'd actually think that BSV was a troll like he originally claimed to be, because he's actively encouraging DSP to take the worst possible path that's going to lead to financial ruin.
Oh well, I guess he thinks that's the sacrifice that DSP has to make to save the economy.
Based upon BSV's response to my response to his response to the wrassling incident, I'm inclined to believe part of BSV believes he is doing "economic good" by supporting Phil.
Perhaps contrary to most of the people in this thread and online, I don't actually agree with the consensus that Phil should "get a job" for a variety of reasons...
- With his known history he'd likely struggle to get one
- He hasn't worked in an office environment in years
- He doesn't really have many skills that are marketable
- At the present point in time, even though he's begging somewhat, he's not going to get more money from a job than YouTube
Having said that though, I do believe Phil should be doing a fucking whole lot more to improve himself and his own situation. He should be spending an hour or two every single night learning some sort of skill that allows him to work from home, he should be on message boards, he should be learning how to edit videos, he should be learning how to make thumbnails.
He should be making new YouTube channels for different ideas (like Jack Scalfani has a new channel for talking about new tech. Is it great? no, but at least he's doing
something). He should be exploring projects that can provide a much different source of income (vid.me is the hot topic right now, but there are other sites like LBRY and many other "new internet" projects where you can make actual money).
"get a job" is one idea that does work for some people, but other people have a way of generating income by themselves by at least doing something.
My biggest criticism of Phil is that he does nothing. The job market is crap? The economy is shit? Your girlfriend left you? You're up to your eyes in debt? You have a receding hairline?
So the fuck what? Go out there and at least show the world that you're doing something besides playing video games online and staying up till the middle of the night watching TV. If you're going to watch that much TV then why the fuck don't you start doing reviews of some of the TV shows you watch?
Since I've started watching Phil this is what I've seen:
Day 1:
Prestream about personal life and issues for 60 minutes
Play videogames and get angry at video games for a few hours
Day 2:
Prestream about personal life and issues for 60 minutes
Play videogames and get angry at video games for a few hours
Day 3:
Prestream about personal life and issues for 60 minutes
Play videogames and get angry at video games for a few hours
I'm sure Phil would have an excuse to not do anything that is suggested. Credit where credit is due, if nothing else, Phil has perhaps the most legendary excuse making abilities I've ever encountered (this is mainly why I'm so interested in him)... But Phil, I haven't ever seen you try, put down the bullshit excuses and actually try something. You can't even cook anything besides fucking pasta sauce. Aren't you bored?
Where's your YouTube show about wrassling? You seem to watch a lot of it and know quite a bit about it, so why don't you at least
try to make something out of it?
The elephant in the room when talking about "get a job" is that his current business model does actually
make money, not only that but for a single person it makes a
significant amount of money. It makes enough money that if used wisely a person could set themselves up for life.
A lot of the derision I hear about is towards Phil's bad decisions, and I agree, he makes terrible decisions but he also has a habit of making no decisions until things are far too late. And "too late" is right now, pretty soon it'll be "far too late" yet again.
Is he really expecting this cash cow to last forever? He says that he doesn't expect to be doing it when he's older, the question then is what the fuck are you going to do Phil?
