wow I know they're not Catholic, but I'm pretty sure most Catholics would shake their heads at this lol
Most Catholics would look at that and go WTF!?!?!
See here's the funny thing about Catholicism that most don't realize. At the heart of Catholic theology and one that separates Catholicism from many of the more Evangelical Protestant faiths is the core concept of Grace. Basically (and I am sure I am wording this badly) part of man's function is free will. Every individual should freely choose to follow God. Freely choose not to sin. If you take away someones ability to sin via force you are directly interfering with their relationship with God. There are of course limits to this. Those things that have a direct negative impact on others (Murder, Rape, Theft, etc Abortion falls under this category for Catholics) may be legislated and actively forbidden. But otherwise you must make a personal choice not to sin. Of course Catholicism is also deeply entrenched in the concept of Shame. So once you make that choice badly, then you'll hear about it. (Keep it in thine pants or feel the wrath of the Nuns ruler if you will). Catholics don't have a huge history of segregating the sexes like this place does (outside of certain obvious points of education). They understand where more Catholics come from. While they encourage abstinence until marriage, they do encourage normal social intermingling as a pathway to get to that point.
It strikes me that somebody taught Skylar here an awful lot about the rules of Catholic Doctrine, but never got into the core concepts. Somehow somewhere the chapter on Grace and how it applies to others got skipped over.
