YO! I found the design I sent him buried waaaay deep into my facebook. However it's really fucking gross so I did a super quick and crappy redo.
Just in case anyone wanted to know the design he rejected back in 2014ish. I don't see that much of a difference between this one and his "official" substitute teacher though. Was mine too tame for him?

I see little difference between your design and the current counselor design aside from different a different hairstyle and color palette. And the fact that, you know, your design isn't nearly as exaggerated and therefore doesn't look off-putting. (I've never really been a fan of kjech's art that much tbh, his work just looks uncomfortable to me.)

>wants the game to be taken seriously
>filled to the brim with memes and hilariously ridiculous sexual themes

no, legit quotes I said too, he threw the "it's just a fictional game" card

Sure, it's a fictional game and anything goes in fiction, but the fact that he wants the game to be taken seriously despite him throwing in meme easter eggs and over-the-top sexual themes shows how much of a massive hypocrite he is.
How does he expect anyone to take his game seriously when literally every character name is a terrible pun, the sexual-themes are so blatant that it's hilarious, and when he keeps pumping the game full of memes?
Not even his young, loyal fanbase is treating it like the dark, serious stealth game he's trying to push. They're treating it like everyone else is: Meme Easter Egg Simulator.
If he wants YanSim to be treated like a serious game, then he needs to treat developing it as such: He needs to stop adding in all these pointless easter eggs that'll mean nothing in the (alleged) final game and actually focus on adding actual gameplay mechanics, as well as tone down on the bad pun names, blatant anime stereotypes and the oversexualized nature of the game (including the panty shots). The way it's going right now, no one is going to take it seriously.

I don't think he can go back and make it as dark and serious as it is "supposed" to be without reworking the ENTIRE system from scratch.
Though it's only an assumption since I do not code or work on games, but it seems as though his entire foundation for YanSim is flimsy, broken and silly.
It won't be able to support the "dark themes" he wants to add without it seeming edgy af

The project is doomed but I still look forward to what the final mess may be if it actually gets finished.

Why is Alex suspecting of others stealing osts from games? Doesn't he steal too?
I think he used to take copyright music as "placeholders"
But with the assets I think he stole those. Though I'm not ENTIRELY sure since he did purchase some assets. I'm not too educated on copyright even though my teacher took 2 weeks to go over copyright in production class, eh.
Can he not legally create a product with purchased items? It's like buying stock images for an illustration task.

I do think some of the environments are completely stolen and ripped though, I know the models were purchased.
I do know some of the Easter eggs contained copyright music but he did eventually remove some of them. Not sure if they're still there and I remember a post of his saying YS "now has it's own original music!"
Which is totally hypocritical if he's bitching about other stuff using preexisting sound tracks when he HIMSELF had used copyright music.

I think that when it comes to product development, anything you didn’t make yourself should be treated as tainted.

He used a LOT of music from other games; Most of it was from Nintendo. (The list is a few pages back.)

Nintendo is so sue-happy, I'm extremely surprised that they haven't gone after Alex for copyright infringement, especially with the game's growing popularity

Maybe Alex realized Nintendo could strike at any moment and removed the copyrighted music out of fear

That makes sense
But considering YS is a free game (for the time being) I don't think it's illegal to use purchased assets to create a product.
In production class we were able to use Royalty Free music with our videos as long as they were either for educational use or non commercial use.

YanSim is technically non commercial at the moment, yea? Or does his Patreon count as it being commercial? It's a hazy line I cannot see.

Of course stealing content is another story all together..

You can have dumb shit in a game and still take it deadly serious, Dead Rising and Metal Gear are perfect examples of that. I'd argue that Yansim does not takes itself seriously enough.

It's less abou dark/grityness and more about how sensible and relatable characters are. You can have a guy in a megaman costume killing zombies with a light saber, as long as he is an interesting character whose actions make sense, you will care for him. If Yanderesim had likable characters it would be a whole nother story but it doesn't so you don't care about anyone, and if you don't care about something, you can't take it seriously.

Alex is too retarded to get this, he thinks a "serious" game is a game with gore and sexuality and cat murder, he is the same fanfic writer he was a decade ago. When he explained why ayano is lemotionless i asked him to make her interesting he said "I never intended to make her interesting or captivating character." Why should i care about her quest for Senpai then? Agent 47 (Hitman) isn't a particularly deep character but his story sure is much engaging than "some emotionless girl killing other girls for some guy she doesn't even talk to".

That being said, the easter eggs are still awful because they kill the first impressions. If they were secret cheat codes like GTA it would be fine you know, but instead they're what the game is known for and Alex knows it but he keeps making more anyway.

The eight deadly words.

Ayano is probably supposed to be a stand-in for the player, so her blandness is justified to some degree. Considering how many female teens latched unto the game I'd argue it worked to some extent. The other characters have no such excuse, because they're all the same - shallow and with dark and edgy pasts.

So whats the excuse for the rest of the characters besides laziness and the tism. All of the rivals are tiddies and bland, while Senpai is either bland or just an asshole we're supposed to want because we're told to want him

He's just not a good writer. He can write paragraphs on some small shit that doesn't matter and probably won't even appear in the game, but can't make the characters engaging or likeable in any way.

I'm pretty sure the tism plays at least some part in it. A writer needs to be able to see what the world's like from another man's shoes, and Eva isn't exactly known for his social skills...

There's one non-bland character in YanSim: Kokona. Which shows: she's the second most popular character in fanart after Ayano.
The main problem with Kokona is that she was written as edgy as possible without becoming absurd, and you can't have too many characters like that, so I'm afraid that Alex's writing talent peaked on her and no other character will be as interesting.
Also, Kokona's backstory was written over what, two years? The only other character Alex dedicated so much time to is probably Osana, and Osana already smells of a tsundere written by a tsundere hater. So even two years of writing doesn't guarantee a decent character.

I'm not sure if anyone in this thread saw this but Azzman is back at it with the Alex shade using Alex's ragequitting in Cuphead.
Alex rage starts at 0:05
I don't get it, why does Azzman use Alex for a video again? I didn't watched the video so sorry if I say something wrong but doesn't it makes the "YandereDev situation explaination video" kinda.. useless? Don't get me wrong, Alex deserves every asskick he gets from the internet but Azzman knows how easily he gets triggered. The rage video is an insider but still.. Alex WILL watch the video and hello drama. It's unnecessary.

That's one big thing that always rubbed me the wrong way about YanSim: the characters just felt so bland and basic (aside from perhaps Kokona.) I always decided to give Alex the benefit of the doubt and thought he'd develop them more as development went on, but that doesn't look like it's happening between you and me.

You can easily sum up the characters like so: Emotionless girl Ayano, generic Senpai, tsundere Osana, shy weird girl Oka, ditzy Midori, etc. Kokona is probably the best developed character, and all of it will be rendered completely pointless once Osana is implemented. You can see why the fans of YanSim were clamoring for Kokona to become an actual rival: she's actually interesting compared to the other characters, and people want to see her story through.

I know Ayano is supposed to be a stand-in for the player, but it doesn't seem like Alex treats her like that, at least to me. He always goes "Yandere-chan would do this, Yandere-chan would do that, etc." like she's not a vessel for the player and rather her own stand-alone character. Because of this, I end up seeing her as her own character, and considering her background and (lack-of) personality, I can't get invested in her at all. She feels like a block of wood. Even when you decide to go pacifist and pair your rivals with other boys, you can tell that Ayano is just being manipulative and trying to get her own way on her own instead of actually caring about her rivals' well-being and love lives, like I probably would in that situation. The video about her childhood did nothing to alleviate the pain. In fact, it made her even more boring to me.

(Also, I can't be the only one who feels the way he treats Midori in his videos as rather insulting to his fanbase, considering she's sort of a stand-in for them.)
