Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

D&C getting riled up over the new Valkyrie reboot being a lesbian. The author of said comic will be Saladin Ahmed, he of Racist Corn Pops fame, and massively underrated as a lolcow imo (there's a great tweet of his somewhere where he bitched against racism or something then immediately clarified that what he went through was nowhere near as bad as what women went through). I first encountered him in SFF where he was exactly the same as he currently is, so moving into comics was the natural progression for him, tbh.

Sadly, this means that we're likely to see the practice die off long before we get to Ponygate, Gateygate, or gods help us, Sonicgate. I'm sorry. :(

It'll probably take a few more times before the cretins in media catch on that pandering to dangerhairs while alienating the people who actually buy your product is financial suicide.

^^ The latest autistic slap-fight in #Comicsgate. I think D&C himself is being extra autistic about this, I saw Bemis's tweet, and it was a bad attempt at a joke/insult, no more.

For some background, Max Bemis is the writer of Moon Knight, whose 1st issuewas recommended by D&C:

..Only for Bemis to be autistic enough to reject said praise, because it's not coming from the right people:

God, I love autism.

The problem is the back end of the old adages are holding true.

"If 10 people complain then in reality a thousand people hated it, just couldn't be bothered to write in" is how I was always taught when it came to consumer complaints.

This is rather changed when it goes from having to make a phone call, or write a letter versus the very easy snappy way we can communicate in this day and age. I can rattle off an annoyed tweet with barely a thought and press "send" while previously I'd have had to find the brand and customer feedback number, or the mailing address.

The other issue is that people demand "instant feedback" on a lot of things. This has also, sadly, extended to various creators wh0're obviously not cut out for the idea of people saying they're crap at their job. (Hence Mark Waid's bizarre screeching and smashing of his phone which no doubt had twitter open at the time).

The major problem is that marketing and social media management (an extension of marketing) now run the show. Nearly all of whom are not consumers, they're not fans. They're educated via the University system (which turns out liberal lick-spittles nearly without fail) who then try and push hard their own agenda because "it's what people are talking about" or "focus groups" (largely made up of the 'correct kind' of people) they then push disasters hard like America Chavez because "This group is x people big, which means it's x wasted potential sales."

Disney has yet to properly take charge of their comics division, and it's entirely possible they will quite soon. In the same way they did over EA and the Star Wars debacle. It'll come very quickly, very brutally and people will still be dusting themselves down wondering what the fuck happened.
