"Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism". True, however criticism by its nature means something you can ignore or disagree or downright not give a fuck and truck along. This is not allowed here. If I "defend" this guy, I'll get banned. If I go against the hive mind, I'll get banned. If I fart something that sounds like "tranny", I'll get banned. This is crossing over to real life too, if your friends are hysteric lefties, saying something "dangerous" means you'll get ostracized. You see that too when these mongoloids dox someone and try to pressure the place they fucking work in to fire them because they tweeted out something terrible in 2010. If the actor who wins the Oscars in his speech says that James Franco did nothing wrong and that he was robbed, he won't be criticized. His career will die.

So yeah, "freedom from criticism" doesn't work like that and their inability to grasp that concept is fucking astounding.

It's "freedom to criticize the same things as I do." It's a license to parrot them, as a form of flattery.

In many ways ResetERA feels even worse than NeoGAF. Which is an astounding feat in itself. Circle-jerking taking to the next level.

I just don't get the point of them posting threads about person x being a racist/phobic-what-ever-whatchamacallit human. Since they don't want a discussion then bloody why do they have a topic about the subject. Just so everyone can post "yes I agree, person x is a barfbag scum". It's asinine to the extreme. But hey, come be PC, things are splendid when you're ofended ♪ ♫ ...

I'd love to see a game in the vein of Papers Please but from the perspective of a ResetERA mod. Who's allowed to post, which opinions are valid, which users are protected by another mod and other questions you have to juggle the answers to while filling your ban quota.

I feel like ResetEra only feels worse than NeoGAF was, because of the speed at which ResetEra's community eschewed any pretenses of balanced and nuanced discussion in favor of echo chamber shenanigans. With that said, I do believe that ResetEra has some distance to cover before it matches up to NeoGAF at it's worst (classic GAF threads like this are a high bar to clear)... but they're moving toward that goal at top speed.

If any of you choose to read through that thread I just linked, here's a fun little exercise. Take note of the most inexplicably persistent and concerned posters throughout that thread. The posters who insisted the hardest that Bayonetta was raped. The posters who insisted that even if she wasn't, the fact that somebody could assume that... made the scene just as problematic as if it were an intentional depiction of rape.

You might find that those specific posters have since moved on from NeoGAF, to become respected moderators on a certain other gaming forum you've all heard of.
