Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

If a very good book from Marvel barely sells 40k - and I assume the comic fans aren't rejecting said very good book out of hand because it's from Marvel - this is probably not going to have much effect.
Every single post of yours in this thread is a variation of this same damn thing. Do you actually have something to contribute here? You don't seem to give a fuck about comics or the industry.

This is one of the reasons why I have nothing but unbridled disdain for Macleans magazine and will rejoice when it goes belly up. If diversity is really the key to the future success of the industry, then why has it not been working for Marvel these past four years? Could it be the heavy-handed political messages? The atrocious writing and art?

What I find interesting is that article fails to mention DC Comics and its success it has had with Rebirth. DC is not exactly hurting for diversity right now. Green Lanterns stars a Hispanic-American woman and an Arab-American man. Mr. Terrific, a black super genius, is headlining The Terrifics. Ryan Choi is the Atom again. However, their success has nothing to do with their status as minorities. It has everything to do with the quality of the stories. They key here is that DC is respecting is history. Beloved characters like Ray Palmer and Ted Kord are around, but in a respectful way that stays to the legacy theme as mentors to their successors.

Additionally, DC creators have been nothing but courteous to their customers while Marvel's have shown nothing but seething contempt for them. I will gladly spend money the works of Ethan Van Sciver, Patch Zircher, and Sean Gordon Murphy because they WANT my business and act like professionals, not a clique of self-important pricks like the Marvel Bullpen.

Seriously--fuck Macleans. They are part of the reason why the mainstream media in Canada is some a pathetic joke.

This whole thing has been a perspective changer on the industry since a lot of the people chimping out about a man making videos in his car are those who I thought were actual professionals. I can understand all the recently hired tumbrinas to act as tumblinas do but a bunch of these guys are industry vets and they must have dealt with people who don't like them before.

But maybe some of the stuff said about old men was true.

Keep in mind that Marvel has lost a lot of market share in the last 4-5 years, they don't have many books in the top 10-20 sellers.

Also, the interconnected nature of the Marvel/DC universes mean that the more invested readers are into said universes, the more book sold, Marvel just hasn't been compelling for years now, not to mention them not taking advantage of the incredible amount of eyeballs that their cinematic universe brings to the comics.

They're probably angry that they realize they're in a dying company, but it's easier to blame imaginary Nazis than that their product currently blows goats.

Hey Marvel. DC is doing it right. Side stories that stand alone out of continuity. Makes it easy for fans to consume and non fans to ignore.

It’s almost like they respect their readers a little. (Note that Marvel doesn’t respect sjws at all either. They just want the money)

Not a fan of that Wonder Woman art though.

That is just disgusting.

A woman breaks the law to resolve an alleged injustice that could be solved legally and a country wants to give her asylum for an admitted criminal act.

That's aiding and abetting, and the idiot who wrote this wants me to cheer for the admitted crook and those helping said crook escape punishment?

Gotta love that they all just immediately believe this woman without an ounce of skepticism, not even bothering to verify anything she's said it question the possibility that she could be lying or anything. Guess she's just got too much Girl Power for that.

Also if they wanted to make some point about women's rights in India in a way that isn't fucking dumb, an easy fix would be to have the tech woman say that she has unearthed information regarding either government or wealthy upper class collusion to allow for crimes like human trafficking and other human rights violations that she wants asylum for in order to properly expose thisinformation. You know, things that are huge problems and India and would be more likely another government might be interested in.

But nope gotta make it about muh wage gap because the Tumblrinas that are(n't) reading will throw a shit-fit if you imply a pee-oh-cee country has problems and expect them to relate to actual human suffering.

Heather Antos is gone:

Good riddance, though I am certain that they are going to hire another assistant editor with a similar mindset. People like Antos do not get hired at Marvel because they have much love for the medium they are working in. It is because Ike Perlmutter is cheap skinflint and these women will work for peanuts because they see the position as a jumping board for their career. Granted, that is the way things for career advancement, but I never really thought she took the job seriously.
