So is it basically like diabetes; you can treat it and essentially be symptom-free but you still have it?Gout is incurable. If you have it, you have it for good. It's just the kind of metabolism that generates uric acid crystals in your joints. That doesn't go away. But it's so completely treatable that it's ridiculous. Just change diets, take allopurinol (a pill that costs less than aspirin) and you never have an actual gout attack.
