Being "able to work" is not a black and white issue, so those who evaluate SSDI can't apply it that way. The actual criteria becomes more along the lines of "does he have a disability that could materially hamper his ability to work". And as you said, it is usually at a quick glance, most people applying for disability don't have a wiki dedicated to them. So Chris is definitely going to be deemed eligible.
It has more to do with how much he earns and for how long. At a certain point, assuming that Patreon and eBay are considered income, Chris has demonstrated an ability to earn a living and becomes ineligible for SSDI. The criteria is not based on long term sustainability. They don't analyze whether it is a temporary opportunity that will fizzle out in a few years and leave him with the same limited ability to earn an income. Although at that point, he would be eligible for reinstatement.
All that does assume that Patreon and eBay is considered income not charity (which is probably up for interpretation), and that the person who is evaluating his case knows about them or cares enough to find out (which is highly unlikely).
