"The talk"

The thing there is that Chris generally doesn't understand how technology even works on that level. To him, he thinks consoles and computers are in fact two completely different things, when in reality consoles are just specialized pre-built computer hardware/software bundles with specific peripherals (though not so much these days) that you can plug and play.

And while Chris COULD have a gaming rig built for that purpose, he doesn't have a clue where he could have such a thing done, and he cares more about video game name brands being the source of this combined gaming console machine because of the Hyperdimension Neptunia bullshit he's obsessed with giving the brands and individual consoles identities.

I know a few borderline exceptional individuals (hopefully not myself :optimistic:) who are fascinated with computing technology, and I can see why. I can't speak for the hard details but CPUs are incredibly complex devices. In the last 40 years engineers implemented things like context switching, interrupt handling, very accurate branch prediction, out-of-order execution, virtual memory management, multithreading, an entire hierarchy of caches, just to name a few off the top of my head. It's really a rabbit hole and people with actual understanding of these workings are very impressive to me (and probably to security researchers, driver and performance code writers). However Chris is only interested in the CPU waifu side, and in similarity to diversity hire SJWs, would shirk at the first instance of intellectually demanding work.

@Marvin Do you have any insight on how Chris's parents dealt/deal with his fantasies, the "cartoons are real" stuff, CWCville, etc? If they ignored it, indulged it, played along, confronted him on it, etc? IMO his delusions seem way more intense now than when Bob was around- I wonder if Bob reacted in some way that kept that shit in check to some extent.
It didn't really start until like 6-12 months ago.

And, at the risk of a-logging, Idea Guy did real psychological damage to Chris by encouraging his retreat to fantasy, and I hope that asshole never lives down further crippling the psyche of a man whose sense of reality is already more tenuous than it should be.

When Idea Guy dies, the version of Hell he ends up in?

CWCville.

Yeah, Chris was damn lucky that his Commodore unit was in largely working condition and AFAIK the only part needing replacement was a cable to the monitor (if even that since I think it was speculated Chris was simply putting the wrong cable feed in because the connector happened to fit). If there was an actual problem with the hardware then Chris would have been in real trouble in trying to get that dinosaur working again.

IMO the stereotypical connection between autists/aspies and tech stuff is because autists like the strict rules and lack of ambiguity in fields like programming and electronics (same with the connection between autists and gaming). Chris has a bit of that mentality (overly literal interpretation of what people say, wanting strict, absolute rules for dating), but he lacks the work ethic or persistance for those areas, And because he's always been surrounded with people who let him have his own way, he seems unable to adapt to the kind of thinking required for, say, programing- he'd either expect programming to adapt to him, or he'd just give up.

It's a shame- I suspect that with decent parenting he might have found some success in tech, but it's too late for that much of a change in him now. CPU waifus and incoherent demands for custom consoles is as close as he'll get.

I think the retreat into fantasy worlds is Chris's reaction to the stress from the added responsibilities he's taken on due to Barb's slide. It's pretty clear evidence that Chris isn't able to function on his own without supervision and care.

Not really. The C64 was such a gigantic part of the 80s and even early 90s home computer culture that there is still a large community of enthusiasts and peripheral makers both hobby and professional. There would have been no shortage of parts for him. Also with between 18-25 million of em manufactured and sold, he could have replaced it for a pittance off Craigslist or Ebay or even a garage sale.

However since it was Bob's, no other C64 will do.

if Chris is still fucking on about the cartoons and voices in his head then Null has a goddamn war ahead of him

personally I would just give up because Chris has absolutely no track record of success or doing better than he did previously

but that's just me as someone who values time enough to not play keyboard psychologist to a genuinely broken human

I don't agree that the handful of times he "talked" to Sonichu earlier in his life were the same phenomenon.

His disconnect from reality is clearly way worse now than before, but what parts of that phenomena exist now, that didn't exist 2, or even 5 years ago? He'd talked about "cartoons are real" and "the cartoon dimensions". He'd talked about his great importance (as Mayor) in the totes real cartoon dimension. Stuff in that cartoon dimension were real enough to him to affect his IRL emotions and behaviour (eg most of the old trolling, his reaction to Asperchu and the Billy Mays stuff). He'd talked about having conversations with fictional characters, and their presence at real events. The only differences I can see is that now he says he physically travels to cartoon-land (and the porthole plot-point in the comic about his dog makes me suspect that belief existed back then, he just kept it quiet), and he's started fucking the cartoons. Apart from that it seems like all the same beliefs and behaviours, just dialed up a fuckload. And he talks about it more.

What am I missing? What's he doing now that he wasn't doing (but to a lesser degree) five years ago?

The early stuff really was Sonichu talking to him.

You can't really tell what Chris is thinking based on what the cwcki has quoted him as saying.

Edit: There's a difference between a kid getting dragged to church because his parents told him to. And that same kid later on doing LSD and declaring himself jesus.

This is one of the biggest headscratchers for me. It's so hard to gauge his levels of delusion. Where would someone put this along the lines of genuine schizo visions, childish imaginary friends, otherkin, or an adult taking a sudden interest in tulpas? It reeks of so many of these things but doesn't fit any of them at the same time.

Throwing my thoughts in there, some great comments and thoughts on the mind of Chris Chan tho!

Chris' mind has a mind of its own, so to speak. In a way, he is almost brainwashed, or programmed to think the way he does. He doesn't have natural thoughts, if he does, they are few and far between the way his mind truly works.

He really has to be de-programmed, somehow, if that is even possible, which I don't feel it is. Remember, he is a 36 year old man now. The average male of that age has a kid or two, maybe been divorced, screwing around on his wife, has been at his job for 10 years, maybe has been shuffling from job to job, whatever/etc. In other words, they have had life experiences, many and varied, but based in the reality of what is life for most of us. As we age, lots of things change, the way we think, feel, what we do. Just think of your own lives, all your experiences, good and bad, what has changed with you and within you, all that is shaping who you are, who you will become.

But Chris, well he is basically a teen in his mind, and with no intrinsic real life experiences, other than maybe school and Bob dying, all he has is his fantasy world, which to him is fantastic and wonderful I am sure. But whatever that Idea Guy fucker did to Chris, he has made things much, much worse if Chris is now believing the extraordinary stuff about toonworld that is just not real.

To really help Chris, he has to be made to understand that this alternate reality is just not real. But like I said, an entire hospital full of the world's best psychs would not appear to be able to get through to him from the sounds of it. If somehow Chris can be brought a bit back down to earth with his thinking on some of the crazier shit, it would be of great benefit. But that could also throw him in to depression if somehow he did understand that this stuff is not real and does not exist.

With Null doing some monitoring that will help weed out the worst shit that may have otherwise fucked him up even more if it got through to him. But it sounds like he is so susceptible to influence that why couldn't some ass come up to him at a con and give him some spiel how is the true form of Sonic or Pikachu or something and get in to his head again?

@Marvin, is there a way or is it a possibility to get him to understand the reality of life? Its kind of a rhetorical question given the answer is no, but given "the talk", by apparently a few people now, to Chris, are they in essence never going to make him understand due to the way his mind works? The effort being made to help him is great, but is it a case of you can talk til your blue in the face, but Chris will never truly learn and understand enough to avoid the pitfalls he faces and the things he does when in a reality of life situation? Like when he went turtle at the con? If it was any of us and security asked us to leave, we may grumble, complain or simply do as we are told, but we would handle it in a way that didn't cause the creation of memes. If same thing happened next con, would he do the same, or will these talks that are being given to him perhaps sink in and he would handle the situation more appropriately?

In other words, should he have someone around him at a con to guide him, or can he be made to understand and deal with situations and life, and not believe other fools who tell him other crazy shit to fuck with him? That really is the key for me on a go forward basis as Chris continues his journey in to life.

It won't be the talk that does anything. It'll be the memory of getting kicked out that does it.

So for example, next time, Chris might start getting nervous a few steps earlier, if he starts seeing signs that he might get hassled again.

Him going turtle was him connecting his past history of getting tackled by jerkops, with "oh shit, I'm getting kicked out". The only issue is that he didn't see it coming until the staff were already there.

If you can teach him the signs, then his fear of getting kicked out will do the rest.

Right, I get that. But what I was striving to express in my convoluted post above was more along the lines of him not even getting nervous. Like rather than instilling or him relying on fear of getting kicked out, can he be made to grasp that firstly don't do things that will get you kicked out, but if you do and they come to kick you out, apologize and gracefully exit.

I realize that the fear will certainly work, but is it possible to make him understand the better way to handle it or not do something to put a target on his back? If the folks talking to him tried to explain and make him understand, would he be able to? Or would they be wasting their time in trying to change his way of thinking?

In other words, Idea Guy basically programmed him. Can the trusted people who are talking to him do the same, in the ways of reality? Or in essence deprogram him of the BS that has now messed him up in a much more insane way?

The turtling was comparable to fainting or passing out.
LOL, well yes, but again, can Chris ever be brought to a point where he functions close to normal in situations such as these?

The tie-in with my thoughts is that while the talkers have great intentions and hopefully can help him somewhat, can they have a more profound impact to help him more in life, especially since in the not too distant future he will be alone?

Why isn't Null a wiiiiiiiiieeeeeeen?

Just because he owns KF?

Not judging, just asking (for you sensible snow fucking kike flakes).

I'll make it easy to understand.

1. It's not something he considers funny.
2. Those assholes tend to shit up and embarrass his site, why would he desire to emulate them?
3. Chris is mentally fragile man and tends to do foolish things entirely on his own, trying to force it generally comes off as cruel, edgy, unfunny, and tryhardish, and Null has no interest in being any of those things and has instead chosen to DEFEND Chris, insofar as he is able, from those individuals.
4. He has a conscience.
