My dash is full of people obsessively shlicking over the fact that Ruby is wearing a dress during the wedding, so can't be made male in the homophobic countries' dubs. Seriously, like three diffirent posts about it, reblogged multiple times.
Besides, it's not like it can't be written around with ease.
They’re aliens so they might not understand the culture well enough to wear the outfits right.

Haven't seen any of that come across my dash. Right now it's all people sperging over "muh fascist dictators" getting actual depth and possible redemption.
It’s called diplomacy. It’s easier to strike a peaceful treaty with horrid leaders than win a war you’re unprepared for. But of course, Tumblrinas are babies who can’t see beyond black and white.

I hope the foreign dubs make jokes about Male-Ruby being a dude in a dress just so the salt reaches nuclear proportions from muh trans soggy knees and muh erasure.

I didn’t get them in my dash, but i did see them in the tag a lot. I’ll admit I thought it was an interesting twist to have Sapphire in the tux and Ruby in the dress show-wise, but there are definitely some people making too big a deal out of it.

IF I wanted to watch it (HUGE emphasis on that IF) and get only the part that advance the plot, is that even possible? The show has a reputation for having enormous amount of filler and padding and I would prefer to avoid anything unimportant

Pretty sure I've heard of a few fan playlists out there that list their ideal/most efficient combination of episodes. Granted, it's still a lot of material, but you'll cut down on a lot of Beach City episodes that way at least.

I mean, there’s always some bit of plot in all episodes, even if sometimes it’s just establish long characters or whatnot. I feel like the whole “UGH ALL FILLER” thing tends to be exaggerated just because people get really hooked on the plot heavy episodes.

The only episode I can think of so far that legitimately has no business being an episode is Onion Friends or whatever it was called. Unless I’m forgetting something important that happened in that episode.

Garnet's Universe and the one about the pizza girl are useless too.
Many episodes about the mailman are as well, but he's a fun character at least

Garnet’s Universe came to mind, but that was during season 1, which at the time was being presented to us as another weird slice of life cartoon, back when the true nature of the story was only hinted at in the background. So that episode helped maintain the facade.

I do tend to appreciate the episodes that focus on Steven’s interpersonal relationships, because those elements will always be part of the show’s bones no matter how epic the story gets, but yeah at the later stages they do get a little frustrating.

And as far as I can remember the cuck mailman episodes have all really been about other things, like Beach City’s historical relationship with the gems or how the gems interact with humans independent of Steven. The mailman is just the danny tanner-looking mother fucker who gets the ball rolling.

Onion Friend was the one where we found out about Amethyst and Vidalia being friends and all. Onion Gang is probably the one you’re thinking of. The whole “end of summer/Onion’s weird friends” thing.

EDIT: More Greg stuff.

I just had a strange ass thought.
In the world of SU where minerals and gems are sentient beings from a far away land. How do rings, jewelry, and other things work? Like how does Diamond rings work in that world? Are they alive? The fluoride in toothpaste, was it ground up from a living thing? Are there things like mineral vegetarians in that world?
Am I high?

I think that the alien gems and gems in jewelry are meant to be separate things in the show.
