Winter soldier had just come out, and by that time, marvel had their holding pattern down, pretending that gotg was some landmark is really stupid. Also, fucking hell guys gotg wasn’t some masterpiece, and gotg 2 wasn’t even good, it’s not like he was some auteur genius that we’ll never see again. Its marvel, its not like James Gunn could make any direction that the studio didn't have approved by committee already.

I just realized something. Bob keeps crediting James Gunn when he should be crediting Nicole Perlman.

Perlman was hired in '09 to do research on what Marvel properties would make good movies, and much to everyone's surprise she tapped GotG. If anyone deserves credit for success, it's her. Hell, she was the first woman to have a screenplay credit in the MCU with Guardians.

And yet Bob is all about James Gunn, all the time.

Bob pretty much has argued that. Everything he has said indicates that he views the MCU as the pinnacle of art and culture, where every movie is fantastically done and plays an important role in society (except when he has criticisms of them).

His obsession with and reckless praise of them really cements just how much of a man-child Bob truly is. Only someone with a child-like mentality would view these films the way he does.

My favorite example of it was despite being a movie CRITIC, he decided to jump in the argument about the direction of comics and argue the idea that "You know who else disliked art? HITLER." without any sense of irony. A CRITIC telling you CRITICISM makes you into....well, Hitler. You have to be super dense not to see the irony there.

Bob's idea was that Hitler liked classical art and disliked art of the Weimar Republic therefore if you dislike modern superhero comics and prefer them go back to what works means you're exactly like Hitler.

He then went on to describe the Weimar Republic as a progressive period instead of a shitty place you wouldn't want to live in.

Bob is a narcissist, so yes, he believes that he has the influence to force Feige and Iger to rehire James Gunn. He has always had these delusions of grandeur and expected others to recognize his superiority. He also needs the admiration of others like the rest of the animal kingdom needs oxygen and inflates his rather paltry accomplishments like his hours-long rant on BvS as the pinnacle of film criticism. This subsquently comes with an attitude of entitlement where he "rightfully" should have the authority to lecture Bob Iger on his hiring practices. Heaven help any poor, unwitting soul that calls him out on his foolishness. That will only earn them his undying disdain and condescension.

For all his pomposity and posturing, Bob is really just a toddler throwing a tantrum because Nanny Disney took his favourite toy away. The Walt Disney Company has a net worth $150 billion. What reason do they have to listen to a film critic from one of Boston's backwaters with 30K followers on Twitter and 150K subscribers on YouTube? If anything, they know people like Blobbo will hem and haw at Gunn's firing, but will come running to the theatres when the next MCU film hits and praise it to high heaven.

I dare Bob to make good on his threats. Refuse to go see Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, and every subsequent MCU film until Disney reinstates James Gunn. I fucking dare him. Encourage others to join him and lead a boycott of Marvel Studios and hit them where it really hurts instead of mounting a low-effort hashtag campaign. But we know that he won't. Oh, that last one seems very telling. He's acknowledging his career can now be affected by his Twitter sperging. So, it seems Russ Pitt IS trying to keep Bob reigned in and has warned him in advanced to cool it.I

One of two things will happen in the next few weeks. Russ will either end up firing Bob, or at the VERY LEAST suspending him without pay as a "final warning," OR he will keep giving Bob toothless "warnings" that Bob will catch on has no consequences and will resume ranting all day long at full vitriol.
