Culture Man Reportedly Steals Plane From Seattle–Tacoma International Airport - Threatens to do barrel roll, more confirmation this is the best timeline

So right now in Seattle a man supposedly stole a plane from SeaTac International Airport, all flights in the area are grounded and air traffic control is in contact with him trying to teach him mid-flight how to land the plane. The most interesting part of this is the hijacker has been threatening to do a barrel roll.

A plume of smoke was reported near Ketron Island, Washington, after authorities received reports that a plane was stolen from Seattle Airport Friday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).

Petty Officer Ali Flockerzi said one of the USCG's 45-foot rescue boats was headed to the scene.

The island is between Tacoma and Olympia, she said.

It wasn't clear what kind of plane was involved or whether or not passengers were on board.

Alaska Airlines tweeted, "We are aware of an incident involving an unauthorized take-off of a Horizon Air Q400. We believe there are no passengers on board. More information as we learn more."

The stolen plane reports were received about 8:30 p.m. PDT, and the plume was reported about 15 minutes later, Flockerzi said.

Edit: two fighter jets might have shot the plane down.

For the longest time I thought suicide was inherently anything but badass. This story convinced me otherwise.

Rich is probably the only person I've heard of who ended up becoming both a hero and an hero at the exact same time (and he didn't have to take anyone else out with him like a bitch, to boot, so no foul play here). Enjoy your new wings, you crazy motherfucker.

And the best thing out of it is that on top of hurting no one, it was a great fuck you to the Jewfag airline CEOs. That's hopefully going to put a noticeable dent in the company's finances. What a madman.

Rich by name, Rich by nature (at least in his life experience for such a young guy).

He seemed like a cool guy, his last YouTube video shows clips of him working and also snippets of his travels across the world.

RIP Rich 'Beebo' Russell. Shine on you crazy diamond!

The recording later picks up a snippet in which the man says he doesn't want to hurt anyone.
Man: "Damn it ... people's lives are at stake here."
Controller: "Now ... don't say stuff like that."
Man: "No, I told you. I don't want to hurt no one. I just want you to whisper sweet nothings in my ear."

Confirmed kiwi
I listened to this ATC audio the night it was going down via a local TV coverage stream on YT.

I don't think the dude on the joyride said the lives are at stake portion.

If you listen to the audio closely, (I linked below video clip for that channel) you hear the ATC controller talking to someone else (2:09 to 2:21). I believe that is the fighter jet pilot. The controller says something like he is just flying around, may need help etc. Then a little bit later, (2:44 to 2:51) that exchange you quote happens.

If you listen to the intensity of the lives at stake part, it is hostile, aggressive and anger filled. The dude who got his semper fi wings though is just chilled and laid back on all other exchanges with ATC. And that was his reply to the fighter jock's comment, whisper sweet nothings in my ear. And the ATC, says something like "Parish" before don't say stuff like that. I know they use weird IDs for military stuff. Maybe pilot's handle, or the base name or whatever.

Anyway, have a listen and see if you agree. I am pretty sure I saw one news story where they also attribute that comment to Rich.

That is wrong and incorrect. Given this guy was obviously not going to dive bomb Seattle, and probably at some point wanted to land perhaps and get through this alive, I'd hate to see that comment which comes across as a threat in ways, be attributed to the man.

It sounds like he says "Andrew," to me anyway. I was chalking up my point as the "whisper sweet nothings in my ear."
Personally, I'd tell jokes to ATC.

"FUCK MAN IM SO SCREWED UP FROM WORKING AT THAT PESKY AIRPORT, I THINK I HAVE A TERMINAL ILLNESS."

Also, why is everyone freaking out about "HOW DID THIS COMMON MAN LEARN TO CONTROL AN AIRCRAFT??"
Has no one heard of x-plane? Theres a bunch of videos on how to fly this specific aircraft in xp11.
Maybe it's just me, but I've been fascinated with planes since I was a child, and I fucking love flying around in xp. Not a fan of commercial flying, but it's pretty rad to be able to come home from work and fly a 787 around the rockies for an hour or two while I get stoned.

Sure it's not the same as sitting in a cockpit, but if you master some key concepts I'd bet you could easily takeoff and cruise for a while in just about any aircraft.

Maybe /Our/Flyguy was doing a bit, like from a movie?

I guarantee ATC and the like were more trained with trying to stop a terrorist attack or hijacking than they were trying to talk down a mentally ill guy from suicide. That's why they were doing things like telling him how to land the plane and whatnot, they're trained more for situations where say, the captain of the plane is taken out and a random passenger has to help land the plane than a mentally ill man who sees he has nothing left to live for going on a joyride.

Fly in the sky Richy boy. Fly on.

Taking off is actually easy. Given sufficient speed, an aircraft naturally "wants" to lift off and more or less fly straight assuming calm conditions.

The landing is the hard part as it's much harder to control your descent and speed correctly at the same time while possibly fighting cross winds, poor visibility, etc etc etc. The only thing you can hit in the sky is other planes, on the ground, theres lots of stuff to hit.

That means, without proper training, things like this are inevitably one-way flights.

Ironically enough this in an of itself is a prime example of the sort of thing Sky King was upset about. Corporations and sneering middle management types going "lol you're just a working class peon which must mean you're poor and stupid, get thee hence peasant and know your place!"

So... The revolution will be filled with joyrides. If you guys ride with me I'm 80% certain I could at least not kill us on landing.
