I think Bobby has a problem actually getting emotionally involved in a film. He wants to hold films, his purported chief passion, at arms length, MST3K style, because he thinks it is supposed to be what an intelligent critic does. He does not understand that a good critic is supposed to be an audience advocate, and to be able to advocate for someone you need to get involved in the same way -- which often means emotionally -- as the people you set out to speak for. Bobby is crazy about Gardian of the Galaxy movies, but admits that he is so for idiosyncratic reasons: something something his dad and something something his early career. He does not relate his love of the films to what an average viewer might see in it.
Bobby can hate any number of thing with a passion, but he cannot love a thing unless he manages to entwine it with his personal history.
