How will Bob react to seeing the Mario film?

But if only the alt-right reads, who is the audience for Brick by Brick?
I suppose you're supposed to use it as a decoration to "prove" you're a smarty-person, not actually look at the contents. Think those people who buy some "progressive" story so they can pose next to it while doing the gapping mouth face for praise on twitter.

You saw Blobb at his sister’s wedding in Mexico, hunkered down at a table and bent over his phone tweeting about DRUMPF and BLACK PANTHER. His twitter persona is his identity, he’s been consumed by identity politics. GamerGate and Anita Sarkeesian broke his brain.
Even before that he was getting worse. Like many things with Bob, I think it might be Nintendo related. His religious vision, the failure of WiiU, the popularity of Call of Duty, the stereotype gamer going from "kids and nerds" to "dudebros and neckbeards". We saw how upset Bob got when they changed the Mario canon to them being native to the mushroom kingdom.

That's my bet. This is all a ploy to burn down the escapist for the insurance money. Or a scheme like the producers. And they're handing Bob a box of matches.
I think it's far simpler than that. I think The Escapist was trying to recapture the glory days, back when Zero Punctuation was just one of many shows and they would break stories like the general incompetence with Star Citizen. But instead of sticking to the principles that created those good times, they are trying to "get the band back together" despite most of them having moved on or left on bad terms.

I think that approach is what's making the left hate Bob so much. They are trying to because a strong political side again yet that have Bob making a embarrassment out of them.
I don't think the left ever liked Bob.

Even if we ignore his behaviour and general unpleasant personality. I'm far from the first to point out that were any of Bobs ideals for society ever to come to pass, be it feminism, communism, or whatever this weeks idea of the "superior future" is, Bob would first to sent off to the gulag. In social justice terms, he's a middle class straight cis white American male, and a fat "misogynerd" on top of that. While I doubt Bob will get #metoo'd, he did turn a blind eye when his friends were sexually assaulting women.

Bob was only tolerated because (at the time) he had a platform that he could preach social justice from. I don't think it's a complete coincidence that he never really hung out with Anita and co. since losing his job at The Escapist.

And going by what we're hearing it could also easily be re-reversed, so nana nana boo boo.

I’m surprised Blobbo hasn’t really acknowledged the Academy killing the “popular movie” category at the Oscars yet.

Is the last functioning brain cell in his head trying work out what his shit take will be? I’m guessing the “academy bended to white actors who didn’t want to see a black film win”.

I think that this ties in to Bob's desire to see genre fare be smugly self-aware of how stupid it is. Just look at his pitch for a Predator film: it features, in his own words, the titular hunter being depicted as the alien equivalent of a dipshit suburban weekend warrior. While it could potentially be a funny Comedy Central skit, it would completely destroy any sense of verisimilitude and gravitas that the franchise has if it were turned into a feature film.
I think Bobby has a problem actually getting emotionally involved in a film. He wants to hold films, his purported chief passion, at arms length, MST3K style, because he thinks it is supposed to be what an intelligent critic does. He does not understand that a good critic is supposed to be an audience advocate, and to be able to advocate for someone you need to get involved in the same way -- which often means emotionally -- as the people you set out to speak for. Bobby is crazy about Gardian of the Galaxy movies, but admits that he is so for idiosyncratic reasons: something something his dad and something something his early career. He does not relate his love of the films to what an average viewer might see in it.

Bobby can hate any number of thing with a passion, but he cannot love a thing unless he manages to entwine it with his personal history.

That’s like film criticism is a joke right now. They are more obsessed over what film aligns with their political agenda than if they align with their personal and emotional connections.

It would explain why he has such a hard-on for Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians. He believes that minorities cannot enjoy films unless they feel represented in them or reflect the "experiences," which is common among SocJus drones. Like I said, Bob is a very superficial person.

It's worse: their political agenda IS their personal and emotional connections. It's tied to their understanding of themselves as a "good person," therefor any contradiction of their political positions is felt as a personal attack.

This is not the Jim Sterling thread.
I was trying to lead into paraphrasing the note passed around during the movie:

We are so lucky to have MovieBob back at the Escapist.
Now we have the pleasure of hearing that tub of lard's hot takes all day long.
If I was him I'd walk my fat ass into oncoming traffic.

Come on, you know the other staff are passing that note around.

Yeah no, Burt Reynolds wasn’t “ironic exaggeration of his persona” he just was. This whole “it has to be some smug self aware movie to be good” is exactly what’s wrong with a lot of Hollywood B movies today.

Oh how dare we show Mexican gangs in a bad light. Seriously, we get a lot of “bad guys are British/some white guy in a business suit, why is it wrong for one bad guy to be Mexican?
