US "The Squad" Megathread - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib Derangement Syndrome

I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

Now she's hanging out with literal paid shills, literal corporate hacks, and literal Soros paid NGOs. Deray shills for corporate products on Twitter. Here's a thread of screenshots where he promotes McDonalds, Verizon, Doritos, Subway, many other brands.

Oh yeah, and sometimes his prominent critics end up dead. Look up Darren Seals. He showed that he worked with Soros NGOs at Ferguson and ended up actually bitch-slapping Deray.

And somehow ended up dead.
A Democrat hanging out with paid shills and corporate hacks? Ya don't say!

>Republicans are weak on national security

>doesn't want to enforce national boundaries

Really makes me thonk.

Apparently the incumbent she beat in the primary is going to run in the general election on behalf of some minor third party. It's pretty improbable, but it would be absolutely hilarious if the incumbent spoils the race and their Republican opponent swoops in and flips one of the Bluest districts in the country to Red.

To the Democrats, "weak on national security" is probably just a highly misleading euphemism for "averse to triggering full-scale thermonuclear war with Russia".

I didn't know Joe Lieberman was still alive.

why can't we rate things ""

she can shriek incoherently about wanting to impeach Trump, well, because, and no sere humano es ilegal clichéd nonsense, but she's absolutely terrified of saying shit Jews don't like, it's a shame; having a genuinely dissenting voice on the saying-things-Jews-don't-like question, even from the Left, would be refreshing, I mean a single one, beyond what, Jimmy Carter, but fuck, no, not even some 28yo qt 3.14 latina pre-packaged political action figurina, she has to be shabbos-goying it when pressed. dafuq. and really, there's nothing to see here, period, even on her economic proposals, it's just the regurgitated stuff that's been taking off in the past few years in city councils in places like San Francisco and what not, and will have absolutely fuckall of a consequence nationally, except as to show the total intellectual bankruptcy of the left.

to be fair, though, I haven't heard her say anything about trannies, and that's a major plus. $15/hr is one thing, an ideologically-mandated ontological vagina is quite another thing altogether

:late: but

Honestly, I want to see hardcore socialist policies fly in NY. The economy will scream so fucking hard it will crack the earth in two.
You think? The inmates running SF into the ground don't seem to be encountering very heavy opposition. I know the east coast is different though...

I'm mostly astounded by the turnout because allegedly the Democratic bases are supposed to be the most energized that they've ever been, judging by how routinely we keep hearing about the Blue Wave, but then even in deeply Democrat-oriented districts we're routinely seeing abnormally-low numbers in quite a few of the primaries, now. Granted, the turnout for primaries is very different from the turnout you see in the actual elections, but I'm still fascinated by just how low some of these are.

It's a stereotype so take that for what it's worth, but maybe it's because the voterbase is too busy yelling at people to get up and vote?

There was barely any voter turnout in her district this year, and she's actively, openly anti-ICE. I sincerely, genuinely hope that they keep pushing more and more of these young, know-nothing Communists and Socialists right to the top of the stack. It's perfect.

They want to lose that badly huh? you can always thank the glorious republic of venezuela for giving socialist a horrible reputation

The Far Left is doing a good job making fun of her.

It's not a very inspirational video at that. It's hard to follow along with what they are saying because the Salazar has a habit of stopping midsentence and searching for words, and they keep splicing in the Cortez audio and their voices sound very similar.
