Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

says she’s a freelance editor

I suppose that's one way of saying "unemployed."

Whales spend ridiculous amounts of money on properties they enjoy and it's why there is so much freemium/p2w/micro-transactions/loot boxes in the gaming sphere today.

Whales also talk to other customers and they're the kind of people other people ask about what's worth buying. Just mindlessly screeching NAZI NAZI NAZI isn't going to eliminate their influence.

:offtopic: They all seem to be in a hurry to reach Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future for some reason. And DS9 showed that problems still exist there because of how smug the Federation gets about things.

"It's easy to be a saint in Paradise but the Maquis do not LIVE in Paradise"
It's better living under the Empire of the original Star Wars Trilogy anyway. It's objectively better, with less pretensions.

This is probably why people like Meyer piss off the pros so much, they're proving that the whales are a tiny minority but have a lot of cash they're willing to drop. The average spend of people backing Meyer's Iron Sights and the Hannibal Graphic Novel was $50. On a single damn book!

That's ten issues worth of the shit they put out these days just going off to some dude who droned in his kitchen on the internet and then proceeded to put his money where his mouth was and successfully fund two well received graphic novels and is likely gearing up for his third.

That's what annoys them so much. All the connections in the world mean fuck all when a guy comes along with a superior product and knows how to speak whale. The fact he has any success infuriates them no end.

"Guyz, you totally need to have a high IQ to understand Rick and Morty! It's too subtle for the likes of you!"

To kind of "piss them off further". The Crowdfunded Comics have been banking about what the top selling monthly comics ship if all the comics were sold.

Unlike Marvel, said comics don't have the same overheads, you pay the four people who actually make the comic, the printer and then throw them in a box for UPS/FedEx/whoever.

Marvel in comparison has offices to pay, management, marketing, editors, editors in chief, yadda yadda yadda yadda and the UPS/FedEx Guy before you get to the writers and artists.

Basically Meyer's likely banked more over the two comics than several years these Pros have been paid, hence them calling it a scam.

Heather also thinks she’s the Queen of Comics.

Pretty sure she already got fired from that gaming/esports gambling gig. Her profile says she’s a freelance editor now & available to run peoples kickstarters for them.

Last I checked her LinkedIn page said she was still working for that gambling place tho

Thanks for more info, i was about to ask if it was @damian who started an info-rumour. BTW i like how she has put "has no merit" in the twitter headline herself. :story:
We've seen pro's struggle to make $20k crowdfunding, if these dudes launch at the right time they could easily have a joke go $50k+
I didn't cap it but the other day i saw a twitter dude show receipts of ~$25k spent on comics last year and testified that 4? friends spent roughly the same amount. They went on to say that this years spending was ~2k, mostly due to comic pro attitudes. Now maybe $25k is excessive, but if they enjoy the hobby and can afford it then good for them. Anti-CG attitude was to laugh at them... Laughed at ~$100,000 walking out the door, for NO reason at all. Whales spend ridiculous amounts of money on properties they enjoy and it's why there is so much freemium/p2w/micro-transactions/loot boxes in the gaming sphere today.

I’m what you might consider a lower/mid-range whale. I’ve got a dozen or so o4-figure books & have sold a 5-figure book. I probably spend in the vicinity of $5-10k/year? My buying this year tho has dropped down to maybe $1-2k/year because of the pro antics. I got into it with some troon indie weirdo saying “you’re replaceable” & I said “of course I am as a buyer. Not not my volume. You need 10-20 of the typical readers to make up for 1 of me” & she seemed to have a cognitive dissonance with grasping that those that buy volume still have a bigger impact than the kid buying $20/month in comics.
