You can find lots of talented people in Dallas, Atlanta, and Durham for a fraction of the cost. You have better places to spend your money. Unless the land itself is going to magically improve the quality of your software, then there’s no reason to put yourself in one of the most expensive locations in the western world.

If I remember correctly, the junction for the largest fiber optic trunks running north/south and east/west is near Des Moines, IA, yet no one takes advantage of that because, first, the business taxes are so damn high there, and second, when you think of Iowa you don't think about computer technology.

Even I don't think of Iowa has a hub of computer technology, and computers are my bread and butter.

Why even talk about RDR 2 if you're not gonna play it?

Bob is the ultimate example of someone who can dish it out but can’t take it. He gets super butthurt whenever someone criticises something he likes and goes into all-out attack mode, but sits around making petty, holier-than-thou remarks about something loads of people like which he’s admitted he’s never going to play and has no interest in.

He’s also jealous at the talent Rockstar Games has as their games have been consistently well-received by critics and gamers that makes them relevant these days, unlike his precious Nintendo.

But there’s two important things Bob hates about Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rockstar Games. One, Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t pandering to the woke crowd by having the protagonist be a Black Muslim transwoman who feels oppressed by society. Two, Rockstar never preach about politics, even when they do, they do in a satirical manner to bash BOTH sides. Plus, unlike certain companies these days, they know that preaching politics is bad for business.

the tagline of this thread actually kind of bugs me. somebody like bob wouldn't be allowed to exist in a proper fascist regime and that's a good thing.

whatever he's peddling is more like some kind of ultraliberal scientism where people who read rationalwiki and freethoughtblogs are put in charge

I liken Bob’s mentality on mature rated games and such to Dobson’s: blood, sex, gore and swearing are icky and shouldn’t be things “da heeeero” should be doing. Similarly, all games that aren’t heavily saturated and colorful all look the same (Dark Souls and Skyrim are comparable, right guys?) but all cartoony and vibrant games are unique (even if Nintendo reuses asset for every “New Super Mario Bros” game).

I’m making the argument of one against the other mind you, both sides here have value artistically and as games. What I’m saying is that someone who considers themselves a lover and/or critic of games should be able to see that value, and see what games (like Skyrim and Dark Souls) are simply using the trends of the era.

we are nearing 1700 pages and 40000 posts! I still think we should send a genuine gift to Bob to celebrate it...

While I have to be afk for a little bit, I'll say this:

IT'S HAPPENING!

I'm lost. It appears Bob believes Rockstar is going to get devoured by the shambling husk formerly known as games journalism, so now he's going to make a video about them, for clicks?

Well you know, the absolute Leviathan of a fanbase that made Grand Theft Auto V the single biggest-selling entertainment product of all time, and which has literally been licking its chops for years in anticipation of RDR2, is hanging on every word Film Crit Hulk farts out to decide whether or not they're going to buy it.

Probably should reread those tea leaves....

You know an easier route to retirement?

Getting an actual stable job.

What's going on?
He's probably doing something vidya related for The Escapist.

Now, consider the inherent autism of the vidya community, combined with his antagonism towards said community and the fact that vidya seems to inspire his most exceptional takes.

In other words, get the  ready.
