Let Phil serve as a cautionary tale for anyone who wishes they could turn a hobby into a job. He’s literally trapped himself in his “office” for the rest of his life to “play” games that he no longer enjoys. His perception of life has become so warped by this experience that he considers a pet cat to be a luxury item (yet manages to buy every video game), an 8-hour-a-day “job” to be too onerous to allow for any leisure activities, grocery shopping to be strenuous exercise, $100k / year with two houses and a brand new car to be broke, it normal for a live-in partner to contribute nothing to the bills, and his 60-year-old parents to be as good as dead. As Phil says, some things are more important than money.
...But this is all stuff he did to himself. Look at how many other big streamers there are who appear to genuinely enjoy what they do -- I'm thinking of people like timthetatman, couragejd, and even ninja. You can like or dislike them, but when I've stopped in on any of their streams, they're usually cracking jokes and having fun. Obviously the amount of money they make helps, but even doing what they do as a job, they seem to enjoy the shit out of it. Of course, they actively seek out friends and have personal lives, and they all appear to have parlayed their stream success into outside ventures as well, something Phil never bothered to do.
There's also the fact that by simply cutting down on his expenses, Phil could easily pull himself out of this hole he's in. But he's simply unwilling to make any real effort to do so. Aside from (allegedly) swapping PSVue for Hulu, can anyone name literally a single thing he's done to reduce his costs? I can't think of any.
Don't you know? Cats are too expensive for poor destitute Phil to have. And he doesn't have time to take care of one anyway, ya know? *SNORT* Kats, apparently, aren't.
Intensity, despite him admitting he gets paid by the 15th if I read the posts correctly. He's been really greedy lately; More than usual.
Either that or he was a mong and found out he overdrafted or is in trouble with the taxmen again.
Yeah, he's been pushing tips
hard for a couple of weeks. He did claim he overdrew yesterday and won't be getting paid until the 15th. It worked to some extent as he got around $200 in tips last night (granted, including a $100 tip), but if he actually had a "big bill" due, $200 won't cover it. Basically, Phil is just shit with money as usual.
