Fallout 76 General Thread - Bethesda does it again!

CDprojekt Red and the Witcher 3 stole a ton of Fallout 4's thunder and Cyberpunk 2077 looks like it's the type of game that will heavily appeal to Fallout fans. Bethesda doesn't handle competition well so that's bad enough on it's own but if Obsidian's The Outer Worlds does well enough to spawn sequels I think fallout is pretty much done as a franchise. Bethesda will probably limp along for a few more years off the back of The Elder scrolls until their greed forces them to fuck over those fans too.

What an absolute shit show. I really don't believe that Bethesda can be this out of touch with whats going on and keep digging their grave even further, I wonder if someone is intentionally trying to bring the company down. Call me crazy but at this point they've turned into a comic relief character for a cartoon.

In a previous life, I may or may not have had a hand in world design and geometry building.

This shit is just inexcusable to me - No effort to cleanly resolve the geometry. How does something so lazy and obvious get by ?

I mean, any level designer with a modicum of self respect just doesn't do this sort of stuff.

That geometry like this makes it into a shipping game - some designer creating this area thought "Meh. Good enough" - some manager overlooked this work and said "Meh, looks good to me". Quality Control and Play Testing must have flagged it as bad geometry, and management's response must have been "Nah, it's good enough." - These are very deep systemic problems, that a product ships like this.

People that buy AAA games are used to slipping standards. Hopefully the quality of Red Dead changes that.

Of course, most of the people that buy these games only play them for 4 hours and drop them.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the "Lunchbox" data that was mined from the recent update. The shit is all tagged with the Atom Store's "ATX" prefix code which seems to indicate that they WILL be selling advantages for money. They might not, but honestly I don't see why they wouldn't.

I suppose $60 games being the shells for roulette machine cosmetic purchases is becoming the industry standard after all

I hope Bethesda lose so much money over Fallout 76, they have to sell it to Obsidian.
I like that their own satellite companies were dogging them over it too, as were their own employees.

Seriously, thanks to Bethesda's ineptitude with 76, their utter hatred and refusal to follow lore, and refusal to revise the Gamebryo engine some more or even make a new one for their upcoming games, I am not buying anything from them without a good look at the player's experiences. They got away with releasing buggy shit they refuse to fix by dint of story and a dedicated modder base that'd fix their own garbage coding; this demolished that aegis except for the brand fantards that will act like Corp-Sec for Bethesda.

Ahahahahahahah, how can they keep doing this? They just. keep. fucking. up. Bethesda can clearly no longer make games without the support of modders. They burned all of their good will with one fucking game. That's all it took. Holy shit. Fuck Bethesda.

Anyway, what are the chances of Outer Worlds being a good successor? I'm seeing more talk about it, and honestly it looks okay, but I just can't see it as a proper Fallout successor. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I prefer my nuclear wasteland world and would've loved to have seen more of the world of Fallout before Bethesda fucked everything up with 4 and especially 76. However Outer Worlds is definitely the replacement for shit like Borderlands I've been waiting for.

The Outer Worlds looks closer to Bioshock (i.e. more linear) than Fallout/TES so far. I don't consider Borderlands a replacement to Fallout either because it's about gathering loot, not roleplaying.

If however TOW ends up following Fallout's basic design pattern, Bethesda should be concerned. There's a huge market for "Bethesda RPG except it's not Bethesda" and nobody's been able to tap it... yet. BioWare came close in their heyday but it still wasn't the same.

Like a wise man said: It's like puking on a pile of shit!

NO WAY!

NO FUCKING WAY!

I can't believe even Bethesda would be this stupid, I just can't! How can anyone think that lootboxes are a solution to the many, MANY problems they already have?

This is just incredible!

The Fallout 4 audience seems to love em so this will probably work.

I've seen tonnes of people with blue Power Armor (18 USD) while watching Fo76 so this game probably has distilled its audience down to retarded whales.
