Does Diamond still do that buyback thing they used to for comics that didn't sell, and if that still happens are the shipped numbers updated after the fact?
Not in Canada at the very least, it stays out until it's sold, or put in the bins to be forgotten. Only time shipped numbers are updated now (sort of) is when there are reorders. Reissues are also different from reorders from what I can see.

I should mention that yes, you can send back stuff but Diamond makes it difficult and not worth the hassle hence why comic shops keep so much garbage.

December Numbers are in, oh boy she must have promised to suck off an entire Comic-Con's worth of soyboys:

Watch as this number drops by over 60% by the 2nd issue.

The comics industry is currently in a "Post-Sales" era. Basically, a book that sells (ships) below the supposed minimum number of orders required will continue because of reasons not tied to how well they sell or how popular they are. As long as the book exists for political or personal reasons it is forced onto the market at the expense of the comic shops.

Good links, and I'm honestly surprised it hit 5 figures.
The more important stat imho, out of all books that had first issue hers sits at 25th.
It's a robust list of #1 issues, while Marvel has the lion's share there's representation by Image, DC, IDW. Even with DC alone, it was 5th place for a #1, and the comparison with units moved for all the books above hers are informative.

It should actually be 17, 470, but I have to admit it, I bought the variant cover at my LCS.
It's an oddity and a novelty, and my guys would eventually be saddled with the overstock anyways.

Yes they do but it’s rare. For example all issues of Bendis' Man of Steel had some returns.

They compensate by taking 10% off the original number. There isnt a specific number.

In a small defense to Zoe and her work it appears the difference between 25 and wherever she ended up isn't very big.

I don't think it really says anything about goddess mode but rather how limited the comic market really is.

It does reinforce the theory that Zoe is running out of people to scam when this is the best industry she can latch onto. Maybe this time next year she'll be making chariot harnesses

If any one wants to know, there's about 5 issues of Zoe's comic in every single comic book store. However, not every one of them ordered it and comic book stores with online stores will order more in the hopes that they'll sell. So you're looking at some stores having more than others.
Ha, only 5 copies of Goddess mode how unwoke are the shops you visit bigot? Here's WOKE

Not defending Zoe, but those aren't all Goddess Mode. Edit, ah there's also variant covers not being sold.

Also the guy stated in that thread that his shop tends to order a lot more comics than what they need.

Also under a BOGO sign...That doesn't sound good for her career in comics.

Something seems off about that. It would be very stupid to buy 50 copies of that book unless they were unclaimed special orders?

I’d think most shops got 5-10 copies. Some people claim it sold out at there lcs but I also doubt that too. Anyway, we’ll see next month for Jan/#2 sales.

As I said, apparently that comic book store buys excess comic and that's why issue #1 was thrown onto the BOGO rack. If they've been around for twenty years like the poster said in that thread I'm amazed they're still around. They're also looking forward to issue #3

There's variant covers for Goddess Mode? Holy fuck they really will variant cover anything.

Absolutely anything. Uncle Scrooge reprint books for kids have artificially rare variant covers.

In general, if you're not familiar with the details already, we could be here all day explaining the ass-backwards economics of the comic book industry.

I'm familiar with the details/complaints but I'm just blown away that it's so systemic all the way down to fucking Goddess Mode. There isn't much more bottom of the barrel you can get.

Also the guy stated in that thread that his shop tends to order a lot more comics than what they need.

In the comicsgate thread people were talking about publishers sending more copies than were ordered as "free promotional copies" in order to boost sales numbers which is why stores had dozens of unsold issues of gay iceman. It wouldn't surprise me to see that happening here as well.
