I heard they have ridiculous tax rates.
That's what I've heard others point out before. About the only reason CA can afford it's stupid tax rates is because the weather and view there is SOOO good, people will tolerate those rates to stay.

Try applying those rates to a place like Nevada or Wyoming, and say goodbye to your tax base.

(though some parts of CA suck anyway and are dying also - hence the "please split it up already" movement)

Also notice how Bob never goes over any of the bad parts. Like the homeless and shit-covered streets in San Francisco.

Then why don’t you move there?

"These people really do live in another reality. What nebulous concept of "California" am I supposed to be afraid of, exactly?"

An out of control cost of living? Getting murdered by an illegal immigrant or gang member? Massive natural disasters that happen on a regular basis? Human shit and needles littered on the streets? A crumbling infrastructure that will eventually collapse?

I love how you can see the green from his painted wall radiating off of the edge of him.

Having worked in actual, professional video production, Bob's complete ineptitude in how to chroma properly physically damages my psyche.

Like... you don't fucking point/spot light your key wall otherwise it looks like that monstrosity, you need bounce lighting to reduce reflective bleed, you need proper light color temps for the wall you're shooting on (For example: You wouldn't use a 'red' temp light in human based chroma situations because of the blue/green that is typically used, for grey it's less of an issue. In this case I can assure you he's probably using a basic goosenecked lamp with an incandescent bulb to light that shit). Zebra striping in your camera's viewfinder is a must to see where the shadows land and you remove those with even more bounce lighting. And while this doesn't pertain to lighting, this is probably the most important piece of information I can impart onto anyone looking into getting into filming/video editing: You don't wear reflective surfaces in close ups otherwise people are going to see the unkempt mess that is your disgusting basement apartment. (NOTE: If you do need to wear glasses and will need to do a closeup/read off a TelePrompTer for whatever reason, make sure you pay attention to proper blocking, for instance, you can shoot wide from slightly above and correct the frame in post. Do not wear lensless glasses with contacts, otherwise it's gonna be fake as fuck.)

VDH for the win every time.

Also, did Nutsack just make a dumbass joke about the Chinese takeout? As if San Francisco wasn't famous for having one of the most thriving Chinatowns this side of Asia?

Also also, good luck with your desert paradise when Nevada shuts off the spigot from Lake Mead. That's gonna be ugly.

That’s why in Reno there’s a lot of people moving in from California.

I don't get that either. Is that meant to be some sort of joke? Like did Bob eat poor Chinese food when he was at SDCC and is basing it off of that?

Unless the people making it aren't Chinese, I doubt Chinese food would be that bad anywhere in the US.

He means inferior compared to the real Chinese food you would get in China. You know cause Bob has totally been to china since he's such a cultured and well traveled intellectual.

The Chinese takeout gibe is a Massachusetts thing. A lot of MA Chinese joints were started by people from Canton and they took their dishes and took influence from the surrounding area. As a result, when you talk about Chinese food to a masshole, they are envisioning something you probably haven't seen before. Rice as brown as dirt. Fried chicken fingers. Chow mein, chop suey, chow yoke, subgum, lobster sauce - all sorts of weird, salty stuff.

Outsiders grow to like it, unless they are from CA or NY and they've had the authentic experience.

But the thing to take away is that massholes believe not having Boston Chinese as an option is a major flaw for any region.

Having spent years with close Chinese friends and co-workers, fresh off the boat as you might say, their views on American Chinese food tends to be mixed. Yeah it isn't exactly the same as in China. But Holy Crap is the meat 1000x better and more plentiful than anything they ever had to gnaw through back in China.

Like, where the FUCK does he think Chinese takeout started?
Bob probably doesn’t even know that in the 1800’s, Chinese immigration to California(at a time when we had open borders with China) was deemed so rampant that it became the only state in American history to ban a country’s people from immigrating. Yet it’s Mexicans that are threatened by a wall.

And I’m from California, our Asian food is always good, better than New York’s in lots of ways. We have Asian families immigrating and starting restaurants all the god damn time while their children become doctors or pharmacists and what not.

But seriously, I’ve never got the argument of “this culture’s food will never be as good outside of their country!”
Especially in regards to Asian and Latin American countries. We have more resources and more health standards on top of better infrastructure for a chef. American made Mexican food made using the ideas from tradition Mexican food is definitely better than anything you will find outside of a resort in Mexico, and resorts are serving the same thing anyway.
Panda Express and Taco Bell are not what anyone considered Mexican or Chinese food. They’re just cheap and fast.

I think it boils down to "Euro-America Bad, Non-Euro-America Good!" It doesn't matter what kind of problems a non Euro-American country has- just the fact that it is not inhabited primarily by white people means it is inherently superior to Europe and America, facts to the contrary be damned.
