Apex Legends - "Titanfall 3? No. Here, get a Battle Royale instead."

My favourite part of this is how blatantly obvious this is an EA project through and through. Built dirt cheap, ticks every BR box by having the Gay characters to push the Overwatch crowd towards it, cute taunts to nab the Fortniters and realistic graphics to pull in the remains of the PUBG crowd.

Because they know how badly the EA brand has been tainted and its fucked with the stock prices they've also sent marketing people into Respawn to handle the press side of things and pretend it's definitely not an EA project and pretend Daddy Corporate is not involved in the world's most obvious fucking box tick exercise.

Just like back in the day with Bioware too, nearly all discussion is being handled by the PR people and the studio head folks. Remember when they did that for Mass Effect 2 and 3 despite the fact the gameplay was cut to the bone on EA's insistence?

I've just seen a bunch of fanboys pretend to be tone deaf to the fact that Respawn has made the same statement as Bioware and EA Corporate did on Anthem, that they want these games to still be played heavily in ten years time.

The fact that it's working for these guys is what annoys me the most, EA deserves to burn but they still have enough talented slaves on hand to put out the good games right when the crisis point hits hard.
What annoys me is the "Fortnite killer" meme I see being thrown around by streamers who ironically got their success from Fortnite. Fortnite is just another gimmicky game in the genre it's like saying some random Roblox clone of Fortnite will "kill" Fortnite. There's enough space in the bucket of shit for more shit the be poured into it. Apex doesn't do much of anything besides the exaggerated movement which feels nice to control. Titanfall's gunplay was already compared to the CoDs of that time but the game itself is fine why it needed to be a Battle Royale is no other reason than to milk an already dry cow and begin to whore loot boxes for people desperate to want to keep the narrative that it will "kill" Fortnite. Thing about these games is that they won't be played as much in the future because they are traffic based and if the playerbase gets bored because their are a tone of Battle Royales already they will be less and less potent.

Hook line and sinker.

My shakey, autistic hands can contribute something thanks to the healing class and ping system, that's something.

Character customisation is awful though. Just recolours and a couple of eye patches.

Fortnite isn't going to get toppled by another Battle Royale, not when it's the prime 12 year old kid game. Hell, Minecraft still gets 70+ million players a month.

I don't know, does anyone still play PUBG anymore despite the initial success? Maybe some, but no one's talking about it anymore, and I believe that's what may happen to Fortnite, one year of success before they move on to Apex Legends. These Battle Royale games seem much more like the survival games like Rust, Ark, and DayZ, where once something new comes along that does it better everyone moves to that, rather than Minecraft where it has a foundation of years of people playing it to a point where they won't move on to the next flavor of the month block building game.

The fact that it's working for these guys is what annoys me the most, EA deserves to burn but they still have enough talented slaves on hand to put out the good games right when the crisis point hits hard.

Give it time. Respawn's talent will be gutted by EA as soon as they get to the point where people will buy a game with Respawn's name alone.

Streamers will move to whatever the big fad is, but there's a ton of money in pandering to what the 12 year olds like.

They aren't going to topple it, just take a share of the Battle Royal market.

EA will probably fuck it up so it will probably never surpass fortnite.

EA is like a dog with a squeaky toy. Once they realise what they've been given they'll tear it apart to find out much they can wring out of it.

The game has a loot box system so that's only a matter of time. It's early so they're probably brain storming ideas to screw people over but the customization/cosmetics in this game is the most worthless system I've ever seen in any game of this caliber.

I consider it just as likely they'll start dumbing down the gameplay to attract more casuals and children.

As a person who played Titanfall 2 the game play feels less than that game probably because movement gadgets were removed and obviously no Titans. Weirdly enough taking the Titans away makes the game more generic feeling considering it's very hard not to make the CoD comparisons with how characters move (The other gods less than the current one). It's very casualized but I think it's more because you are forced to currently play in squads which means you will have players who can do most of the work on their own. I can't wait for Solos because then that's where the true crying about how the game is played comes from when you can't have two other people with you or in duos were you are more inclined to actually pull weight.

Yeah, none of the battle royales are replacements of each other. Each game has its own little niche that accommodates a certain segment of the market.

PubG: Vanilla Battle Royale. No gimmicks, nothing stupid. Just straight action.
Fortnite: Minecraft-themed Battle Royale. Build shit to win. Only one of the battle royales with a design aesthetic.
Apex Legends: Class- and Squad-based Battle Royale. Hero powers add depth to the BR formula, but two classes are locked behind a paywall, so its pay-2-win from Day One. Also, a bad time for people who just want to play solo.

I wasn't terribly impressed with Fortnite on release, but I had more fun with the ten games of Fortnite I played than the five I played of Apex Legends before uninstalling it.

I mean one of the heroes can literally call in an air strike so for Squads I can see the snoddy hero shooter/MOBA attitude of "must pick" characters as soon as the game gets its steady footing.

In terms of the Fornite killer thing it's a dumb thing I see people and streamers say. Black Out was supposed to kill Fortnite but everyone who I've seen played Black Out almost all went back to play Fortnite at least for a few streams. Thing is nothing will kill the game that is the go to BR for a quick set of money and attention.

Lmao, Valentine cosmetics are out. Thirty dollars in total for a couple of jpegs - no big deal, completely optional, etc.

They cost 1100 of the shop currency, minimum purchase is 1000.

There you are, EA.
In a scummy way it makes sense. A lot of these free games have to make money in one way or another so the incentive is to buy skins in order to make the character look slightly different. I think I said this before but there is a way to do this like still making the character look like the character but the skin changes the aesthetic and grants a different voice line or something. The way Apex does it is rather lazy.

Oh sure I get the logic behind it, it the pricing is spiteful. You can't afford any of the seasonal items with the first tier purchase, and the second tier still leaves you short by 50 points. You have to buy the third tier to get all of the items, and even the major one (the banner) only applies to a single character.

It's stupid, pathetic, and I know whales are going to lap it up and encourage this shit.
