Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Hey, so here's a theory I haven't heard anyone suggest yet after skimming through the thread. As we've theorized previously, this all started mainly because Vic wouldn't sign fujoshi's yaoi fan art in the mid 2000s, and they got angry about it. At the time, it was seen as a personal offense, but nowadays its twisted into all sorts of political narratives.

The running explanation is that Vic wouldn't sign non-canon fanart, but I think that's what Vic just told everyone. Do I think Vic is homophobic? Maybe at some point, but I'm willing to take him on his word he supports the LGBT community. The reason he wouldn't sign yaoi fanart is simple: his most popular character is a fifteen year old boy, usually shipped with either an adult or his own brother. Of course Vic wouldn't want to put his name on that kind of crap. If he did, people would probably use it against him now as evidence. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Specifically, Sabat owns OkraTron 5000, which is the actual physical dubbing studio Funimation uses.

This, BTW, is what they refer to in systems engineering as a Single Point of Failure (SPOF). If you have one guy on the payroll, who isn't an owner, and he is that indispensable, you're doing something seriously fucking wrong. I'm hoping somebody at Sony takes note of this, even though they are pretty exceptional. I can't imagine a multi-billion dollar multi-national corporation wants one of their divisions held hostage buy one small business owner in Texas.

The fact someone at Funi hasn't scraped together some sort of small recording studio by now shows how stupid the company is. Especially when some fuckwit can squeeze you by the balls by it.

I know at least two relatively newish startups in gaming who made sure they had a mini-recording studio before they even started production because it's cheaper long term to have small space to handle re-records than constantly using a big place.

It's like if lolcow.farm and the Farms had a baby, but the baby turned out exceptional.

PULL is lolcows, lolcows all the way down I tells ya!

I'd say that about many companies but Sony is what you get when you take nearly infinite amounts of stupidity and compress them until they fit inside an office building and no intelligence can escape the singularity.

Well, there's an rumor going around that Sony might even shutter Funimation and transfer everything anime related into Aniplex. They're definitely looking to cut some of the fat out of the company. I mean, SCEA is one of the few US divisions that it actually worth a shit (thanks to Playstation).

But Aniplex doesn't have their own dubbing studio either, so there is a vulnerability they need to take care of either way.

Which is totally plausible considering he did a audiobook of a gay wherewolf story and signed a gay pride flag.

People being pissed off because he won't sign Shadman level fan art is exceptional.

So why did they want Vic framed for serial rape exactly? I know that one bitch who accused his fans of swatting her said he was a douche in general but even those mundane allegations sound like over the top lies.

1. He's a devote Christian/conservative which makes him a threat to their attempt to turn the anime industry into their own personal playground where only members of the SJW Mafia get work in said industry.

2. The recent Dragon Ball Super film made huge money and Vic has the lead role as the main villain. And besides making money residual-wise off of that, if and when Toei relaunches Dragon Ball with a new show, they will most likely redo the new film as a 13 episode extended arc for said new series with Broly being a new major figure on the show. Which means that Vic would be a permanent part of the cast, which would piss off people who work at Funimation who most likely want the Broly role themselves.

To me it seems like a culmination of reasons that everyone went for Vic. Such as: his christian beliefs; being loved by the community; preferential treatment; gossip; hiding actual harassers that were in the spotlight until Vic's accusations came up; slots given at cons to speak about his faith; his looks; available business propositions if Vic is kicked; and so on and so forth.

Everyone jumped into the game of telephone (Twitter Edition) and now everyone involved is about to be winning their prize

If I had to fancy a guess, based on my previous experiences from the Autism Holy War, it's because narrative trumps everything. You gotta remember, these speds don't live in reality, and they really don't like reality reminding them that their ideals are about as grounded in reality as Scientology. Because of that, narrative is tantamount to a religion to these asshats. It's for the sake of narrative that they hoax crimes, it's for the sake of narrative they claim outright horse-shit is legit, and it's for the sake of narrative that they embark on these retarded crusades in the first place. Everything - everything for them is a full-on Autism war and in the name of the objective (which rarely can they define), the ends justify the means.

Back when Gamergate was in full swing, it wasn't enough that GG opponents had full support of the press, social media platforms, and could go before Congress and the UN, they had to try to bury any and all resistance. They had to actively hunt down and try to exterminate pockets of resistance, which is why they went after 8chan, tried to shut down various pro-GG platforms and had to manufacture scandals from whole cloth half the time (see: Dan Olson), claim random trolls were legit threats (Wu in general), or flat-out hoax crimes (USU Sarkeesian Hoax) to get evidence to back their claims. The mere prospect that someone could have the gall to ask for proof (which they could never provide beyond the most token of shit like people calling them names on Twitter) was enough to get them to plot and scheme and attempt to get entire platforms shut down.

Comicsgate saw similar. The speds in the opposition had de jour control of the entire fucking official medium, and the sales figures were showing that. First, they attacked their customers for daring to voice disagreement with their diversity-at-gunpoint horse-shit, then they attacked those same customers again when those customers voted with their wallets en masse. So how did these assholes when the customers they spend about two years shitting on decided to not only fuck off, but make their own comics? They lost their shit, tried to shut it down, hoaxed more crimes (comics store break-in hoax), and in Mark Waid's case, conducted tortious interference to keep Jawbreakers from coming out.

The big problem (for them) is that as time's gone on, their narrative has had less and less penetration with the people it needs to, and the links in the chain needed to keep it going are starting to fail. Not only are the big platforms less likely to bail them out (since they have more eyes on them than ever before, so it's bad optics), but they can't just make a shitstorm and get all the major outlets cover it anymore since all the big clickbait outlets laid off their workforces. The common user on the internet is also sick to death of this shit and wants this ideology to fucking die already.

I think they expected that their connections to powerful people would keep them safe, and the fact that, historically, they've gotten away with pissing off their customerbase previously made them arrogant. They didn't just want Vic deplatformed; they wanted him destroyed. The simple fact that anyone could defy them in any way was enough to make them apoplectic, and even though Vic himself had minimal real involvement with the shitstorm beyond a press release, the fact that his supporters had the balls to point out the lies was enough. They fell back on the old tactics: hoaxing crimes, using the words of trolls to shore up their "I'M SO HARASSED!!" defense, and trying to leverage everything they could to sustain the narrative, but the framework isn't there anymore, and there's too many people who've seen this shit too many times now actively covering the chaos.

Steve and Vic are supposedly close friends, but both Steve and his wife Mary Elizabeth McGlynn have retweeted #KickVic stuff and we have all seen how Vic's other "friends" have responded to this mess,so...
Can't wait until they get in the lawsuit too. lol

If those rumors are true, then what would that mean for the DB dubs? I mean Super would be complete by now, but I mean in the future. Would they bring them back? Or figure this be the perfect time to do a full recast?

Since I'm just catching up from yesterday and watching that stream, does anybody have a list of every con Vic had an appearance canceled at? I'm curious.

anime's been watched like a hawk since Gamergate, so the forces of good were waiting for the SJWs to go full evil since we knew they were just waiting for the right moment to strike with something like what they did to Vic.

This has been said about 8 billion times but the reason Gamergate was mostly impervious to the sjw shitstains and their playbook was because name calling has no affect on a faceless mass of pissed internet users looking to fuck you in the ass.

Plus people that play alot of video games have alteast some overlap with weebs.

Everyone knew for a long time that the Far lefties in the anime community had been sitting on their hands since GG happened because they knew they would get their heads handed back to them. So as an alternative they have been working silently in the back gathering up as many of their types in high ranking positions in the dub and con scene as possible with only small hints of their existence seeping out as the result of politicized localization's of certain shows. It feels like they have blown their opening shot with incredibly flimsy evidence against a majorly loved VA and now they have no idea what to do next.

I predict the flailing will not only continue but get much worse when the legal pole starts it's long journey up all their asses.

Here's the thing though, in Gamergate the target was a mass of faceless anons. Not exactly something for legal action. This time they targeted an individual with potentially false information to inflict financial damages. Which is one of the main things the legal system is supposed to prevent. So it's an entirely different type of conflict with entirely different consequences. Ones that I doubt any of the incredible individuals pushing this thought of. It's one of the reasons I like Weeb Wars more than AnimeGate.

What I would give to be a fly on the wall when these professionals learn about their potential liability.

Funimation has had Dragonball this whole time because Fukunaga's uncle is a producer for Toei Japan (Fukunaga was actually born in Japan, but grew up in the US). If Sony shuts down Funimation, localization rights would go back on the open market.

Alternatively, they could just move Fukunaga over to Aniplex (or wherever), along with some other consolidation, and drop the dead weight.

As for the dubbing. Funimation didn't always dub it themselves. They just handled the rights and marketing in he US. Before this collection of misfits, Funimation had Ocean do the DBZ dub.

I am of the opinion that Fukanaga has a gun pointed at his head by the circus freaks over there. Things like Sabat actually owning a critical piece of the infrastructure suggests it. It's a bit much for me to believe that a guy who is good buddies with Rick Sanatorum, and co-owns a Christian film studio, suddenly became woke. He's like EvilLore in the sense that he let the inmates run the asylum, but NOT in the sense that he encouraged it. He's also kinda screwed in that he doesn't actually own anywhere close to a majority of the company anymore.

Oh, perfect. I'm glad to see my local con didn't schedule him this year so I didn't have to feel inevitable disappointment in the staff.

Vic's still going to a local con near me.
Well fuck, looks like I know what I'm doing.

What I find insane is that they think this will fly.

Let's assume for a moment that, impossibly, Nick is absolutely wrong about everything. The KickVic crowd wins, and somehow, Rial and Marchi come out on top. What the fuck is their next step? They've already established they hate their audience. Do they think there won't be blastback? Do they think that everyone will just stop hating them for what they've done, and just ignore what they were provably involved in?

Do they think that the Japanese teams won't just completely pull their shit from Funimation when it gets back to them that their staff is now completely in the grip of complete maniacs? Fucking Capcom went off-union for less than this shit. Do like likes of Sabat and Schemmel just think that they won't get #MeToo'd the same way when they outlive their utility? Do they think that the company can afford to just let its entire staff to be beholden to the whims of absolute crazy people before Sony just fires them all?

I think they should be saving up for their defense instead.

How much do you want to bet that they know they're gonna get reamed either way but they get to screech about "muh straight cis white male christian dudebro oppression in drumpf's amerikkka"

Also, chances of any msm coverage like gamergate? I could totally see another ridiculous SVU episode out of this
