Gamergate has lived longer than necessary. To me it accomplished exactly what was needed and that showed the problem with our media. Things like brianna wu and hotwheels went on one of the news shows(cannot remember if it was nbc, cnn, or abc) with the host being extremely bias, and then followed by wu going on any news segment that would give em the time of day complaining about misogyny, promoting revolution360, and horribly explaining what a complier is.
Anyways the bias was becoming more and more notable as other news outlets began this too. Even reddit began banning anything proGG outside of a few boards(while letting anything antiGG stay). Anyways I think Gamergate was only suppose to be a stepping stone towards a bigger problem. Many regular folks now see the problem here, but there are those who cannot let go of the past or that efame they got from GG(whether pro or anti) and desperately hold on to it, or even recreating it.
You had people wanting to be leaders or faces of GG, even though it was suppose to be a faceless unorganized thing to prevent corruption. People were using it to make money off it, hell I even noticed that people were trying to censor others. I made a comrade joke and was told it was problematic language and I was friendly firing. People were asking others to virtue signal for them on twitter. It really just got to the point where people were acting just like the opponents. Maybe not AS BAD, but I just began fading away from the whole thing anyways. I had felt the whole thing succeeded in what it was set out to do and that was helping make people aware of issues involving media. Odd that it started with gaming and high school journalism, but it started somewheres at least.
Now it seems to be what OP here has explained it to be. It was maybe necessary for the first 6 months(that might be a stretch), but really it seems like the potency it once had is long gone. It is a shell used by people who cannot move on from either group.
With help from Foldable Human, aka Dan Olson, aka the leftist psychopath that tried to frame 8chan for childporn by uploading some himself, got found out and lost his journalism shill gig because of it.
It has been awhile so I cannot remember, but was this the guy that lived in canada that posted loli and tried getting 8chan shut down, but only to backfire on him because he posted it and laws in canada apparently treat it as cp? I could have sworn something like that had happened, but it has been almost 5 years and I stopped paying any real attention to GG around november or december of 2014.
Or was this actual CP?
sorry for double posting
