Isn't Apex Legends already pretty woke to begin with?
I recall journos were making hay a couple weeks ago about the fact that so few of the characters are STRAIGHT WHITE MALES, but from what I've seen of it it's not consciously woke. (Haven't played it myself due to potato computer.)

More importantly, I have heard it's bad and not fun.
Really? I can't recall hearing much bad about it, and it certainly looks like fun going by Twitch streams and such. They basically took the team-based BR formula, added features to improve team communication like being able to mark where a weapon a teammate might need is or where you saw an enemy peeking out, and also made it possible to respawn dead teammates so even if you get killed off early in a round, you don't just have to sit on your hands while your team finishes the round without you. I'd love to be able to give it a go some time with some buddies.

And here is SpaceDoctorPhD's article about the connections of the New Zealand mass shooting to GamerGate and 8chan.

With help from Foldable Human, aka Dan Olson, aka the leftist psychopath that tried to frame 8chan for childporn by uploading some himself, got found out and lost his journalism shill gig because of it.

Gamergate has lived longer than necessary. To me it accomplished exactly what was needed and that showed the problem with our media. Things like brianna wu and hotwheels went on one of the news shows(cannot remember if it was nbc, cnn, or abc) with the host being extremely bias, and then followed by wu going on any news segment that would give em the time of day complaining about misogyny, promoting revolution360, and horribly explaining what a complier is.

Anyways the bias was becoming more and more notable as other news outlets began this too. Even reddit began banning anything proGG outside of a few boards(while letting anything antiGG stay). Anyways I think Gamergate was only suppose to be a stepping stone towards a bigger problem. Many regular folks now see the problem here, but there are those who cannot let go of the past or that efame they got from GG(whether pro or anti) and desperately hold on to it, or even recreating it.

You had people wanting to be leaders or faces of GG, even though it was suppose to be a faceless unorganized thing to prevent corruption. People were using it to make money off it, hell I even noticed that people were trying to censor others. I made a comrade joke and was told it was problematic language and I was friendly firing. People were asking others to virtue signal for them on twitter. It really just got to the point where people were acting just like the opponents. Maybe not AS BAD, but I just began fading away from the whole thing anyways. I had felt the whole thing succeeded in what it was set out to do and that was helping make people aware of issues involving media. Odd that it started with gaming and high school journalism, but it started somewheres at least.

Now it seems to be what OP here has explained it to be. It was maybe necessary for the first 6 months(that might be a stretch), but really it seems like the potency it once had is long gone. It is a shell used by people who cannot move on from either group.

It has been awhile so I cannot remember, but was this the guy that lived in canada that posted loli and tried getting 8chan shut down, but only to backfire on him because he posted it and laws in canada apparently treat it as cp? I could have sworn something like that had happened, but it has been almost 5 years and I stopped paying any real attention to GG around november or december of 2014.

Or was this actual CP?

sorry for double posting

I think these idiots are just bad online. There aren't any games with significant userbases, at least where the community itself runs the servers, where you can't find at least one server that is tightly run and bans 12 year old squeakers and "faggot" screamers and griefers and all the kinds of players that snowflakes like this can't cope with.

Of course some of them also ban hypersensitive snowflakes who fucking annoy everyone with their bullshit, too.
The fact these wimps miss the point of online video games is so depressing. The true beauty of online gaming is at any hour of any day I can go play vidya while an anonymous stranger calls me a gay nigger.

Gamergate was what happened when Redditors wanted to pretend to be 4chan, and all the 4chan people got bored and fucked off you were left with... what happened.

GG will never go away because it was (for many of us) the first time the media blatantly took a stance divorced from the truth, and we saw things being reported that we personally knew weren't true.

It also largely worked, so they'll never drop it from their playbook. It's a huge win for the pro-censorship camp. And they keep hammering at it any chance they get so the narrative stays reinforced. If they lose focus it could end up like the NFL's deflate-gate, where everyone was going along with the narrative for a while, but eventually everyone pretty much agreed it was bullshit. That's their fear, I think, if people realize gamergate wasn't really about misogonerds harrassing innocent women they might say "Hey wait a minute, what the fuck guys, you told us they were crazy terrorists and shit"

It's a big win for them, but it's also a big lie still hanging out there. They're scared of the narrative shifting too.

We as a community (of gamers) need to take a stand (rise up)
Why do you need to poke corpses Meg? Why are you aggravating the roaches underneath?!

Anyways, here's my thought on gamergate and Altright/ecofash shooters, and by extension commies and nrx and other fringe ideologies that are growing now: there was this one saying by some philosopher, I think, that said revolutions happen when there are many young, unemployed or disenfranchised men, as their frustrations coalesce into desire to overthrow current order. And Romans had this expression, bread and circuses, describing how they maintained order by keeping lower classes fed and entertained. The 20th century has led to birth of brand new forms of entertainment. You could create the levels of complacency never seen before thanks to films, games and other autistic hobbies. Yet these idiots, and businesses that followed their suggestions expecting to tap into new audiences, just had to push away white men from their circuses, and are now wondering why the fuck are they growing radicalised. And they just keep poking and poking shit, having not learned their lesson.

Meg now sperging out on Twatter. I think she's dyslexic.

"Narrative designer" lol.

As Zoe Quinn has demonstrated, "narrative designer" is code for "talentless hack whose sole skill is REEEIng on Twitter over stupid shit and is only on the payroll because they polish the programmers' knobs"

Edit: LOL. I finally saw footage of her spergathon at GDC, and she's essentially Chelsea with a tan. A chubby, so-so looking chick with dangerhair who can't stop screeching about "muh horsemint" and GAAAAMMMERGAAAATEEEE!
