I've received a couple media requests and I've ignored all of them except one from The Daily Beast. This was my reply to their questions.

When did Kiwi Farms start, and why did you start it?
The Kiwi Farms was originally the CWCki Forums, about one person: Christian Weston Chandler (CWC). Chris's dedicated trolll clique had their own wiki about him, and as their wiki admins grew nepotistic, they created a forum to basically shunt aside newcomers interested in Chris. I took over the forum essentially on accident in early 2013, and by 2014 it was decisively my own site. From there I focused on growth and allowing as many people to be talked about as I could reasonably accommodate.

-How does Kiwi Farms differ from other boards people might be familiar with, like 4chan or 8chan? My sense is that it's the focus on "lol cows," but obviously that's not unheard of on those boards either.
4chan and 8chan are both imageboards with a huge number of topics and no real focus. Threads on the imageboards last very temporarily, while Kiwi Farms is instead a forum focused mostly on conversations and a huge emphasis on preservation. We tend to archive things on people we talk about and keep them up forever. The shooting video was no exception to this modus operandi. Our site started about one topic (crazy people online) and has spread to more off-topic discussion by way of community interest, such as our Articles & Happenings board where the shooting thread is located.

-Do you have any sense that Tarrant used Kiwi Farms, or are the NZ police just going after your users because copies of the video were shared there?
No. If the NZ police were asking for technical information of a single user I could confirm to be Tarrant I'd have obliged that because I have no interest obstructing ongoing investigations. The err of the NZ police was essentially wanting to dig its hands into my pockets and pull out everything they could. If the intention of the detective was to get help researching a lead they had on Tarrant's online behavior by looking at a single KF user, he did not make that clear. I think most reasonable people would see their request as an overreach and one without limitations.

-Where is KF based?
The United States. Hardware is in two different states, LLC is in Florida.

-Kiwi Farms gets a lot of criticism for the harassment campaigns its user launch, what would you say to people who say the site shouldn't exist because of that?
I would disagree the KF has ever started a 'harassment campaign'. That's to imply that the people on the site do more than post on my private Internet forum what they want to say. We actively discourage people from making off-site contact with thread subjects. Even if it did spur on a 'harassment campaign', what is the complaint? Someone said something stupid and got made fun of for it on Twitter? Get over it. It's the Internet. If Internet harassment could kill, the hundreds of angry emails from belligerent, low-IQ New Zealanders I'd have gotten the last few days would have certainly put me 6ft under by now. The hit pieces pathetic, grasping Oceania manchildren/journalists have pumped out the last few days have spurred on a hundred times more harassment than any thread on my website.

I'm surprised you didn't just send them the Tyler the creator cyber-bullying quote

I think that it's pretty clear that the NZ police had no belief, reasonable or otherwise, that Tarrant ever had an account here, or even lurked here. The phrasing of the request was clearly intended for the purpose of gathering technical information sufficient to identify anyone who resides in New Zealand who downloaded or shared the shooting video and manifesto, with the end goal of criminal prosecution.

What really chaps my ass is that every media hit piece in AU and NZ has implied that Tarrant was an active user here, and that you are somehow refusing to cooperate with the goal of obstructing the investigation into his online activities, when in fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. I don't know whether to chalk it up to lazy "journalism" or a deliberate agenda of misinformation, but either way, it is misleading in the extreme.

As Null said, even if they did believe he was on here, they did not convey that in an effective method that would garner a legitimate response. The email from the "detective" is horrying in terms of blatant ineptitude. "Could you please advise what legal process you require for this request and also confirm preservation of the data requested pending legal process." You're a detective, you should already know what legal channels you need to go through to obtain the relevant information. This was an obvious scattershot attempt at getting all the information they could without any of the legal backing they required. I'm betting he thought this website was started by some edgy, teenaged Kiwi who has no knowledge of the legal system and was shitting his pants on seeing a @police.govt.nz email in his inbox.

Completely baseless request, for overreaching information, communicated in a completely inept behavior. If these news sites should be reporting anything, it should be "New Zealand internet detective doesn't know how to politely, effectively ask for data in an extreme case of national security."

pls do my job for me :D T. detectib

The Daily Beast dared ask you polite questions. Obviously this means they're transphobic neo-nazi pedophiles. I expect a certain bald Britfag to call the mothers of all those who work here.

I didn't know Kurt Eichenwald was British

I wish I knew what to look up, but remember @Null saying the big twitter SJWs were intentionally ignoring and not talking about the KF to keep traffic to a minimum, and he figured something big would happen so that they could no longer ignore us?

I think this video is it. Everyone can't ignore us.

They didn't really ask any questions that they couldn't just find looking up Kiwifarms and looking for your own words. I feel like they could have asked more questions but decided not to. At least they seemed professional so good on them. I stopped reading anything news related unless it comes from my country as reporters tend to tell the government and police to fuck off. Unless you're in Toronto, but they lack balls there.

It was so obvious they wern't going after Tarrent with that request, they were going after any person sharing the video. All the NZ rags posting hitpieces on Null and the forums are deliberately misrepresenting the fact the the NZ police are trying to imprison their own citizens for sharing a video. If NZlanders want to cheer this on, a small part of me almost thinks they deserve what they get.

Also Null, please share all the fanmail you've been getting!
