Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Not sure how true this is, but this tweet thread claims a subset of "Reylos" have been doxing and stalking Adam Driver, his wife and their infant son. I'm especially dubious that female shippers would find their way to 4Chan, but this stuff claims they have.

Shippers are nuts, I don't remember all the drama but I totally believe that a few crazy tweenage girls would stalk and dox Driver.

So I need clarification, Ted Turner, basically Warner Media, owns the television rights to the first six films?

From skimming /tv/ about a year ago Reylos were rampant enough on it that a containment thread had to be made for them for some time, and they were easily as autistic as anyone else on that board. Not going to discount the possibility of some of them being dedicated trolls but they couldn't all have been.

Not forever. But somehow TNT/TBS owns all broadcast rights (including streaming) to episodes I through VI until 2024, tons of sources state this. What is odd is that I can't find out when they acquired these rights; as in this might even pre-date LucasFilm's acquisition. Would be a funny middle finger by George Lucas to Disney if he did it, though, wouldn't it?

I tripped and hit my head, and had a revelation.

Anyone who follows Midnight's Edge knows that Star Trek rights issues are more convoluted and interesting than anything in the franchise for years. I suspect, but cannot prove, that the Star Trek and unrelated Star Wars licenses currently being used grant the rights to make new content, with the provision that it must all be shit.

The people behind Star Trek and Star Wars are fully aware their scripts would never pass muster on any fanfic site (for writers aged 12-17) , but they are contractually obligated to be fucking awful. It must be frustrating as heck.

I can't find it now, probably posted it on this thread, but there was a single panel webcomic I saw that had a shadowy figure (with round ears) saying, "Name your price, Mr. Lucas."

The other figure in the panel says, "$4 billion and you have to convince people the prequels are good."

(or something to that effect)

Anyone else finding internet searches increasingly useless?

I don't know if I've mentioned this yet, but Disney announced that the opening date for California's Galaxy's Edge (the not-Star Wars-like Star Wars park) has changed from after August to May 31st for reasons unknown to me, while the Florida one will still be opening in August. Seriously, opening this "completely disconnected from the franchise" park before it even has some kind of media tie-in or movie appearance is really odd. It might not even be in IX. And all of the DisneyEU content that's being made for it won't even come out until September, so people and even the most hardcore of Disneyfags won't know what's what in this thing outside of the First Order and Falcon ride.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to at least have it be in the movie first then open the park after it releases?

Give their demonstrated incompetence it MIGHT have been in the movie(s) originally then was cut out because Whinin' Johnson didn't like it's lack of subversion or Jar Jar Abrams couldn't find it referenced in the OT and got too confused.

EDIT:
That sounds a lot like Star-Lord's background. But hey if Chris Pratt wandered into a shot with the Meco disco version of the Star Wars theme playing on his walkman it would be way better than most of TLJ even if it is a tone breaking non-sequitir.

Also I showed my buddy your post and his reply I quote: "Stupid philistine! It's a rip-off of Dune's 3rd book! Kids these days..."

Impossible.

The Chinese bootleg would be actually entertaining.
The Chinese bootleg of Return of the Jedi would have Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung force ghosts, though.

I recently read the third book in the Dune series and I'm trying to remember who that COULD apply to...Faradn? Maybe? Although I was kind of under the impression that male heirs from the Corrino family were just sent to become Sardaukar officers prior to wielding political power.

Don't you just love it when "geek" news sites tell the fans that they should take it up the ass? And funny how they suddenly love Frank Oz now for defending Rian and Disney despite viciously hating on the guy a few months back when he said something about how forcing in wokeness and diversity characters was becoming dumb. And I also like how news outlets like these keep trying to depict the hate for TLJ as being in a minority or that its "not for fans anymore". Then pray tell who the fuck are these movies for (other than virtue signalling hipsters)? Also on a similar but different note, I'm getting so sick of news outlets these days throwing around fucking "bigot" labels because someone said your piece of media was shit.

That's downright impossible due to the nature of Rey Sue as an audience surrogate similar to Bella from Twilight.
There's nothing wrong with an audience surrogate- the original Star Wars does a good job with them, and actually kind of transfers the role from Luke to Han once Luke starts his training with the Force onboard the Falcon. Finn was a wasted opportunity for an audience surrogate since he AFAIK has lived his whole life as a stormtrooper and doesn't understand how normal society would work.

Yeah, that calls to mind an old Penny Arcade strip that basically calls out people using "it's not for YOU" as a means to deflect criticism from themselves. It's not a real argument at all.

In the terms of audience surrogate, I don't mean a character like Luke who isn't experienced with the outside galaxy, and who discovers things alongside the audience. I mean cutout characters in YA novels who are there to soak up affection and have little personality so that the reader can imagine themselves as this character. Let's make a comparison between Rey Sue and Bella from Twilight, then contrast to Luke.

The Sues have things happen to them. They do not take initiative but end up at the center of major events, through their special qualities alone, through no effort or will. They are showered with praise, items, and even their mortal enemies love them in some way, shape, or form. The fanbase of these characters revolves principally around which man they are going to be with, and not the intricacies of the character itself.

Luke, to contrast, actually wanted to be a hero and go out and explore the galaxy. While he takes a backseat in some areas he is always interacting with the environment around him, trying, sometimes failing, to proceed.

There's a four-set of novels on Kindle by A.H. Lloyd called the Man of Destiny series.

Basically, it's the plot arc of the prequels and OT, rebuilt by someone who knows how governance, economics, and the military works and can actually write worth a damn.

I read through them a while back, and despite being thinly-disguised fanfic rewrites, they're still better than the sequels.

There's an old wiki on Wikia called the Star Wars Fanon wiki. There's an Encyclopedia Dramatica article about it too. Back in the day, it was written by self-identified autistic teenagers. Yet I guarantee if you wrote a fanfic about Rey and Kylo Ren back in its heyday (over a decade ago), you'd be criticized as writing Mary Sue shit.

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? ;)

Leto II! The entire plot turns on him being kidnapped and drugged up.

Neat, I may have to go give those a look.

Part of what hurt the prequels is Lucas' own tendencies. The Jedi are supposed to be near myth in episode 4. The problem is that he also wanted the prequels to show them at the height of their power and popularity. That just doesn't work. It would be the equivalent of having a generation not believe in catholic priests when their parents fought in the crusades. For episode 4 to work the prequels needed to show a Jedi order that was dying and/or having the wider galaxy turn on it (maybe because they're kidnapping children). The problem is Lucas made the Jedi an entire Mary Sue order, so he couldn't have them ever be wrong or make a mistake without active enemy interference. As soon as E1 had the line "we dare not go against the jedi" the entire prequel series was fucked.
