Priests and monks do it a lot, because they've divested themselves of Earthly things and have turned their will fully to following Christ's example. So did most of the martyrs. I'll remind you that Christ forgave the soldiers who came to seize him in Gethsemane and the very crowd which condemned him to die. His followers wanted to strike down the Romans and the Pharisees for the Crucifixion, but Christ forbade this, both before and after his death. To live a Christly life and to live a normal life are irreconcilable, which is why things such as intercession are important.
I personally find it confusing that you are angry at this man for acting in line with the behavior of the saints and profits, but then I remember Luke 6:22.
