Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Oh, and being a Mississippi native, I have been eyeing Vic's TupeloCon appearance for a while now. I have been kinda lookin' forward to all the "redneck/right-wing" and anti-Vic spergs but I have been extremely disappointed so far. (Although I am a few pages behind).

Outside of the weird cult of Vic kickers, nobody gives a shit. The hatred of Vic is solely the work of a cabal of idiots who don't realize their fucked up opinions are not shared by anyone other than themselves.

This is why, like Gawker, they're going to get absolutely annihilated in court.

We don't really know what it is. It's possible it's something as crude as they simply take out a new contract for every property, but I doubt that. They probably have some kind of contract laying out an extended relationship, probably terminable at will, but perhaps only upon certain conditions being met.

I would guess there's some contract period where it needs to be renewed periodically, but when? Every year? Every five years? A cozy relationship would have the renewal period being pretty long and more or less assuming that it wouldn't just be terminated willy-nilly.

I seriously doubt the relationship is all that cozy at present, though.

This is a great point and I would really, really love a source for it. I have myself relied on this being a thing and realize I have absolutely no real factual basis for doing that.

Is this a meme or a real thing?
If the super anime starts back and broly gets added as a character I could see some PR problems arise from vic not returning to the dub, with all the backlash funimation would get for it. Toe would have to consider that as well when time to renew any contracts

It's very likely that lots of people will boycott anything Broly-related that isn't voiced by Vic.

That should be nearly guaranteed.

Fortunately, KickVic never got the critical mass required to see a good woke horde kick up against him. The pushback was too fast and too hard on social media, and the people who would amplify it simply aren't there in the various Journo-activist blogs like Buzzfeed News and HuffPo, thanks to the Obama era propaganda bill expiring. So instead you just saw a handful of sociopaths -- MarzGurl, Marchi, Rial, Toye, Thotmoore, Skye, etc -- who would have normally been the ones escalating to keep themselves in front of the horde, but without the horde to constantly drive them forward. So they just looked like idiots instead.

This bit. Right here is the real key and why suddenly the moves back are more effective. You've now got incidents like Covington, and Vic to an extent in which an entire side of the argument no longer has its amplification network to whip everything into the frenzies it used to get on the regular. All those friendly outlets are fleeing from, or no longer have funding for, these useless departments that simply sowed division among society. All that's left are the unhinged on social media and nobody really gives a shit about these people in real life. At all.

People who play pallies like this in D&D genuinely make me sad. The idea that you have to be the nicest goody two-shoes the entirety of an adventure and never once be mean or rude is so stupidly restrictive. I myself am just finishing up a pathfinder campaign (Kingmaker, if anyone cares) where I played as a paladin of Erastil, god of agriculture and community. I was chosen to be king of our fledgling kingdom, and I worked to make it the best damn kingdom I could. When it came to interactions with other kingdoms, sometimes it would end up coming down to shooting an arrow through the opposing royal's throat. I would always start with diplomacy (and was generally pretty good at it), but sometimes being nice just won't work. As long as I put the health and prosperity of my community (kingdom) first, then my actions were generally just.

That being said, I know sometimes it can also be the fault of dickhead GMs who go "oh you weren't the prime exemplar of human goody-two-shoe-ness, so your god is pissed at you and all your powers will be stripped"

I laughed really hard at the idiot throwing in "he stole a sandwich" at the end. Like yeah the rest wasn't bad, but holy shit the sandwich tho what a dick I'm kickvic now all the way 100% convinced

Going by kickvic's history, it wasn't a sandwich but a plate of fries and the person offered Vic one. Then ten years later they decided he stole it.

I'd rather play a more amoral Paladin one of these days. A kind of "justice is blind and so am I" sort who punishes with righteous fury for any law breaking no matter how minor. Lawfare of the physical kind.

Ya know, the sort who will take the starving child thieves off to the baliff, then run the baliff through when he derelicts his duties and releases the kids because they're too small time.

Sounds fun.

Also, I can see how the sammich "theft" played out.

Probably be a table with some food on it, one with a sammich on a plate.

Vic: Hey, is this anyone's sandwhich? I've been signing all day and I am starving!

Person A: Uhhh, no, I don't think it's anyone's. Take it man.

Vic: Bless you.

Person B, comes back two minutes later.

Person B: Hey, where's my sammich?

Person C: Oh, that Vic guy took it.

Person B: Vic stole my sammich? Heh. I'll just grab another.

And end scene.

No one has produced a source for this despite many people, me included, having asked for one. Probably better to not take this into consideration when discussing what Toei will do.

Agreed that the incident with Toei still has blanks that need to be confirmed so we can't take their actions as proof of anything. Too many stories about them going around where they're for Vic or they're against Vic etc etc.

On the Sonny Strait/Toei specifically chose Vic for Broly issue, I've seen it stated on the thread before that it was never directly stated that Toei specifically chose Vic for Broly. On that topic, it seems some details have been misconstrued along the lines. From what I've heard the actual quote by strait went something along the lines of

"Toei knew what they wanted their characters to sound like when they were being cast, hence they exerted their influence on certain Funimation casting decisions a bit more than others"

I myself have yet to find the source of this quote as well or any inference that we can take Vic to be one of these casting decisions Toei exerted influence on

Streak broken. :feels:

As much as I'd like to inflate Vic's losses (I think he ends up getting a standard amount over months based on prior months, no inflation), he's probably getting way more positive attention than negative now. Just look at his turn-outs lately. 3 HOURS IN LINE? I barely made it through Endgame. THAT'S how much people love Vic this very moment.

(They actually made him famous and springboarded his career!)

EDIT: and I think it's been shown that SJW's don't pay the bills, when it comes to supporting a cause.

Hold on guys. Force? As in exert pressure, possibly to coerce somebody against their will? And let's not ignore the obvious phallic symbolism of that picture...

Is this a subconscious admission of guilt or even worse, the gleeful taunting of a psycho-sexual sadist?

That's true for now, everybody is showing up to support him,but what about in a couple years? The damage done to his career sadly is forever, how's he going to get new roles to keep the fan base interested in his work and attract invites to cons?

And invalidating those claims is a partial remedy.

The issue was if Vic settled out-of-court for a lesser amount.

EDIT: looking back, that was just my position. But still.

His "professional" website's pic is, for lack of a better word, YIKES! Like c'mon dude, you're basically using this site as your resume, can you not invest in some decent looking headshots? Preferably ones where you don't look like you own a white van with "FREE CANDY" written on the side. :

Oh god, RPGgamer uses a avatar of a dragon using a microphone and using tech equipment, clearly meant to signify his persona is a dragon
Please don't tell me he's some sort of secret furry
Anyone who uses a dragon as their online persona is a furry/scalie 9999% of the time

Well that led me down a rabbit hole of TDS, furries and a furry artist sperging about Persona 4 and completely missing the point of it along with trans rights or some gay shit.

Besides all of that: Haha, his hero is a shitty youtuber. Has the bar hit so low that people idolize what's within reach instead of the ideal?

Jesus Christ. This seems like an absolutely huge waste of time and why I don't use Twitter, but am glad it's around so idiots can incriminate themselves.

Oh my god, even TheHeroOfTomorrow is raising the for m'lady's honor. The Kickvic camp sure does has some heavy hitters on their side. For those who never heard of this dude, he one of those copycat reviewers from around the time Channel Awesome hit it's stride. If you've ever sat through one of Linkara's videos, this dude is basically a duller, fatter version with an even more prominent lisp.

All that said, I think he works well as an visual representation of twitter white knights.

Twitter counts replies as tweets. You can spend a couple years arguing with retards instead of making the usual follower-gaining shit and have a big tweet number and no followers most easily.

It seems to me like it's more guesswork than actual fact, same as 'Sabat/Funi shield TFS'.
We know Sabat manages DBZ casting, mostly. We know, now, that Sabat's a little bitch who's in on this parade of chucklefucks trying to sink Vic. We know Japanese are autistic about voice actors staying the same.
It's a fair assumption to make that Vic wasn't a cast made by Sabat, but one Toei made.

With TFS stuff, though...
FUNi are super buddy-buds with them, especially Sabat. FUNi tried to employ them in projects several times, every time they're claimed on YouTube, it is Toei's doing and I don't think there ever was an incident with FUNi being the one to cast down a copyright claim.
I'd figure the extend to which FUNi can shield TFS is not attacking them the way their license provider does.
