Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Yeah she is full of shit. If she said she was borderline personality, I'd believe her, because that's what this all screams. BPDs love to latch onto autism advocacy, I've found. Actual autistics are awkward and earnest easily cowed by a bunch of loud, flamboyant liars, and BPDs are good at being identity chameleons so they just move in and take over, claiming to speak for all Autiedom.

Why not just advocate for BPD though like Susanna Kaysen did with Girl interrupted? As far as I know it's not too common, Girl Interrupted was the first I'd heard of it anyway. Is it just not as sexy as autism? (lol)

Edit: sorry I missed the two above posts.

Yeah as you probably gathered now it carries a lot of stigma and not entirely undeservedly so. The unfortunate thing is that some not-horrible people end up with BPD symptoms because they were abused as children. Some researchers believe that complex ptsd is its own thing, but it hasn't been officially recognized yet. Anyhow, people who get diagnosed with BPD because of trauma, who aren't attention whores, tend to just put their heads down and hope no one finds out, because they don't want to be associated with the other half of the BPD diagnosis which is...*gestures at lolcows broadly*

That said, it remains a very easy diagnosis to fake or confuse with other conditions if you aren't entirely honest about things. ADHD is a common one because they can present very similarly - lack of eye contact, fidgeting or stimming, apparent lack of social skills, very all-or-nothing with interests. Once you're older, social anxiety is also difficult to distinguish without a solid record of childhood behaviour.

I just watched a few of her insta vlogs, and I'm going to give it a big PROVE IT. I have a great deal of experience with autism, and with adults with autism, and I do not see her at all as autistic. In her non-meltdown videos where she is just talking, I couldn't give you even one sign of her having autism. It's a no from me dawg.

So what I'm trying to say is that maybe she's acting "so autistic" because she's doing what she thinks people with autism would do. But it isn't realistic.

Found this little gem from that dead-eyed girl's blog.
When your super speshul "allergies" get you exactly what you asked for - super speshul diet restrictions.
I'm skeptical. I've seen doctors complain that they'll put cardiac or diabetic patients on a special diet, the patient will bitch, and they'll be given the regular food. Or the classic of their family sneaking them in KFC.

Also, if she was on clear liquids, wouldn't that mean no food anyway? I'm confused.

The stigma around it is why I was thinking it would be a good idea for people to advocate for people who suffer from BPD. Isn't the whole point to get people to understand what it's like to try and live with an illness?

I hope that doesn't some across as encouraging more 'insert illness here' warriors because I think the people who do this have already lost the battle with their illness (real or imagined) by making their whole life about it. Also, as a viewer it would be nice to see a few new acts being thrown in.

Yeah, that's a fair guess. I definitely got that sense from Jaquie too, in some of her vlogs. I'd describe it almost as selective autism - when she remembered or when it was relevant, it was a Very Big Deal, but the rest of the time? Less noticeable. (I think she may have had a very mild spectrum disorder but in no way was it as problematic as she portrayed it, and you could diagnose half the world with that anyway if you sent them to the right doctor, so what's the point?).

From /r/illnessfakers, here's Jan begging for sympathy. How convenient, since she's just gotten a lot of shit from her and Jaq's "fans" and her husband is currently in a real flare of his real inflammatory bowel disease.

So recently I have been watching a woman named "Agony Autie". She has autism, Ehlers Danlos, POTs, Endomitriosis. Currently in a wheelchair. It's especially her... stories and her facebook stories that give me a strange sensation of performativity if that makes sense.

She looks incredibly familiar. Is this Ashley Isaacs' friend Erika?

So you're saying a munchie might have embellished? Darndest thing I ever heard.
I didn't say I believed her, just laughing at the idea she's complaining that the hospital made her follow her self-imposed restricted diet and treated her "allergies" as real.
I think she likes to blame her very real eating disorder on things like "well the hospital wouldn't let me eat" and "severe" gastropaREEEEEEEEEsis.

Weed and hydrocodone. Maybe popped a Xanax for her “panic attacks” right before her epic speech.
highly likely to be a cocktail of xanax and whatever other bullshit she could get her sticky little hands in the moment.

ETA - a common experience of xanax is acting SUPER fucking off without being able to sense it yourself. like total lack of social awareness. not saying Jan doesn't just have that in general. but this look v xanax in my experience.

Someone on IF posted this link of the service for Jaquie. Holy shit, Jan rambles narcissistically for over 15 minutes, like 1/4 of the service about HERSELF and how she needs to edit out her references to Jaq doing her homework and then talks about Judd crying. She is a piece of shit. At one point she talks about how she is “antisocial” and I can’t help but wonder if that’s her actual diagnosis based on this. I can’t tell if she is mentioning all this because she feels like she was an imposter in Jaquie’s life or wha but this looks terrible on her part.

Hope somebody archived this because I just went to watch it and the video is no longer available.

Too many Jan hate or "lmao she had munchausen's, faker" comments for them to handle I guess.

Jan's videos will be reuploaded to this vimeo as long as she keeps being a coward and deleting them.
