Sorry for necroing this thread, but I have noticed that this FF.Net user topic is mostly about the authors. And while that makes sense, I believe we're overlooking the side of the coin: the critics.

Or more specifically, the dedicated flamers.

Behold, a flamer with a whopping 45,926 word description (that's fucking novella length), most of which is showcasing arguments with fic writers and stating the "rules" of fan fiction... the rules she made up and enforces all by herself and nobody else recognizes.

Lowlights include:

• Expressing disgust at women for writing slash and pitying their boyfriends
• Claiming to be against non-con fics as a defender against the horrors of rape while wishing rape on fan fic authors she disagrees with
• Stating BDSM is never consensual and those who practice it are deviants
• Claiming that sodomy is solely practiced between homosexuals and is the sole source of STDs, as well as that it always results in anal tearing
• Declaring fics that go against canon as "against the rules" and declaring herself the self-proclaimed Fan Fiction Police
• Bitching about liberals, homosexuals, feminists and the Southern Poverty Law Center
• Talking down to people who are reasonably wondering what the fuck this bitch is going on about when they fail to understand her fucking crazy talk
• Displaying the usernames of "hunts" like she was fucking Joe McCarthy with a list of communist spies
• Telling people to get out of America while having a location set in Canada

She came across my radar because I reblogged a post on Tumblr complaining about her and called her a loser, so she linked my Tumblr at the top of her page and I got angry asks from writers calling me homophobic racist trash.

I started a Tumblr gathering some of her more interesting quotes a while back but haven't touched it in a while, as it was originally there to try and get her banned. But that won't happen because FF.net doesn't actually seem to give a fuck, no matter how many people reported her. So maybe you guys will get a kick out of how totally fucking bonkers she is.

(Not sure if she warrants her own thread since she doesn't seem to have any other traceable web presence but yeah.)

Not much is known about The Fox Familiar outside of her FF.net page. We know that she is female, and we know that she lives in Canada. She is probably white. She doesn't appear to be a troll, as she's apparently been doing this shit since 2009, as she took personal offense to having a Tumblr blog criticize her behavior. If she uses any other websites, I don't know what they are.

I saw this while skimming her ff.net profile.

BDSM has a long, long range of sexual paraphernalia, and isn't just limited to whips and chains. It can involve animals, objects, even sexual attraction to vegetables. By and large, despite a few newspaper articles that try to say otherwise, it is a sexual disorder with a wide range of causes and effects. She can define love however she wishes, so I find it odd how she doesn't support incest or paedophilia. That is considered love in most cultures, after all.

I don't think this person knows what BDSM is.
I'll probably repost more of her quotes later, when I get a chance to read her profile more thoroughly.

I see she's of the "free speech means I can say anything I want without repercussions" school of thought. I'm sure it's been repeatedly pointed out to her that her right to spew hatred does not supersede the right of others to disagree and call her out on such behavior.

You know, by claiming you're better than an allegedly nasty flamer, you're showing yourselves as a worse enemy. And all this for fan-fiction? Fan-fiction. Wow. If you say this person has no life, you surely had none to begin with.

Says the woman whose FF.net profile is a novel in and of itself. For someone who supposedly thinks fanfiction isn't worth getting your panties in a bunch over... well, you know.

I also perused her favorites and I'm seeing a lot of Dishonored and Game of Thrones fics listed there. Considering she's not a fan of deviancy this is an interesting discovery. There's some noteworthy homosexual manuscripts to be found in Dishonored. Not to mention there's a mission where you infiltrate a brothel and have the option to "interrogate" a target.

Here's what happened:

Somebody I was following on Tumblr reblogged a post by somebody who was one of her victims. This is somebody I've been following for a while, so I read this post over, and was thinking, "wow, what a loser," and wrote as much.

Then I got a strange submission in my askbox:

It doesn't phase me much. I've gotten stupider shit sent to me.

But then I get an enraged ask from somebody calling me a homophobe and a sexist, and I'm immediately confused. We talk things through in private, and come to find out that The Fox Familiar picked me, of all people, to link at the tippy top of their FF.net page.

Why me? I guess because my blog has a lot of followers and there was probably a great deal of traffic coming to their page from my blog specifically. Beyond that, no particular reason, especially since I wasn't even the OP.

After a few hours of spamming The Fox Familiar's Tumblr tag with the weirdest fucking porn I and others could find (with the hope of perhaps doing some damage to their Google search results, because I was kind of pissed off), I decided to contact FanFiction.net about somebody pretty much posing as me, or at the very least, intentionally misleading people into thinking we were the same person while being vague enough that they could deny it... kind of like what Vade does with well, everything.

Nothing. Months pass. I email them again and again and hear nothing. Not even a form response. I try contacting FF.net on Twitter. Radio silence. Meanwhile, this bitch continues to rip it up, with my URL at the top of her fucking doorstopper of a description, being a racist, sexist, homophobic and otherwise unpleasant human being. Adding to this, I get at least one person finding a photograph of me, thinking it's The Fox Familiar, and insulting my looks by calling me unfuckable, and no wonder she's such a huge cunt.

As you can imagine, that kind of ruined my evening, misplaced and untrue as it was.

I tried making the Tumblr to draw people's attention to the crazy. It got minimal support, mostly from other fanfic writers who'd been targeted. It never got off the ground.

Since I've only been a victim by way of having my handle associated with her, I'm not quite as intimately familiar with her tactics. I don't upload any fics on FF.net and I don't write for any of her preferred fandoms. But her go-to strategy seems to basically just select a story, accuse the author of being a rape-fetishist, an LGBTard, and basically just drown them in a sea of fucking WORDS WORDS WORDS while employing the "pick apart your response by individual sentences and paragraphs" style of internet argument most favored by insufferable know-it-alls. She's run people off of the site, people who just started writing. And she's allowed to get away with it because FF.net staff would rather program the site so that you can read it on your fucking 2004 Blackberry rather than handle abuse tickets.

Since she's been able to do this for like six years, she's pretty much convinced she's fucking invincible and just in cause, going about her merry way being an absolute dick to some poor fucker who just wanted to make Megatron and Starscream have improbable robot yaois.

What's with FanFiction.net reviewers being giant space dicks like this? Everyone who does it has this weird tendency of being so 'holier-than-thou', flaming people openly and telling them how much they suck, and if they actually write stories they're even more assholish about that.

I've seen at least three, including this FF person, and I don't want to say it's a gender thing, but all of the ones I can remember are females. I don't get it.

The Familar Fox reviewed one of my favourite works - I had to look to see what she had to say about it and it looks like this isn't just an outsiders opinion.

FYI: Her profile is literally only a thousand words short of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 – 46,118 words. Most of it is hate mail trying to show how resilient she is and is more like a Trophy Room of "TFF: 99999 - Everyone Else: 0"

This fact she actually admits she actively flame's submissions, no 'constructive criticism' and she links to profiles that break her self-imposed quality control or are apparently bad people.

Here's what I can figure out what she deems 'flame-able':

APPARENTLY IF YOU WRITE YOU'RE NOW IN HER POWER TO HUMILIATE YOU. THE CONTRACT HAS BEEN SEALED.

• 'Cliched' stories (which is apparently self-explanatory). It is not self-explanatory, explain or gtfo. There are many cliches and some of them are the substance of genres.
  
• Slash Stories are a no-no, ew homosexuality! Most stories which have slash in them have tags that say they do, why can't she just be like 99% of the fanfiction society and just pass what they don't like?
• Porn. Oh come on! This is where the fun is.
  
• Self-Inserts. There are good self-inserts and bad self-inserts, there is nothing inherently bad about self-inserts.
• "Horrible and talentless" authors and their little cretins. Frankly, if a person has a following they're obviously doing something right and this is apparently everyone except her.
  
• Abuse/Rape stories. Many of these stories have warnings or use the Angst/Comfort tag, if you want to read stories without these go back to K ratings.
  
• Toxic Women. So you think shes talking about characters? Wrong. These are other writers who write to 'please you' so congrats, everyone else on FanFiction is deemed shitlord.
• Non-Canon Works. Things that break characters or events, considered bastard by default, soo many kinds of wrong.
  
• "The purpose of writing is that your story will be told, not to be some form of political or emotional wet-dream because someone else told you it was right." - Y.. you mean that I can't express my opinions on something? This is the only medium which we can learn the opinions of people from thousands of years ago.
  
• If you're published author or have a university degree your original works are inconsistent and you are not talented; if you write self-help or how-tos you're a modernist, fact-denying, human-hating monstrosity - even if you are a professional writer.
• Plagiarizing/Copying other peoples works, okay yeah acceptable its a big thing in any community.
• I don't know who in their right minds would ask this egotistical narcissist to review their work, but people do - they paint a bullseye on their backsides and call out. Apparently she would write a lot more on the review but the 1500 character cap stops her (fourtunately)

I see she has no public works on fanfiction, and obviously this is a one-time-used username: it must be a divine duty to flame FanFiction.

Anyway, I think this person is even more pathetic than the losers who write stupid fan fiction. It's like and Chris. Alog is a bigger loser than Chris specifically because he tries to claim that he's better than Chris. It's really kind of pathetic that she's devoted her life to getting angry at some stupid 12 year old for writing bad fanfiction. If she really wanted to be the better person, she'd do something like an MSTing or a joking review, not go into a massive angry rant about how the author is literally worse than hitler.

Ah, fanfiction flamers... such memories it brings! The person I mentioned the the FF.net thread also had a friend who went around "flaming" other people's fanfiction (usually a 13 year olds first effort because they were too chickenshit to go after someone their own age) all with the flare of a early 2000's Hot Topic shirt.

This was once a all too common practice, which whole clusters of "flame groups" used to run scripts to "mass report" fanfiction which didn't fit their ridiculously high standards. I thought the whole "flame" community died out with Tumblr getting big and GAFF long gone, but nope! here is a fox otherkin (what is it with lolcows and foxes?) keeping the dream alive.
