For my money one of the most surreal things I witnessed with the multiple "culturalization" scandals Funimation had was this fucking ridiculous belief that they were allowed to show complete giggling fucking contempt for their own consumerbase and acted like said consumerbase being angry was an acceptable part of doing business.

I don't know what reality these assholes come from that dictates that insulting your primary revenue source is a good idea, but I'm assuming it's the same one that makes them think that Twitter is real life.
It's not just Funimation look at the utter contempt Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm show their customers.

Donor on the GFM. Would've been funnier if they said "Vic's Gay Pants"

I will say that I think this notice was a plan to get into the head of everyone on the side of Vic. Nick, they tried to rile him up by distinctly not using channels he publically advertised. They used an address linked to him. Ty, they used their language to get him hot under the collar and to throw his hat in the ring (I myself hate when someone implies I shouldn't or can't do something. They also implied they know how to do his job in this case)

There are many merits in getting Nick involved. If they can't poison the cake, they'll poison the Baker. Try to cut the GFM out from under Vic. Get nick angry and sloppy. And make the beard look rash and potentially impulsive.

Not to mention, this all costs money. And believe me, this whole thing has already exhausted the current GFM funds. They want to starve them until the case is dismissed. That's what they're betting on.

Remember, Identity Neo-Marxists are using Maoist tactics. They don't consider you, me, anyone to be "their customers." In fact, they reject the very idea of "customers." They consider the industries they are infesting to be targets for entryism and will either own the industry and subvert it to the party's use, or burn it to the fucking ground so no one else can have it.

Now, is Marchi et all doing this consciously? No, of course not. But the random true believer idiots supporting SocJus? Closer. The alpha SJWs, the teachers and the Yvette Flarcas of the world who are programming the NPCs? They absolutely are.

So long as this case doesn't exceed 1 million dollars, this lawsuit is worth pursuing and none of these people have a million dollars to lose. It's a stupid plan. So if you remember the old Napoleon March to Russia tale I told, it's obvious that Napoleon brutally lost, but Russia was devastated by burning down everything. It absolutely wrecked the Czar (forgive me if that's the wrong name for them) and took one heck of a toll on him. I just want to get that image in people's head.

We have something different. Vic isn't attacking to destroy these people, he's just trying to save himself from this awful situation he was forced in by BLATANTLY false accusations. What do these people get by "beating" this lawsuit? Take whatever the lawsuit settlement would be and double it IF it gets dropped. I don't know what these VAs are going to do because they can't afford this lawsuit. Funimation is going to have to make a big budget cut and drop off some dubs or lay off some of the more expensive ones for cheaper guys. Maybe even Sabat. You think the people watching this are going to be in support of Funimation who is supporting some of the worst scumbags on the planet. I will bet you money their will be a dip in profits after all this is done. If you talk bad about Funimation, this will be brought up for sure.

Maybe KickVic could explain this, but I have no idea what the defense is doing at all. I would've done as much as possible to get this mess off of my hands and make sure NOTHING regarding myself got out. Who gives a shit if Vic is or isn't innocent being honest. I'd want to take the lowest cost option. That ain't just the legal fee price tag but about future revenue as well. Y'all could have gone "I was mistaken and was foretold misinformation" or something along that matter and piss a small portion of your audience off but keep supporting you. A lot of us were unsure what was the truth or not or even doubted "Vic was purely innocent". Look at the situation now. You all cry, but people have stopped listening so much.

And every time you guys make a stir, this reaches more ears and more supporters and people interested in this "Vic" guy. And the more people are aware of the scummy things Funimation is willing to do to keep face. They basically called someone a pedofile and support bullying and ruining people. Funimation in a way is okay with their employees trying to ruin someone. Why would you EVER support someone like that? I don't envy Funimation. But your employees are such morons they are trying to depose literally the worst possible person to ever pick. Some random guy in Minnesota who probably doesn't know much more than everybody else. Even if they somehow get over all the barriers to do this, I'm sure will give them such a hard time they will be so pissed off and actually lose it.

Probably something like this:

"I don't know that much about him. He plays some Edgeworth Ikick in a Chinese Cartoon called Ace Attorney or something. Really nice guy."

"Are you acquaintances with Monica Rial and Ron Toye?"

"No."

"Well there you go."

"Just answer the bloody question."

"I already did."

Jude: "Mr. Rekieta, please stop badgering Mr. Eric."

"I'll put this in a way you can understand: No."

"Then how do you explain this picture?"

"See what?"

"Do you not see what you are doing in that picture?"

"What am I doing?"

"You are shaking Vic's hand. Am I correct?"

"Yes."

"And if I'm not mistaken, he seems rather friendly with you."

"Actually, he was just really happy I complimented those pants. Well, more like I said they were 'one-of-a-kind'"

"Judge, he's not answering the questions"

"Seems like he's answering them to me."

Why on Earth anyone would want to go through that is beyond me. The only thing that would happen is we may get the names of people who have contacted Rekieta earlier than anticipated. Not even Ty knows who they are. Not even Vic knows.

Not sure if underhanded, but the idea of getting g under the skin of Nick and Ty makes a decent amount of sense. AFAIK, neither man has a martyr complex like Tommy Robinson, but KV wants heads on pikes.

It's a clear threat to get Nick to back off. It's shady and unethical. It would have been fine up until they deliberately entered what they clearly thought was the address his children sleep at into the public record. Nich has a public address for receipt of service. They knew this. Their client is known to have this address. That was a cheap shady terrorist tactic.

Nick sent out a few tweets smashing their latest 'the GFM is a scam!' campaign, showing that it's common for 'defense funds' to actually be spent suing people, because they're purposefully using the wrong definition of 'defense'.

Though, personally I think they destroy their 'it's a scam' message best themselves. If it were really a scam and Vic weren't getting all that money to legally destroy them they wouldn't be nearly as pissed off about it.

Maybe, yes, but how is inserting weird, personal gamergate references translating anything? That has nothing whatsoever to do with the original work. You're just deleting the original work and inserting your own personal butthurt when you do that.

The only time I could think of gamergate being an appropriate reference would be if the original scene was referencing some kind of similar scandal that happened in Japan, but that local viewers of the dub would be less likely to understand than gamergate. You might want to use one of those other edgy SJW type insults as well if you wanted to convey 'otaku' in it's appropriate "you're a disgusting unwanted member of society" tone, since just using 'otaku/nerd/fanboy' wouldn't have the right connotation. I'm pretty sure none of Marchi's infamous dub edits actually had that kind of context/connotation in the original language though, so that was just her being dumb and a bad localizer.

@Allanon "Wasn't that the infamous 'cluck cluck chicken' scene?"

If you don't know the reference it's better you stay innocent.

I remember when Nippon Ichi brought Mugen Souls over.

Mugen Souls is all about anime tropes. I barely remember the game, but the heroine has various elemental forms she can change into. Except the forms are all based on weeb tropes. So instead of having like Fire, Water, Earth, Air, etc... you have... Graceful, Sadistic, Tundere, Masochist... 8 of them in total. And the enemies also have these elements. And there are elemental weaknesses. And attack styles, like "Hit," "Kind," "Confession," etc, each of said "elements" having different effects based on the target's... 8 moods. Imagine the Pokemon elemental weakness chart only with all the words randomized. Not even kidding. So you might have to figure out what elemental attack and style, like a Ditzy Confession, would do the best damage to a Egocentric enemy who happens to be Excited.

But here's the thing. When they localized it, they changed "Tsundere" to "Bipolar" alongside all the other weeb terms. Which is... not quite right, but kinda close I guess? But they left in the term Moe. Because... apparently there are anime fans out there that don't know what Tsundere is, but know Moe off the top of their heads.

I have a theory about that. Either the localizer was so off-base they thought moe archetype was Moe from the three stooges, or they bought in to the idea that the word 'moe' can't be translated (even though it's really just 'cute but I still wanna bang it') and so didn't bother.

Even one piece, the worst 4kids dub, is better than the funimation steins;gate dub.

Tl;dr: They turned a show literally about a bunch of channers shitposting irl so hard that they broke reality into le ebin anime big bang bazinga.

I must disagree. Steins;Gate dub was great. It did decently adapting Japanese channer behavior into more recognizable western internet nerd behavior. Also it handled the scene where Okabe assumes the random black man is an American tourist like a champ, despite the original joke being impossible to directly translate into a dub. It even managed to keep the understanding of how dumb he sounded trying to be cool in a different language.

It's fine, they want to get Nick nice and hostile so he can rack up those billable hours telling MoRon to fuck off and if they do managed to depose Nick, they can enjoy several hours of Nick laying out how they're idiots and wasting their time. Then Nick can do a stream about his own deposition and rake in the superchats while MoRon is stuck with a bigger bill.

It's genius really.

It's also possible that MoRon and the Funi VA clique might want to figure out who in the company might be Nick's insider. I'm sure they need someone else to shun and attempt to ruin before the year is done.

It's like watching an extremely talented youth soccer team go against a different team comprised entirely of exceptional kids that keep scoring on their own goal.

That....actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve never heard if Nick has an “insider” or “sources”, mainly
Because he’s only talks the stuff that’s made public and he can get his hands on. The only thing that comes close that I remember is when Sabat’s studio tour was changed then canceled, he speculated bout the reason because he couldn’t get confirmation about the true reason.

Nick has a number of sources. If Nick is talking about it he says he has verified it from 2-3 sources (3 preferred.) He has stated he gets some stuff from insiders in Funi, RT the industry etc, That Monica and Jamie would be quite shocked at who was feeding him stuff secretly in support of Vic.

Oh yeah. He said something about them having a “Et tu, Brute?” moment. Can somebody even ask Nick straight up who’s feeding him stuff? And he has to answer under penalties?

Seems like a poor choice to try to interrogate someone by asking questions you don't know the answer to. If he says Sabat is his inside source, how do they know he isn't? It's not like he's the secret organizer of some kind of conspiracy they're involved in.

Okay, so probably very late and gay but, Thotmore has been vouching for Heidi in the Projared fiasco that she isn't a crazy bitch, it's from a while back but I haven't kept up with that dumpsterfire in a while.

Background: Jared is a old youtuber, divorces his wife on twitter, Heidi (soon to be ex-wife) talked about his behavior online, people come out of the woodworks to share dick pics he solicited to others (including minors), and was banging the wife of Ross from Game Grumps, Heidi is just as bad and allowed that behavior to go on while she was banging dudes as well, so she tries to win pity points too.

For me this is just ironic because of Thotmore's past behavior with Todd and trying to win not only sympathy for Heidi, but also herself as though people would have forgotten the dumb shit she's done too.
