As someone who grew up on very little Disney, all their die-hard fans just give off the impression of a cult. They're like Scientology for manchildren to me.

As someone who grew up watching a lot of Disney, and as someone who enjoys it when Disney finally makes something that's good every so often, I am inclined to agree.

Hardcore Disney fans (especially the adults) go absolutely apeshit if you dare to complain about anything.

The hype leading up to Galaxy's Edge (or Star Wars Land, as all the Disney stans called it) was very cultlike, and look at how that turned out.

I wasn't too interested even back when the worst Disney Wars did was go full-on REMEMBER THE OT? and meanwhile the hardcore Disney fans wall-to-wall sperged out about how it'd be the greatest thing mankind has ever built because it had Disney and Star Wars.

Early in the thread I defended Disney Parks as the one place the company still hadn't shit the bed, but after Galaxy's Edge and Pixar Pier (this wasn't an utter disaster like GE, but it was a rush job retheming of Paradise Pier that was all but confirmed to be rushed out before the finacial quarter ended), they're going down the same path as the rest of the company and appealing to the lowest common denominator, the vapid consumer millennials. Justifying the Galaxy's Edge budget cuts with "even if we cheap out, it'll be a hit with Instagrammers" was a big confirmation.

They done fucked up.

Walt wouldn't have wanted this.

Despite being a massive parks sperg I totally agree. Hell, they were counting their chickens long before they hatched: they were already selling GE merch before the concrete was being poured.

Edit: D23 is right around the corner. The suits are probably scrambling now that spiderman is no longer theirs to borrow for Marvel Land. I highly suspect that stunt animatronic is supposed to be for spiderman for whatever live show they have in mind.

I remember when south park did the whole "mickey mouse as a brutal mob boss" type thing. That episode where they were joking about how awful it would be when disney acquired star wars made me think "oh it'll be fine, who better to carry on the franchise?"

I was so much younger, living in blissful ignorance. Now there's people that actually want to see disney have a near monopoly on the film industry just for more superhero movies, its insane

Reposting this here from the SW thread for anyone interested in regards to the clusterfuck that is Galaxy's Edge.
The Canto Bight station hotel for Galaxy's Edge will not only be an exclusive shit hole but cost $1000 a night?!
After the massive failure of GE, how could they think this is a good idea?

I've discussed the Hotel in detail before along with all of its likely false promises and features in the link below for those who want to know more about the Hotel.

Disney has theme park rights to Spider-man. Sony gave them to Disney in the early aughts in exchange for not having to pay a licensing fee whenever they wanted to make a Spider-man movie.

The whole Spider-Man deal is so fucking confusing honestly. Universal has their Spider-Man ride too.

Universal has the rights for Florida and Disney has no interest in getting them. (Well, they probably do, but they're choosing not to act.)

As far as I understand from theme park nerd boards Universal retains whatever they had at Universal Orlando unless they stop using it, at which point it reverts to Marvel/Disney. Most theme park licenses seem to include clauses so you don't have to plow everything under because a parent licensor changes hands.

Can I have A bit of context about that.
Trying to find a good masterpost of the fiasco but essentially around 2011-2012 a bunch of crazy teenaged girls from tumblr (it was known they were from tumblr because they’d blog all about the poor bastard) harassed the Peter Pan face character to the point that he couldn’t do his job.

I believe he lost his job because the tumblrtards doxed him, and Disney's policy of not connecting people's identities to the character they play is that draconian.

Though to be fair to Disney in that scenario, I'm sure the face characters are grateful for that policy enforcing their anonymity because people can be straight up creeps to them. If I was in his place if the creepy stalkers harrassing me at work doxed me on tumblr I wouldn't want to work there anymore.
