  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

Works just fine here.

Here's an interesting experiment you can try right at home. Open firefox focus and go to duckduckgo, then look up kiwifarms. It's there. It's not there on my regular browser or even in a private tab. Seems like they really are fingerprinting and tracking their users. I can't get a screenshot because firefox focus blocks it and workarounds result in a blackscreen

DO NOT USE search engines that openly spy on you.

DDG is now obviously doing that.

I am being told by a very, very small number of people they can still find KF on DDG -- which means they are altering search results depending on your user profile, which they claim they never do.

You can explicitly search the farms with %term :kiwifarms.net so they're still indexing the site and answering specific queries. However, kiwifarms.net hosted results don't make an appearance on ANY general page results, so a basic delisting. It looks like they're explicitly excluding any results listed at domain kiwifarms.net which is somewhat troubling.. a generic delisting. It might just be a stupid SJW developer, so talk to the Executive office.

@Null
Could put an official query into their open@duckduckgo.com or press@duckduckgo.com points of contact. I personally would do a casual friendly message to open, then a week later if no response, escalate to press. If you still don't get anything, hit legal (I'm guessing legal@duckduckgo.com) and Cc some high profile freedom oriented lawyers like barneslaw@barneslawllp.com with an explicit postscript/footer in the message like:

Cc: Barnes Law LLP

But I expect you know what works best for you. It might also pave the way if you call their executive office directly, and route it thru their VP Steve Fischer. He's relatively new to their culture (began April) and an outsider, so he might be less indoctrinated and as he was a individuated professional, he'll be less likely to be groupthink'd or into their groupsex culture.

DuckDuckGo gets its search results from Oath (formerly Yahoo/AOL) and Bing. DDG doesn’t operate their own indexer. Thus if Kiwi Farms has been delisted on these, it will disappear from DDG as well. So it’s not really their fault, beyond relying on third parties for their results. I’ll also point out that they have only ever claimed to not track you and to not filter your results based on any tracking. They haven’t claimed to have uncensored search results, since they don’t actually operate their own indexer.

Not necessarily. Sorry for the powerlevel but I work in web app development, and we use a CDN for hosting. When we do an update, it can take up to 5-10 minutes for the update to propagate to all the CDN endpoints. Sometimes we have an issue where some endpoints get stuck on the old version. When that happens, you can switch to a different browser and see the new version. CDN load balancing can be a really tricky thing.

Go to ddg, search for "kiwi farms"
See what pops up, then do the same, but in private/incognito mode.

For me it's shows up normally, but not in incognito. It's not 100% proof something fucky is going on, but it smells of bullshit.

Edit: ok the not running their own indexer gives them plausible deniability on nerfing kiwifarms, BUT the normal/incognito discrepancy still shits on their "we don't filter searches" horseshit.

I always thought it was weird they allegedly had all this traffic but were still sharing a small building with an ophthalmologist in a Pennyslvania town with less than 6,000 people.

I don't think you need a huge office if you're just gonna piggyback on someone else's results and tweak the algorithm a little to make it look like you're different (at least, that's how I assume DDG operates). It's actually pretty smart of them to save on operating costs and pocket the cash. What's not smart is succumbing to requests for censorship. They pretty much nixed what their supposed unique selling point is.

I think we're jumping to conclusions too fast. This may be all sorts of technical issues like some database items being discarded due to old age and the crawler not getting around to reindexing them, or all sorts of trouble with distributed database/CDNs not syncing up properly, just software and networking bugs in general.

I'm not ready to knee-jerk to the conclusion that a big search engine dropped their entire ethos and promise over KF. Give it a week and if the issue doesn't resolve itself, I'll happily join the "DDG bad" circlejerk but let's not dismiss the site straight away.

If anything, the fact that it works fine in some places and others not, for some users but others not, at random seems more like software fuckety than some intentional blacklisting. If it's that, we'll still be blacklisted a week or month from now. We'll see.

Could easily be a CDN or load-balancing issue on top of poorly synced up databases.. Not saying it is, just giving them the benefit of the doubt before raising pitchforks.

If I remove the '&t=ffab' token from the DDG URL I get KF as first result, otherwise no relevant results. Oddly, that only works if Safesearch is set to Moderate.

I updated my post to address that point. This thread's moving fast but I didn't want to risk the mortal Kiwi sin of double-posting.

DDG is usually what I use. I'm impressed they actually went and de-indexed the Farms.

Yeah, but right now you can still access Kiwi Farms. Go to the KF Wikipedia page. Still a link to KF.

Wonder what DuckDuckGo believes they are accomplishing.

yeah, bing and yahoo results are the same. doesn't seem to be just duckduckgo.

amazingly, google still has us at the top, like any fucking normal search engine ought.

No big loss. Ever since I lived in Russia, Яндекс has superseded Google and DDG in all my browsers. Fuck them, and fuck Brendan Eich.

This pisses me off. Places like ResetEra gets to get away with their shit like doxxing innocent people and getting people fired and this happens to this place.

This sucks.

Don't forget - harboring and defending disproportionate numbers of pedophiles.

I can't believe it was ddg of all. Nice knowing ya for four years ddg, I switched to startpage and their shittier IMO algorithm.
